Ive been to the hospital wayyy too many times to count. From the ER to the ICU, it is a very good hospital & now very modern. Most of the doctors and nurses are very nice and helpful theyve really stepped up their game now that its part of meridian. I wouldnt hesitant to go there except for truly life threatening conditions for example cancer. Im sure the treatment would be excellent, I would just pick somewhere that specialized in it. Same goes for certain surgeries yes, they are very competent, however would I get heart surgery there no probably not. For 95% of problems this is my go to hospital the Barnegat Manahawkin area is very fortunate to have such a good hospital near by. Im giving this hospital 4 stars because while they are always updating there is room for improvement. Like hiring more then one nurse practioner to run the ER fast tract department. Same goes with the actual ER more then the 2 doctors for 25 beds would be helpful. While its fairly rare I have waited on more then one occasion more the hour or two after getting a bed to see an actual DR besides waiting another hour or two in the waiting room. Yes, stuff happens but if theres a bad car accident or some other emergency, you can be left waiting in serious pain or distress to be scene. My other issue is billing this hospital will ruin your credit if you dont have insurance. Seeing a NPR not even a doctor plus xrays can easily cost $3,000. While if you actually had insurance the company would only spend a few hundred dollars. Prepare to be billed at least $1000 if your child is sick & your doctor is closed for the weekend. Go to Manahawkin Urgent care instead for less serious issues. The wait is usually less then 45 minutes and costs $100 give or take. SOMC keep up the good work Im only trying to give a fair & balanced review.

I had a absolutely horrible experience at this hospital over this past weekend. I went in for pancreatitis I had terrible stomach pain that was horrible that pain was beyond the 10 they treated me one day for this diagnosis after that one day I was in still so much pain and they didnt manage my pain at all . I only went here because community medical center I thought my doctor didnt go to that hospital for prior to my other incident community medical center really changed to Their staff is great there nurses are great their doctors are great there Care is great they sincerely care about your pain have badly u are suffering they try to keep you comfortable community out reach this hospital its hard to believe since community At one point was bad now its the opposite Southern Ocean medical center is a horrible hospital I suggest any body do not go to this hospital for any reason specially if its serious please!!! After the fact that I had five other people tell me their experience was hell at this hospital so if you are in dire need of help stay away from this hospital

I was in the pediatrics (Im 17) and I told the doctor I have scraping scapula. It flaird up and I was in a lot of pain. He gave me an X-ray and told me it was normal. I was aware this was going to happen because I am suppose to get a cat scan( due to problems I have not been able to) . & I told my doctor that. I have seen a specialist many times. So about 2 hours later he comes into the room and just changed my words up a little. Basically explaining that I have scraping scapula and what the condition was. ( after I told him what it was because he was clueless) being that I am 17 it may not seem like I know what Im talking about and what my condition is but I do know. And truthfully its almost as if he just googled it and then tried explaining it. I have never been more annoyed. Thank you soch for sending me home (still in pain) and not giving me the medical attention that I need. Oh also, he told me to see a specialist and get a second opinion as if everything I told him went in one ear and out the other.

Once again 3rd bad experience here. Took the wife and waited just over 2 hours and 4 people who checked in after her got taken in. We will go to Atlanta Care in the morning. this hospital was 10 times better before it was Meridian and thats not saying much. I rather drive 40 miles down to a real hospital. Anybody that has went up to the receptionist while we were there they asked when are they getting called back, the receptionist told each one that they were next. Plus I should listen to the people that work in the medical field and tell me to stay away from this Hospital thats pretty bad. Somebody needs to do something about this Hospital, especially the emergency room because they are definitely slacking and lacking. Im actually surprised how many good reviews its got thats a shock.

I have been to the SOMC ER and inpatient units on several occasions over the last 14 years. Ever since Meridian took over I have experienced a steady improvement in care. The doctors have been professional and thorough, the nurses have been attentive and courteous and the food has improved. I have been an inpatient for more than a week on occasion so I have gotten an in-depth look at several aspects of the hospital. This isnt the small town hospital it began as years ago. the change of name from Southern Ocean County Hospital to Southern Ocean Medical Center reflects a change in the range of services offered and the advancement in medical technology. This place is in the major leagues now.

My Mom collapsed in the ER Bathroom on October 9th, do to a heart attack caused be a a plaque burst in her heart. My Mom wad found with no pulse by Debi, the most amazing Woman & Nurse. Due to being found at a reasonable time frame the Doctors and Nurses were able to save my Mom, and she is without any long term damage. I cant say enough about this amazing hospital. The Doctors, Nurses and Staff are really incredible. This hospital doesnt just have Doctors and Nurses, they have Saints and Angels. After a little over a month in the Hospital I get to pick her up. Mom will make a full recovery and resume a normal life. Thanks to Somc I have my Mom. The Lowe Family From CCU.

I went into the SOMC emergency room with a broken ankle. There was a friendly greeter as well as the ER intake person, both took immediate care of me. No wait!! It was a Wednesday morning around 10 am and the ER was empty. I was immediately moved to a room and given pain meds, an X-ray and a consult. I was treated by a nurse practitioner, never saw the orthopedic doctor who read the X-ray but that didnt concern me. The longest wait was for the reading of the X-ray. Everyone was so wonderful; it was a terrific first experience with Southern Ocean.

Sent to ER after an ultrasound at an imaging center. Hospital did another ultrasound and contacted a urologist who I followed up with later. ER staff was attentive and sympathetic to my issue. I was deeply impressed by the friendliness of all the staff and was very comfortable in their care. My issue was not earthshaking nor life threatening in any way, merely considerable pain in a lower region. However, as stated, I was very impressed with the very high patient skills of the staff. If one has to go to the ER, I recommend this one highly.
