I feel bad writing this review, but I felt really, really led-on and annoyed by these guys, and I hope they stop doing this to people. From the moment I called, I said that I was a student on a very tight budget. Literally my first question--before even asking for an appointment--was whether or not they would accept my insurance. The receptionist told me, "We have patients who have that insurance! Well go over the details in person during the free consultation. Why dont you come in tomorrow." Alright, sounds good. I go in, everyone is super nice. I ask again--first thing--about my insurance, what the rate is, etc., and they tell me not to worry about it right now. They do a bunch of x-rays and other tests and tell me to come back two days later. When I do, I ask again about insurance. The doctor told me wed talk about that last. She proceeds to tell me everything thats wrong with my spine, shows me my x-rays, and asks me about my schedule, since well need to meet three times a week. Once again, I tell her Im more worried about money than anything else. She puts it off again, and goes on for another several minutes about what a difference shell be able to make if she treats me. Finally she says, "Well, you have an HMO plan, and we dont accept that. Youll have to pay several thousand out of pocket." I tell her thats not possible--its four months rent, and I make very little money as a graduate student. She tells me they accept credit, and I say thats not an option for me right now. She replies (seriously), "So this isnt really a priority for you right now?" No, rent and food are a priority. Hence why I politely asked about my insurance coverage from the very first moment I called. Instead of being rude, I thank her for the time, but say Id rather find someone in town who accepts my insurance, to which she responds that other people in town wont be able to do as good a job as she would. I left their office feeling like I was being shamed into spending thousands of dollars I didnt have when she herself acknowledged that other people in town would accept my insurance with a $10 copay. Super, super unprofessional. This is why chiropractors get a bad rap for being duplicitous. When someone asks you directly and politely about insurance, answer candidly like any other respectable medical professional would. Dont drag them through a two-day sales pitch.

I cannot say enough positive things about Black & Gold Chiropractic! I am a nurse with a long history of back pain and injuries related to lifting patients. I have seen many chiropractors in Iowa, Colorado, and Michigan. What stands out the most about Jess and Jake is that they genuinely care and take the time to explain the plan of care and answer every question in detail. They do more than chiropractic adjustments too- they have you do stretches before and after adjustment and they create a rehab program for injury prevention, posture improvement, and strengthening! Jess also does acupuncture and they have a massage therapist. This is by far the most holistic care I have ever received! The staff here is also incredibly friendly and make you feel like you are part of the family. I appreciated that Morgan and Jessica got me in within an hour of injuring myself and were extremely accommodating to my needs. If I could give 10 stars I would!!!!

I was in pain for months before I found Black and Gold. I couldnt do what I loved anymore due to the aches, pains and tightness. I felt soreness throughout my entire body everyday. I also had chronic fatigue. Physical therapy didnt work, a family practitioner didnt work. I used every resource available to figure out what was happening to me, finally I found Dr. Jake and Dr. Jess. They did an x-ray and found I had 6 subluxations in my neck. I had poor posture for years. Poor sleeping, standing, sitting and extracurricular posture. I decided to dedicate myself to the pursuit of mindfulness. With the essential help and education that Jake and Jess provided me, I was able to make a full recovery. I went to see them for 3 months and I couldnt be more thankful. Remember- you get out what you put in. Apply yourself and embrace lifestyle changes. Your body wants to heal. Thank you Jake and Jess!!!!!

My husband has had chronic back pain for years. One of his good friends, Todd Melvin, who currently works as a chiropractor in Burlington but is moving to Arizona in December, gave him information as to how to find a good chiropractor. His advice and online research led my husband to Black and Gold. Black and Gold is a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Iowa City, and they are involved in the community in their personal and professional lives. He has been very happy with his experience there. He constantly says that everyone there is very professional and genuinely concerned with his well being and how he feels. We both highly recommend based on our experience!

Ive been to many different chiropractors, but Dr. Jess and Jake Young are by far the best I have ever been to. They are always accommodating of my crazy schedule, and put me back into shape when I need it the most. I also see Dr. Jess for acupuncture. Dr. Jess is amazing - she really knows what she is doing and will always go out of her way to explain what she is doing and why she is doing it. Jess is nice enough to always show me new things to try at home, homemade remedies, you name it. Now that I know Jess and Jake I will never see anyone else for my wellness needs. You can tell Dr. Jess and Jake truly care about their patients!

I havent seen a chiropractor for over 5 years until I decided to go to Black & Gold Chiropractic & Wellness. Dr. Jake and Dr. Jess both treat me. Dr.Jess treats me for migraines and for a frozen shoulder. I thought my shoulder was arthritis related, however, she adjusted it and now I can raise my arm over my head. I havent been able to do this for over 3 months. Through x-rays, Dr. Jake found that my lower neck was fusing together. He suggested routine adjustments as part of my schedule to keep my neck flexible. Dr. Jake and Dr.Jess are professional, considerate and courteous! Thanks for making me feel and move better!

I had terrible pain in my left shoulder due to excessive pressing exercises, but after a single session of acupuncture from Dr. Jess, my pain ceased. That same day, I was adjusted by Dr. Jake to help resolve a pain radiating from my sacroiliac joint. I instantly felt relief and was able to do things like sit upright in chairs and sleep on my stomach once again. Black and Gold Chiropractic is a professional, friendly and most importantly effective clinic who focuses on FIXING the problem , rather than just pain management.

If there was a 6th star, I would have given it to this place. Outstanding doctors who take you through a very thorough exam where they explain their plan to you on how they will improve your problems. The business is well run, clean, and the schedules are flexible to meet your needs. They utilize multiple techniques of the most up to date researched practices. I have made excellent progress since starting with them! Check it out!
