This hospital is woefully understaffed and poorly run. My mother was there recently for hip surgery and she had an overall experience that started from bad and went to worse. While many of the nurses are very nice and good at their jobs, there are not nearly enough of them so wait times when a patient needs help is long to non-existent. It was not unusual for us to have to wait as much as 30 minutes for someone to show up when the call button was pushed. Many times when a nurse finally answered a call button, we were told "someone would be right back to help us" and we were then forgotten - most likely because the poor nurses had so much else to do that they didnt remember they were supposed to come back. My mother should have been put in an orthopedic ward following her surgery with orthopedic equipment (bed and chair) to help her recovery. Either Kimball doesnt have an orthopedic ward anymore or they elect not to use it and my mother was in a regular ward with a mixed bag assortment of patients - apparently in order to keep all patients together so the nurses dont have to be so spread out. She did not get all of the equipment she needed even though we repeatedly asked for it. The ward she was in was far from quiet - in fact, the patient in the room across from her was frankly frightening. He had schizophrenia and really should have been in a psychiatric ward - he was shrieking from morning till night, throwing things, climbing on his bed, walking barefoot up and down the halls - once with a leg wound, dripping blood on the floor. This continued for several days - he was never moved out. One of my mothers nurses was especially terrible - no compassion, very rough whenever she had to do anything such as insert an IV, very curt. My mother wanted to get her name but apparently the nurse was used to that - she wore her nametag backwards so her name could not be read and when we asked, none of the other people on the ward would tell us her name. I could go on - this hospital stay did at least provide us with family horror stories to tell around the fireplace for years to come. I know that medicine in this financially motivated day and age is neither as caring nor as compassionate as it was in times past but it would be nice if a hospital experience, which is already so frightening, painful, and uncomfortable, could somehow be made a little more bearable. I suppose the sad truth may be that Kimball is no worse than most of the hospitals in this country but frankly that doesnt make me feel much better when I have to watch a loved one in pain who is not getting the help and prompt attention she should be receiving.

My 89 year old father went to the ER on Monday 1/26/15 around 11:00AM. He was placed in bed #21. The diagnosis was an impacted bowel. He was in extreme pain and excreting. He does not have a history of this problem, it was unknown and unusual. The nurses were having trouble getting an IV line in, today (1/29/15), he is covered with black and blue marks. The treatment was to give him an enema. I felt he was treated roughly by the nurses, one even came back with a comment of "that is why men dont have babies." Monday was the day before the "big storm" and I felt that we were hustled out, to clear the ER. I would love a call back from the hospital...I am sure that I will not receive one.

Avoid at all cost. My loved one recently spent 5 days on the 4th floor of this hell hole.. Besides Nurse Denise & Nurse Stacie, they are the nastiest group of people. The place is filthy. They never washed her. Never changed the bed sheets.. It took over 30 min for a bed pan. If it came to late she would be lying in it for hours.. 4 tries to get a line in her and still couldnt. The WORST facility I have ever come across. I also pass the blame on Lindsay the social worker at Monmouth Medical Center, for a job poorly done. She told me this was my only option. It took 5 days but shes out of there now , NEVER EVER to return there..

i was afraid to go there after reading all these reviews. I got the best care here starting in the Emergency Room and then after being admitted. I was seen by Dr. Monastersky, a top notch board certified neurologist. I had to receive a spinal tap, which he administered with minimal discomfort. The hospital itself was immaculate and everyone.....including housekeeping, were over the top polite and efficient. This is not the old Paul Kimball hospital, its Monmouth Medical Southern Campus (Barnabas) and the change is more then evident.

Understaffed, filthy environment, horrible administration... Particularly the director of nursing which is an older fillipeno lady. The Aides were wonderful they just had no help and seemed as they were under a lot of pressure from higher authority. I would not recommend this facility. I took my grandmother out and my family and I brought her to Jersey shore medical center of meridian health. I loved meridian health. It is also on the 100 top places to work in NJ! Definitely try to avoid bringing your loved one to Monmouth south!

Filthy Disgusting scary this hospital does absolutely nothing to take care of the people who go there. Nurses have no idea how to take blood pressure they say you can take a blood pressure anywhere of the body. Its a joke my fiance is in healthcare and she was the patient I laughed and said alright baby take my blood pressure on my big toe see if it works. She laughed, and I laughed in anger and said why are you here.

I had to visit the ER Saturday night. None of the minor medical/urgent care places were open. Everyone was polite, the ER was clean and in order, and I was seen relatively quickly (the ER is never quick).

Not the best. Very slow. Very dirty. Lack of courtesy for their patients. Unless its an absolute emergency travel somewhere else.
