I am in the process of having cataract surgery by Dr. Rothstein. I had my left eye surgery today. I wanted to write my review while the experience is still fresh, and depending on outcomes, this review may be revised later. The time leading up to surgery: 1. I talked to several folks who have had their cataract work done by Dr. Rothstein... all were uniformly positive. That had a lot to do with my decision to go to ECCNC. 2. The impression I get is that they do a lot of cataract surgery... and the pre opp is very similar for each patient and a bit of an assembly line process. This initially put me off a bit, as I am used to a great deal of personal attention at eye practitioners, and the eye exam is a precision thing, to get the correct prescription. I am a high myope (very near sighted) and have strong prescription glasses. I wanted my eye exam and prescription done by a staff doctor, and not a technician, and they agreed with my request. 3. After that, I met and talked with Dr. Rothstein (the surgeon). He also examined my eyes and we discussed the process. After that, scheduling. They do surgery on Tuesdays, and there is a preop regimen with various eye drops over 3 days prior to surgery. The surgery is done at Longs Peak Surgery Center (a UC Health facility, next to Longmont United). 4. My first surgery was today. The folks at UC Health were very professional, helpful, knowledgable, and made us feel very comfortable. The facility is very clean, and relatively new. My wife is an ICU Nurse at another hospital. She was able to stay with me the whole time, except for the surgery itself. Dr. Rothstein came in, we talked a bit before the procedure, he introduced himself to my wife, and also introduced the anesthesiologist. I was made very comfortable, and I got the impression that they and the staff knew what they were doing and had done this many, many times before. After the surgery (which took less than half an hour) I went home and slept until my post op appointment back at ECCNC. 5. At post op, my eye protection patch was removed and vision checked. Its a bit cloudy but it measured 20/40 in the left eye, that previous to surgery was at least a -10 high myope. So, I am happy. I have to continue a regimen of eye drops for the next two weeks... and I will not know the complete outcome for some time yet... but for today things look good. I have had to wear glasses since the 4th grade... so 20/40 looks pretty good to me now. Update 6/22/16: Right eye surgery this past Tuesday. I am now 20/30 in both eyes, without correction. I am told this will be correctable to 20/20. Summary: Good job, I am happy. Two thumbs up.

In June 2015, I developed an eye infection that required diagnosis and corrective action. When I contacted ECCNC (Eye Care Center of Northern Colorado) to set up an appointment I found the information/appointment desk personnel to be abrasive and curt. Furthermore, at my first appointment, I waited 45 minutes beyond the scheduled appointment time before being run through a series of unnecessary routines with several different staff people who each performed a different test. By the time I saw an ophthalmologist, Dr. Olijynk, 75 minutes had past. It gets worse. Olijynk spent about 5 minutes with me and could not provide an accurate diagnosis. I ended up having to return two more times to see two more doctors, Meyers (an oculoplastic and cosmetic surgeon) and Krone (comprehensive eye care provider), with the same wait times and redundant procedures occurring. (Of course, each procedure results in higher charges to the insurance company and customer). Each doctor prescribed something slightly different from the other - none of what was prescribed worked. Nevertheless, I paid the bills I was invoiced for. I then found a different doctor outside of ECCNC (Dr. Rex Eland, Berthoud, CO) who was able to provide an accurate diagnosis and corrective course of action in the first appointment. October 21, 2016, I received a bill from ECCNC specifying that another $92.51 was owed from the appointments in June and July of 2015, with an indication that previous billing attempts had been made - this was entirely inaccurate - all previous bills received had been paid on time. I immediately contacted ECCNC, October 24, and spoke with Daisy, in billing, who told me, "We will need to review your account and will send you a new statement." Surprise! November 11, 2016, I receive notice from a collection agency stating the creditor, ECCNC, has placed the past due amount for collection - the amount now due? $120.42. The very same day in the mail, I received an explanation of charges from ECCNC for my account - presumably the promised follow up from Daisy (no signature was provided). Needless to say, ECCNC is woefully incompetent in their operations, practices and procedures. I believe their operations should be audited by a third-party and I hope this information will spare other people from being subjected to the type of experiences I have endured.

I cant say enough good things about this group.Last night I went to the local ER because I had a sudden visual disturbance like a squid had injected black ink into my right eyeball. They consulted with Dr. Andrews because he was basically the only ophthalmologist on call that night in Longmont. Dr. Andrews told them to have me call his clinic the next AM and get an IMMEDIATE emergency appointment with one of their retinal specialists. I did call and they DID get me in within the hour even though I was a new patient. I was in and out in under two hours, being hustled through the various stations with almost no wait. I saw Dr. Benedict, who said I had a vitreous separation with bleeding but had no retinal tear. Necessary followups were scheduled on the spot because the probability of tear/detachment would be higher for a while. Also, they noticed my dry eyes and fully understood the negative impacts that both Sjogrens Syndrome and Lyme Disease (I have both) can have on vision and recommended I see one of their dry eye specialists. That alone blew me away because most doctors are clueless about Sjogrens Syndrome and Lyme Disease.

My wife took our one year old daughter in because she had something stuck in her eye that needed to be removed. They had to wait nearly two hours before being seen. The doctor (Dr. Rothstein) identified the problem and removed the item in less than 20 minutes (with the help of my wife). My wife was then told by the billings department that the total cost was $140. We paid in full at the time. Over two months later we get a bill for an additional $50. Turns our they actually charged us $270, however, because our insurance company refused to pay the whole bill (since it was clearly excessive) they agreed to accept $190 as payment in full. Now we are getting nasty collections letters from an outfit in Arizona. I respectfully asked the business to waive this additional fee since we were told over two months ago that we had paid in full. However, Dr. Rothstein refused to waive this $50 because he believes it was "fair" for him to bill what he did (he actually had his assistant contact me rather than taking the time to speak to the parents of one of his patients). You be the judge - I will never support this business again.
