Well everybody I knew said it was going to be horrible. To me It wasnt. I went to the adolescent unit. I met a lot of people there. We treated each other like family. The moment I walked in the tv room, they all greeted me. The first days were kind of hard because I only thought of my friends at school. I heard stories that really shocked me because I never knew anyone that got raped or sexually abused. We all talked like we knew each other but in reality we didnt. Those people I met will go in my hearts for a long time. We all went into our different worlds but hopefully one day we are reunited. We would laugh. Even though we were all depressed in some way, we made each other happy. We all came from troubled lives and regrets but we didnt judge each other. When I was personally in there, I felt happy. I didnt feel sad or troubled. My mind was distract of everything that had put me there. Once I got out there, I realized that feeling wasnt always going to be there. To walk in a room of people and they made you feel like we known them forever. I dont know If Ill ever go back. The food wasnt that good but they still fed us. The TECS were nice but some had an attitude. It was really cold in there. In my experience It wasnt like the movies. We all bonded and joked around. We went outside for 30 minutes. Everybody favorite time was to go to school because we could call our moms and dads. We would color and just talk to each other. They did check up on us every 10- 15 minutes. Even If it was fun, it did teach me something and I havent felt lost or depressed ever since. We always look up to above but we never look down to the people with worse problems.

RIP Jovanny Carballo This place is responsible for the death of my friend Jovanny Carballo. This "hospital" convinced Jovannys mother that he needed Electric Shock in order to recover from depression. They said that it was the ONLY way. If she was to be a good mother she would make him undergo this brutal "treatment". After a month of convincing and badgering, Jovanny finally consented to receive ECT. However when he made it to the ECT operating room, he changed his mind and said that he did not want to go through with it (the place looked terrifying, he told me) at that point four men came and restrained him onto the ECT operating table and he got electric shocked. A few weeks later Jovanny shot himself in the head and left his entire family in devastation. I spoke with them and they still get tears in their eyes 1 year after this happened as if it happened yesterday. His mother doesnt understand what happened because all of the Psychiatrists said that ECT was the only way... I told her that she was not to blame, the problem is with the lack of informed consent and criminal acts by this so-called hospital.

The staff is very kind and patient. I was fortunate to have been there during the Holiday season and they had a huge party for all of the patients. I even got a gift from Santa Claus himself. Only reason why Im giving them 4/5 stars is because I felt that even though the psychiatrist is very wise and professional, her style is stern and in my fragile state of mind took it to heart. I wish she would have listen to me with the intent of understanding my situation rather than hearing me out to just to reply "No, youre staying an extra day." Ana was an angel! and Lazarito was hilarious and really helped me stay calm. Thank you Southern Winds ❤

The staff is rude in person and by phone it seems like if your not Cuban then they dont like you...the lady that gives you the paper to sign is really rude and doesnt give you time to read what your signing because she says that their to busy and dont have time. That makes you think of how do they have time for your kid and the help they need. One day my husband and I heard a staff say to a other worker that this place is full of crazy teens and that is because of the parents...! I honestly think that they should act more like professional and have more respect.

This hospital was absolutely phenomenal to my sister during the time she was hospitalized. The staff members are kind and caring and always willing to go above and beyond to make sure the parents have everything they need. The techs are hard working and the recreational therapist provide excellent group therapy! They even have pet therapy!!! It doesnt get much better than that. I recommend southern winds with my eyes closed.

My Husband was a patient at Southern Winds, I can say that the patient care was excellent. The Nurses and Doctors were caring and compassionate. The Therapist were excellent, case management was very helpful. The food was excellent. Overall the attention that we received from the staff was amazing. I would personally recommend this hospital to anyone that has a family member with mental health problems,

They tortured me, violated my civil, patient and human rights, censored me, Blackmailed, me assaulted and battered me, drugged me against my will and nearly killed me twice. If you have loved ones in either of these hospitals fight to get them out immediately!

Lazy and inconsiderate staff! Management has no leadership or clue what is going on. This hospital needs attention muy rapido!!! Poor patient care after I nearly died. Dirty unsanitary infectious diseased hospital that needs to be burned down to the ground.

It depends on what unit you end up on. I dont know how it is in the adolescent. In the senior unit all you can eat in the cafeteria. East unit trays. The staff is over worked an under paid. Theyre great. Dr.s sucks. Been a patient there over 15 years .

The staff here are so kind and thoughful. They made sure the continuity of care took place from the very beginning. They helped my family get through their crisis in the inpatient unit and outpatient unit.
