This Place Is The Most Horrible Psychiatric Ward I Have Ever Seen! It still gives me nightmares! I was there for 15 days and they did not know how to properly detox me. Its a prison in the shape of a building. Theres a nurses station where you get your wake me up meds, then a terrible breakfast. Take a fine shower by hitting a button every minute (prison shower). Have group in the main hall where there is a small Television in a sealed box as your main source of entertainment. You get a total of around 8 cigarette breaks split up between every 3 hours and they hand you One, you cant take two! You may get lucky and not puke for your lunch. The Doctor will come and visit you, not introduce himself and talk to you for about 2 minutes, your social worker literally runs so you cant catch her to talk to her. Majority of the time she cannot help you, only her supervisor can once you find out he exists. They are so understaffed there and so disorganized with outdated filing and paperwork the place should be condemned. They have an art group, therapy group, social work group, SOMETIMES. Other times, its the couch and the Television or go out in the day room and do crossword puzzles or draw! There is nothing to do in that place. And if you are getting sick and need a nurse 9 times out of ten you will be waiting a while before you get there attention and if there is a shift change and you need something, God help you, youll be waiting for about an hour. People fight, hit things, scream, carry on because these staff members, this facility, these doctors, case workers, social workers, anyone that works there do not care about anything! Some of them have more issues than the worst of the worst patients there and didnt even complete high school! Its the insane trying to help the insane. Dinner time is a blast. Once you reach status two by reading your autobiography you get to go upstairs to eat disgusting, wonderful food. The saddest thing in this facility, many people are homeless, have STDs, STIs, and are just looking for a place to stay, a halfway house, anything. But the case workers are mostly useless. They cant help 20+ patients. Theres 2 nurses and 2 nurses assistances. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE CONDEMNED! At all costs do not go here. If you do, find the head case worker! Immediately and get out! Sign a 48 form if you are there voluntarily. Get a transfer to any other facility. If you land in Unit 5 (Duel Diagnostic) pray that you can get transferred to Rehab unit or Detox Unit. Then at night, you get to take another shower, and meds! Medication that makes you so tired you feel like a zombie and goodnight! You have to create your own activities to not go insane here. God help us.

WOW! Amazing that there are so many negative reviews! I am not discrediting anybodys reviews b/c I cant, but keep in mind also, that sometimes the whole place can take the heat for one employee who "bsd" is way thru the interview. Whatever it is, I have chosen to return there 4 times, and it is a 4 hour drive for me, but it was for a reason. I still keep in touch with many people from my visits (still doing well, at that) and they had no problem with it. I found that the people who did have a problem with it usually came in with a terrible attitude and didnt want to be there at all and were looking for any excuse to leave. Lets be honest nobody is thrilled to be at these types of places, heh. I mean, I dont know any other adult in a facility who is thrilled to follow rules & guidelines while going thru the mental and physical withdrawal of drugs. I have been to 13 detoxs and a few other rehabs, for which Im not proud, of course...but this one stands out as "remarkable" ..no pun intended ;) - This place had the most comfortable detox protocol that Ive ever experienced, as well as some incredible staff members who truly do care and take time to talk to you. One of the staff, Ryan, even printed off some info for me on his personal time at home and brought it in for me the next day. Staff would go out of their way and make time to talk to me if I needed it, as well as the doctors... Every single place whether it be a hospital or a business office, is going to have staff members who dont want to be there and who should not be there - Ive seen it as well in treatment facilities. Its not justifiable, but it is reality . For me, I would highly recommend this place for a safe and closely monitored detox compared to many others that Ive been in various states and locations. I promise you that if you go to almost any other facility you will run into the exact.same.issues. Been there, done that, heard that. Whatever you decide to do, I hope that all works successfully out for you and/or your loved one, its so important for me to be in a healthy, understanding, and positive atmosphere during hard times. Im very sensitive to my surroundings and quite the critic. And I loved it...I would recommend anybody there for the Detox. I cannot speak on behalf of a patient beyond that unit. But dont let only those who have had negative experiences make or break your decision. Remember that most people who enjoy the place and have a pleasurable experience with healthy outcome sadly rarely take the time to tell you about it online...Thanks for your time, and good luck God bless!

parents, no matter what anyone tells you: do NOT allow your child to be sent here!! at age 14 i was sent to the child/adolescent psych unit at summit oaks and i have never encountered a worse facility in my life. from the first moment i walked in i could tell that the place was dirty and not very well maintained, but i tried not to let that scare me....after being there just a few hours, however, i realized the problems with this hospital went much deeper than that. the "counselors" could not have been any less helpful, they clearly hated their jobs and every single one of us kids. they get paid to help us recover, but all they did was terrify us into not being honest with them. they also sedate patients left and right, patients who were hysterical but who didnt necessarily need to be drugged immediately. there is a zero-tolerance policy at summit oaks when it comes to expressing anger/anxiety--how ironic is that? kids are there to get help, not get drugged as soon as they get upset. the staff were rude, sarcastic, and openly mean to anyone who asked for help. also, as i mentioned the place was filthy, and the day i left i had become so sick that i puked. oh and a few kids i knew there were signed out by their parents and hospitalized elsewhere because they feared for their childs safety at summit. i tell every single parent i know who has a child struggling with depression the same thing: avoid summit at all costs. this place will make your kid worse.
