I recently was admitted to Holy Cross Hospital for Laproscopic Surgery. First off let me start by saying the team in the OR ward was nothing short of wonderful. They were very caring, attentive and really did put me at ease. They knew exactly what to say to take away all the Pre Operative jitters. Also My surgeon Dr. Levine really cared and took his time to explain things in detail. He also listened to all my concerns. So I was Very happy with Dr. Levine, his team and the Operating Room Floor. However, the 5th floor recovery ward was AWEFUL. First off they did not give me my pain killers to about three hours after I was out of surgery. I kept asking and asking and all they kept saying was you are not in the system yet. To which I said, well that doesnt change the fact that I am still very much in pain. The first round of nurses I had I felt looked at me as if I was a chore and not a person. I kept getting very sick because I was denied pain meds and my whole abdomen was so sore. I also had a terrible migraine that I could not shake due to the delay in pain medication and all of the noise in the hallways. Mind you this was around midnight, and groups of hospital employees are yelling down the halls at each other and banging carts around. I finally had to say something to my nurse. How does anyone get any sleep around here ? Is this a playground or a recovery ward ? She then apologized and closed the room door for me. I also had to frequently remind them for things that I asked for such as Ice packs ect. and not receive them until the third time asking. Finally getting my pain meds hours later, I try to get my self comfortable only to constantly be disturbed by different vital checks, questions and tests. Oh and yes being told I HAVE to pee, when I had nothing to drink or eat for the past 2 days. I said I just want to sleep ! I will pee when I wake up. Well I never did get any sleep. The next morning going into early afternoon, I did have a rather pleasant nurse. Nurse Amanda. She was the only one of them that took any consideration to how I was feeling. When I asked her for something she made sure I had it as soon as possible. She also didnt keep waking me up every hour but let me sleep. It was because of her I was finally able to get comfortable enough and started to FINALLY fade off to sleep in the first place ! So things started looking up, when I was rudely woken up by this LOUD, Obnoxious women who identified her self as Dr. Levines assistant or whatever. Literally talking to me as if I was slow and hard of hearing. I explained to her I had a terrible migraine since last night that I was trying to get rid of but once again was so rudely disturbed. Rather than lower her Booming voice she persisted to so "YUP ! THERES NO REST IN THE HOSPITAL!" Which I found funny since they have signs all over saying "Silence please , rest is key to recovery" Needless to say it was the very last straw. I demanded my release papers. Even said get this IV out of me before I rip it out. I was so infuriated by such a display of inconsiderate stupidity I would not have stayed another night if they paid me to. So that was my full experience at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft Lauderdale. Wonderful OR staff, Great Surgeon. Terrible Recovery ward. Hope this helped.

Simply beyond my comprehension that after my emergency appendectomy, not a single one of the 10+ physicians who came to give me post-surgical consultation had even the slightest clue about why I was even in the hospital. Each one of them came in with paper and a pencil, and began asking me introductory questions, such as, "so, what brought you in here?" or "where is the pain?" The best one was "so, do you have any family history?" Since appendicitis is not hereditary, I inquired, "of what?" and he responded "oh, you know, anything, cancer, heart disease..." I actually had to institute a firm policy of asking each doctor who came into my recovery room whether they could tell me if I still had my appendix or not, and then tell them that if they couldnt answer that question, that they simply could not give me any further medical advice at this time. Not one single physician passed the test. And, by the way, these visits were the only chance they gave me to get any information on how my surgery went or to ask questions about the procedure. This was particularly terrifying, since I had just flown into FL for a work trip earlier that day, had no family or friends in the area, had ended up at an unknown hospital because I was forced to GPS the closest emergency room, was rushed up to surgery (Id never even been under anesthesia before), and then given zero information about what was going on when I woke up. To be in a recovery room and see that your hospital gown has an obvious circle of blood expanding over your incision site, but not a single doctor seems to have access to your chart/basic information, let alone show enough concern to come over and check the bandaging, and the surgeon cant be bothered to come and check in or discuss your options with you, is just completely unacceptable. Dont go to this hospital if you have any interest in being involved in, or even aware of, the decisions being made about your healthcare/options available to you as a patient. But if youd prefer to be discharged after surgery with a generic form telling you the basics for any patient who leaves the hospital, like "call 911 if you have signs of a stroke or heart attack," and "If you were given medication, take it as instructed," etc., with only a penciled in note saying that "showering is OK," then this is the place for you!

I was an International patient of Holy Cross Hospital in February 2016 and my family and I had an excellent experience. We decided on Holy Cross Hospital because they advertised family oriented care we wanted our older son to be a part of the experience when his brother was born. Our first contact was Adriana at International Patient services- she was very friendly and really went above and beyond to help us with all of our arrangements. We were assigned to Dr Calvos clinic and both she and her nurse Wendy were fabulous. When we arrived in Ft. Lauderdale to prepare for the birth of our baby, we dealt with Tara for payments etc- she was such a lovely lady and very professional. Then we ended up at the emergency room at 11:30pm- I was dealt with immediately and the staff was very very efficient. We were taken up to the Labour and Delivery ward where we met Nurse Desiree- she was so great at her job and helped us calm down in a very anxious situation. When it was decided that we were going to do an emergency C- section the staff at the Labour and Delivery ward watched our sleeping son so my husband could go into the theatre with me (we cant thank them enough for that). In the theatre the aneasthiologist was so reassuring that I forgot all about my fear of having numb legs. Dr. Adeboyejo did the C-section and she was amazing. When we were moved to the maternity ward we met Nursing Technician Esther who was was such a wonderful person- she actually wrote my older sons name as "big brother" on the board in the room with his baby brothers name and that meant the world to him. Then we met Nurse Patricia and later on Nurse Shelly- they really and truely were great at their jobs- they were very attentive and offered so much assistance and words of encouragement with breast feeding and I will always be grateful. We also met Dr Neustater- our sons Pediatrician- a wonderful doctor with lots of spunk and we had all the confidence in her. The room service food was great and we even got a birthday cake for baby!!! Our overall experience at Holy Cross Hospital was really and truely excellent.
