im a c5-7 quadriplegic since 1990.. this hospitals emergency room nurses attitudes were uniformly condescending and completely oblivious to the info id provide, during my only visit to their er...but im not going to rate their er... in fall of 2010, i had a stage 4 pressure ulcer [aka bed sore] on my hip bone and was put on a pressure pump/air bed treatment at my home, with daily visiting nurse service for much of this treatment, and bi-weekly appointments with a surgeon at the hospitals wound care center...initially, there was an immediate healing process of the wound but after a month of this, and a few badly changed pump hook-ups/dressings, the wound started to get much worse, so it didnt work... by may, i was told that my bone is infected and ill need elaborate surgery... i have strong and many reasons to believe that the failure to heal my sore, falls to the surgeon[s] who recommended course of treatments and even more so to SOME of the visiting nurses; however, a few WERE very good, knowleadgable and professional...... anyway, the 2 full time surgeons in their wound care center didnt even want to speak with me about attempting such a neccessary surgery unless id quit smoking..i tried my best even spent $300 on a treatment which many swore that cured them instantly, but to no avail..ive been a full time smoker since the age of 12 [im 45 as i type this] and barely can remember my life without a cigarette...yeah, im hopelessly addicted and hate that fact but it is what it is...i badly needed the surgery but the surgeons wouldnt budge...meanwhile the sore and the bone infection were both getting much worse... i was pretty much weeks away from getting sepsis and started to resign myself to the fact that ill likely be dead within a year or two, from the dreaded, painful later stage symptoms of sepsis... then, i was saved, almost literally, at the last moment by an excellent surgeon [and an excellent person] from morristown medical centers wound care unit...plus another doctor there who initially got my case to the surgeon and got me on an operating table within days of my first visit there, when i figured id ask for a second opinion ...since the englewoods surgeons didnt want anything to do wiith me anyway.... but thats another story and ill use it to rate the morristown medical center... i forgot to add that im a full time medicare/medicaid user since im unemployed for many years, therefore i had a very limited choice of facilities with specialists in advanced wound care who accept this form of insurance; most surgeons dont...however, the surgeon at the morristown facility would be my choice now, even if i was a billionaire..wish i could at least list his name but i dont believe thats allowed here...

Englewood has been a standard of quality and care for many year, my mom was treated there in 2003 and ot was great. Over the past few years it truly went downhill. Not sure what it is... management, hiring policies ... but the lack of care and professionalism is pretty obvious pretty much across ... 1) my wife gave birth in the hospital in Oct 2013, surgery was fine. Post surgery however, one of the nurses pulled her catheter in such a "friendly" way that she felt if for the next 4 months... 2) On feb 16, 2014 I went to the emergency room with my 5 year old, was running very high fever and has some caught for 5 days ... was a long weekend, so our pediatrician was not available. Spent 4 hrs there and went home with tylenol and moltrin. The next morning (fever was not going away) first thing went to our pediatrician, took her about 2 minutes to hear something in her lungs, X-Ray showed mild pneumonia... I was so pissed that I complained to the hospital, they called me back .. was very attentive and compassionate listeners ... apologized multiple times .. and did nothing - as a matter of fact billed me twice for this lousy service believe it or not.. 3) Overall finance is a nightmare. No transparency of what is covered, what is not when you get there.. . I have been receiving bills for 3 months from various doctor offices ... test labs... and they keep coming. You need an accountant to keep track of them ... I have paid some, received duplicates and a threat to send for collection... stay way from EMC if you can...

My in-patient and emergency room experiences at Englewood Hospital have been disasters. Their out-patient department is very friendly and efficient. Regarding in-patient, I was in for an overnight stay and about 2 in the morning, they moved a new patient into the room. They then spent a half hour asking the most mundane questions that could just as well have been asked out of the room. I wrote a letter to the hospital noting that they should take inpatient information at the nursing station after hours so other patients sleep was not disturbed and got a response that was essentially a brush off. I had to go to the emergency room on another occasion because of severe bronchitis which made breathing extremely difficult. I spent seven hours there dealing with an uncaring staff. It took a half hour to speak to the triage nurse despite the fact that my inability to breathe I considered a medical emergency. I spent seven hours in total which was shortened by the fact that my wife was with me and kept asking "what is next." I did not see a doctor until about six hours into the visit but instead was diagnosed and treated by lesser staff. At one point, a member of the staff said "we need a urine sample." They never came back for the sample. At checkout, the oxygen level in my blood was too low, so the attendant said breathe deeper. When that did not raise the oxygen level high enough, she gave me oxygen through my nose. That raised it high enough to meet their criteria for letting me go. I ran from the scene.

I had my second child here and the experience, from beginning to end, was fantastic. My son surprisingly came two weeks earlier than my scheduled C-section and Dr. Gor cut her evening with her family short in order to deliver him. The ambiance in Labor and Delivery was calm, focused and happy. After a terrible experience at a NYC hospital where I delivered my first child, I didnt know what to expect. There my arms were strapped down and I wasnt allowed to hold my son until hours later. At EHMC it was a completely different experience! I didnt feel like I missed out on anything by having a C-section. Once he was delivered and cleaned up, he was brought to me to hug. Everyone was so caring and great...it was very happy in the room! Once in my private room, I received GREAT treatment by a team of caring nurses, techs and staff. Everyone introduced themselves when they came in. Everyone, no matter their job, was VERY pleasant and helpful. Even the food was good! About a month and a half later, I had to take my baby in for a medical emergency...he needed a CAT scan and the techs were so good with him...and his wonderful pediatrician Dr. Daici too. Thankfully, he was OK and they set my mind at ease quickly. I really cant say enough good things about this hospital. If I could give it ten stars, I would. :)

This review is SOLELY regarding the billing department. I have been on hold for 22 minutes and 56 seconds and counting. I get the requisite "Please continue to hold; all agents are currently busy" spiel every 30 seconds or so. It is incredibly frustrating. They sent me two bills with two different patient numbers FOR THE SAME PERSON (my great-grandma in-law for whom i care and pay bills). I have paid them bills for months now yet these two are delinquent from August appointments!!!! So they threaten me with collection efforts and legal action over a measly 100 bucks that I could pay without blinking or thinking AND THEY MAKE ME WAIT 24 MINUTES AND 28 SECONDS AND COUNTING. HOW HARD IS IT TO PICK UP THE PHONE AND GET TWO BILLS PAID AND THE SIMPLE QUESTION OF "WHY IS MY GREAT-GRANDMA SEPARATED INTO TWO DIFFERENT PATIENT NUMBERS?"???? WHAT IS THE HOLD UP? ARE YOU GUYS UNDERSTAFFED BECAUSE I KNOW TONS OF PEOPLE WHO NEED JOBS. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND WHEN SOMEONE CALLS TO PAY A BILL OR INQUIRE ABOUT IT, HAVE ENOUGH PHONES AND PEOPLE TO NOT MAKE PEOPLE WAIT OVER 20 MINUTES ON A THURSDAY AFTERNOON. RIDICULOUS.
