THEY ABUSE YOUR ANIMALS!!!! STAY AWAY!!!! I took my cats, Maci and Frank to be groomed on March 27,2014. IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Unlike Frank, Macis condition was fine after her visit, but was very poorly groomed. There were track marks from the clipper all over her body and he hair is not shaved and her coat is covered in dandruff. Her legs were not groomed at all. Franks cut was not how I instructed to be done whatsoever. I requested to have his body, neck and feet shaved and to have his tail and face trimmed. There is hair on his feet, his body was shaved way too close to his skin and his tail was shaved fully, but with large patches of hair left around the base or his tail and rectum. THAT IS JUST PETTY PART OF IT... The ALARMING part is that Frank had 1-2 inch lacerations all over his body (mostly surrounding his rectum). This is horrifying! The cuts were seeping and have now permanently scarred him. Also, a female associate called to tell me that he was difficult to cut so they had to sedate him fully. Frank has had been sedated before for grooming and the sedatives had worn off through the night, but it seemed that Frank was over sedated because he was immobile. He had had very low body temperature, couldnt stand and was defecating on himself. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I reached out to the vet office immediately, with no answer via phone so I sent an email with the disturbing photos attached, informing ABC that I was taking him to another vet to be seen and that I wanted a refund. This was their response: Dear Ms. Kowallski, (They didnt even properly spell my name right. So unprofessional.) First Im deeply concerned about the current health of Frankie and you should immediately bring him for us to access his state of health from his sedation, which will be given to your free of charge. Outside of that we deeply apologies that you are not happy with the grooming services Frankie and Maci received but to our understanding we followed your instructions as we understood them. Its unfortunate that you dont think you should have to pay of any of the services that was rendered but we will leave that up to the credit company. Sincerely, Xiomara ABC Animal Hospital The ABUSE and TORTURE of Frank cost $1,031. Frank had to stay at a credible animal hospital for 2 days to have his health monitored. The lacerations were seeping and infected from their dirty clipper. That vet bill cost me $1,700, but was worth every penny to get him back to good health. The audacity of ABC not refunding me is sickening. Why should I pay for "services" that my cats didnt receive? More importantly, WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR YOU TO TORTURE MY POOR ANIMAL??? I disputed the charge with my credit card company and the disputed went on for months because of ABCs lack of response to me or my CC company. When ABC finally contacted my CC company, they lied in the dispute letter and forwarded an altered invoice!!!! That is criminal!!!! When I forwarded the real invoice to my CC company, they unfortunately couldnt get involved because it was clearly a case of malpractice and suggested I hire a lawyer. I have now solicited a lawyer to sue their negligent practice is the next step if they dont remedy this ASAP.... ABC A-HOLES, I am still waiting for this refund!!!!!!!! I hope ABC vet office gets shut down. For the wellness of your animals, DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. EVER.

I have been using Dr. Tufaro for 16 years now. I have followed him from his first clinic on 4th Street and Avenue B to 14th Street between Avenues A and B to his new location on Avenue A and 12th Street, and I wont use another vet as long as I have access to him. He loves my cats, and treats them accordingly. He does stuff I have never seen another vet do - he puts my cats down on the floor and watches to see how they walk, he sniffs them to see if he can detect any odors that might signal something going wrong, things like that. Yes, the tests he runs are expensive, but when it comes to medicine, be it for man or beast, what isnt? These are my beloved companions, and I will spend what it takes to keep them healthy for as long as possible. (Anyone complaining about his prices, go to the Animal Medical Center if you really want your wallet gasping and left for dead, and the tests they suggest, well, I often got the feeling it was more about their bottom line than it was about my kitty.) Dr. Tufaro is also a kind man - he has always been willing, when it comes time to send my companions over the Rainbow Bridge, to come to my house after working all day and free them from their pain in the surroundings they know and are comfortable in, with me and their other buddies there to say goodbye. Before I found him, I asked another vet to do this, who refused, wanting me to subject my already sick cat to the stress of being shoved into a carrier, taken to "that" place, and put to sleep on a cold metal table. (And lets not even talk about the doctor at another well-known East Village vet who came into the exam room when one of my cat had pneumonia, stayed about 10 feet from the table, diagnosed him without so much as touching him, and then wanted to charge me $75 for the process - and this was decades ago.) Look, there is no perfection in the world. Sometimes I have to wait longer than I would like, but that holds true for my doctors as well. Thats just the way the world is these days. But there is no one else in this city that I would rather trust my kittehs to than Dr. Tufaro and his caring staff, who never cease to make a fuss over my furbabies when I bring them in. Thanks to them all.

We have had to bring our cockapoo in twice to ABC Animal Hospital for the same back pain issue amounting to over $600 this year. The first visit with Dr. Tufaro was fine, if not pricey (the reviews saying they really try to milk you for anything they can are accurate). However at both visits, I inquired about getting my dog her necessary vaccines since I was paying for an exam fee anyway. The doctor both times said to come back another time, there wouldnt be an exam fee, just the cost of the vaccinations since she was just there. So 2 weeks after our most recent $400 vet visit I made an appointment for my dog to get her vaccinations, and asked the person on the phone to confirm that we would in fact not have to pay a $70 exam fee. They told me they would call me back that day, which never happened. After calling and again being told I would get a call back, I pushed my appointment back a few days. An HOUR before the appointment (which had been scheduled nearly a week before) I get a call that "the doctor doesnt remember telling you you dont have to pay for the exam fee and since he didnt write it down he will have to charge you it." .... Because of the staff incompetence we have to pay more out of pocket for these vaccinations? I then spoke to the office manager who told me I was being very hurtful and that she doesnt get paid to speak to me on the phone and a ton of other illogical comments and insisted that it was not an exam fee but rather a $55 "recheck exam fee" that is charged, and that this was different than an exam fee because it costs $15 less. Will not be returning, this place REALLY tries to screw you.
