I got an appointment for my mom - who had a tooth ache. The staff were very nice (to begin with). Met with Dr. Strober - he seemed ok, not friendly like other Drs; he took an x-ray and couldnt see why the pain...and he said there was no need to pull the tooth. However he suggested a root canal. Since she didnt have dental insurance, one of his staff gave me a rate - $1670 BUT since my mom was above 60 she would get a 10% discount...My mom was leaving the country in 2 days we decided against doing the root canal. Meanwhile Dr. Strober was in a side room watching me discuss the rate with the lady and he walked over and I told him we didnt want to do it - Everything changed after that - he was really agitated and angry, so were his staff...he said the pain would be too much to handle on the flight and that he recommends she have the root canal. I said it was OK...if he could give her some pain medication that should work. He prescribed antibiotics (250mg for 5 days) and a pain medication (hydrocodone 7.5 (12 tabs, to be taken every 4-5 hrs). I specifically asked if there were any side effects - he said just drowsiness. Asked the pharmacist at CVS the same question- she said "drowsiness". I dropped my mom home and went to work (around 12.15pm). I got a phone call from my mom around 3 pm..she took one pill of the pain medication around 1.30 and by 2pm she was vomiting and dizzy...she was slurring while speaking and couldnt move. I immediately called the dentists office. The lady sounded normal - this is just a side effect of the pain medication, hydrocodone. I said I wanted to speak with Dr. Strober - she said he would call me back. I googled hydrocodone side effects and was appalled to read some of the side effects. I called the police in my town to check on my mom - Dr. Strober called me around that time - saying it was just the side effect and that I should consider getting the root canal!! Really? When she has to be taken to the emergency room for a medication you gave her? I told that was not my concern at that time and why he didnt tell us about the serious side effects - he said you should have received that from the pharmacy... The cop was home in a few mins and he called the ambulance since she her condition was really bad. It took me 45 mins to get home, they had already taken her to the emergency room…I spoke with many doctors in the emergency room and others (she was admitted for a day) based on her condition. They all agreed that she should not have been given hydrocodone, given she had never taken any opiate medication ever before. Here is an update - my mom got home safe, she went to see a family dentist 5 hrs after landing. The Dr said the antibiotics dose was too low - she had so much pus in her tooth that it wouldnt help. She removed all the pus and gave her strong antibiotics. Bottom line - stay away from Dr. Strober…he just wants to make $$ - and doesnt care about the well being of the patient.

I have been a loyal and satisfied customer of Gentle Dental Care since they opened their doors almost 30 years ago. Truth be told, I have never been a fan of dentist visits, but Dr. Hart and his staff have always made me feel so comfortable I have not seen another Dentist in 30 years! I even went ahead and made the move to Philadelphia about 8 years ago and I STILL drive the 2 hours north for my routine check ups and cleanings. The reason being is this, I had extremely poor dental care previous to seeing Dr. Hart, however, he eased my concerns and fixed me right up the very day I went to see him. He could see I was nervous and told me if it would make me feel better he could get the bulk of the work done that very day! Who knows if I would have gone back after hearing about all the work I needed, but Dr. Harts can do attitude, professional care, and his staffs pleasant demeanor made me feel confident enough to get things started. Dr. Hart was respectful of my time frame and my concerns and I could not be more pleased with the caliber of work he has completed. I have not had a single problem since he fixed those original problems and his staff is so friendly, when I arrive in the office for my general check ups it is like coming home again. I have always, and will always highly recommend Gentle Dental Care.

The office and appearance are great, and the quality of the work was superb, but I am skeptical about the judgement/integrity of the dentist I visited. I came in 9 years ago, and at first he ordered two fillings, and then some moments later, changed his mind and ordered two root canal treatments instead (which he spoke aloud to the assistant). Because it was expensive I only had one treatment done. Then I went to a different dentist, and they examined the other tooth - and found it did not need a root canal at all! I got a filling , and its been fine for 9 years, no pain no problem. If it was up to Gentle Dental, then that tooth would have gotten a root canal too . It made me question whether the other tooth needed a one at all. And a root canal is no small matter. Mine got infected (they sometimes do), and eventually had to be removed. Its now very expensive and frustrating , running several thousands total if you include the original root canal and now the current work. Strongly suggest getting a 2nd or 3rd opinion before getting serious work done.

Michael- Glad to hear that you were satisfied with your dental work until recently. Checking your chart, I see that you came in 2004, 12 years ago, had an exam, x rays and a filling. Four years later in 2008 you came back with a toothache and had the root canal performed. I agree with you that root canal is a serious treatment, and we prefer not to do them unless absolutely necessary. The focus of our practice is prevention. It is easier and cheaper to fill a cavity when it is small, than to wait until it gets deep and needs a root canal. With proper care, and regular 6 month cleanings, you should not need any more root canals. It is better to stay healthy, brush, floss, stay away from soda and sugar, and not need any dental treatment at all. You are always welcome to come back to our office. Dr Hart

I have been a patient of Dr. Strober of Gentle Dental Care for over 21 years. I began coming to this office after having trouble with the work performed on my teeth by my former dentist. With my former dentist, my fillings were constantly falling out, I had toothaches (a major one that ruined my Hawaii vacation), minor problems turned into major problems, etc. Dr. Strober has done an excellent job in restoring my teeth and I am happy to say that I can now concentrate on straightening them. Dr. Strober has started me with Invisalign and I am already seeing progress. I have recommended this office to my family and friends and they are all very pleased with Gentle Dental. I love Dr. Strober and his staff. Everyone is very pleasant and friendly and I highly recommend them!
