About 3 weeks ago I had a small, circular bald patch form on the left side of my head due to a lot of stress at work. I had 2 barbers tell me that it was Alopecia Areata and was quite normal for people in my profession. I then Googled it and it was text book Alopecia Areata, so I decided to go to the doctor to get a Cortisone shot to grow my hair back. I scheduled an appointment at Gilbert Center for Family Medicine on Tuesday June 6th and put it on my calendar after verifying the date while still on the phone. I showed up on the 6th and they advised that my appointment was on the 5th and had been cancelled due to a no show. This was my first red flag. They were able to reschedule me for the next day and I came in again on the 7th. The appointment was to get a Cortisone shot for Alopecia Areata. They charged me $75 for the appointment, which they said was beside my insurance, but the co-pay would be taken out of it. When I saw the doctor (Jeff) he advised that it wasn’t fungal or anything else, but he could not diagnose me with Alopecia Areata without a bunch of lab tests. This kind of boggled me because I knew for sure what it was and didn’t need a doctor to tell me. He then told me that he could treat it in house if he knew what it was, but I had to go to a dermatologist to make sure. $75 and an hour of my time to be told to go away empty handed. I scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist and they took one look at it and verified my assessment (without any tests at all) and gave me a shot. My hair has now grown back and all is well. Today I got another bill in the mail from Gilbert Center for Family Medicine in the amount of $22.10. I was surprised since they said my co-pay would be taken out of the $75 cash I gave them, but they had already lied to me twice, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised they did it a third time. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They lied to me 3 times, cost me $100 for absolutely nothing, and wasted my time. Thomas

Like other reviewers have complained, the customer service skill of the office staff has degraded over the past few years. First, the front desk tries to extract a co-pay after the patient has met their out-of-pocket maximum for the year. When you challenge them, the receptionist responds that "the payment will then serve as a credit for future visits." No, thats just another scam to nickel-and-dime customers. Dont fall for it! My family had already met our out-of-pocket maximum for the year in February because of MRIs and orthopedic surgery, and the staff at Gilbert Center for Family Medicine tried to charge me a co-pay for a recent visit that I made. I politely said "No, weve met our out-of-pocket maximum for the year" and they backed off. Gilbert Center for Family Medicine policy seems to discourage FMLA paperwork. Fill out their own forms and answer questions, pay a $50 non-refundable processing fee, provide your employers FMLA forms, wait 5-7 business days for the doctor to sign the forms. Thats frustrating and seems excessive, especially when I complete the paperwork and all the physician has to do is sign the forms. The office staff, and to some extent, the physicians arent good at getting back with the patient. This wasnt the case just couple of years ago when customer service was better and the staff would contact the patient with results. My experience lately has been that I need to contact the office to obtain results or doctor instructions following a visit because the office staff wont reach out to me. The partners of this medical practice really need to take a serious look at who is in charge of the administration of the business. Poor customer service by the office staff is indicative of poor management. Thats why you only get a one-star rating from me. Dont forget that customers can choose other medical providers...youre not the only game in town.

I was very sick with respiratory/sinus issues 2 months ago. I called into the office and was able to get in the same day. I was told this visit may take 2 hours to be seen by the doctor. I came in and was actually seen within 30 minutes. I was seen this day by Dr. Michelle Fulp. She has an excellent bedside manner. I told the nurse I normally pass out in a drs office from anxieties. Dr. Fulp and the staff was very good at working with me through my anxieties. She worked with me so well even after my visit to make sure I started to feel better. I also have kudos for Dr Mark Schlotterback whom my husband sees. He has always taken the time to answer all the questions I send in with my husband. He has a very good bedside manner. He spends as much time as Dan needs in order to have all of is concerns addressed. We went on vacation for the 4th of July last year when we realized my husband forgot his blood pressure meds. We called the after hours service and left a message. Dr. Schlotterback called us back within about 30 mins and had his RX called into the local pharmacy within an hour. When I went to the pharmacy to pick it up the RX we had another issue because my husband had just refilled this medication. We called back and again within 30 mins Dr. Schlotterback was on the phone with us and the pharmacy to get the situation resolved. If that isnt going above and beyond for your patient I dont know what is. I have been extremely impressed with both of these medical professionals. They also have late hours and Saturday appointments available. I have referred several friends to the office and they have also come away loving the office.

Worst experience ever!!! Do not recommend! I went in for a possible ear infection or thyroid issue, as my throat was so swollen I could not eat or drink water without severe pain. She diagnosed me with depression and anxiety, within minutes after asking a few questions. Then tells me I just need to calm down ,relax as I am doing this to myself. She explained to me that she would not prescribe anything for the stress because she does not want me to get addicted to opiates, starts talking to me about possible addictions I could have,if I have track marks. At this point I am in tears from the shock of the questions, her attitude and from the pain I was in. then realizing I would get no help from her . All I wanted was antibiotics for what I thought was an ear infection. I have never experienced such a horrible visit . I will never go back to this doctor , did not answer any of my concerns or even bother to check my hernia. Informed her I was also concerned about diabetes as it runs in both sides of my family, and I am experiencing similar symptoms, she brushed it off saying its just part of my anxiety issues. She treated me like a criminal as if I was shopping for drugs. And to top it off they charged me for my visit even though I have met my deductible for this year. they are a waste of time and money!! WORST DOCTOR EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD !!!
