I went to see Dr. Chi Shum a few times. Initial impression was good. Efficient and nice but soon I found issues with him and the office and will not go back there. a) the office put through multiple charges on each of my visits! First time i thought it was a mistake but it happened a few times and it just makes you wonder if they are doing it intentionally b) either him or the lab had a very important test result done wrong for me. Now understand the tests are not accurate. which is why i went for a re-test. After the re-test, rather than admitting they or him made a mistake, he simply kept silent and stopped responding to me (and i tried at least five times within 3 weeks). I went through two other doctors and two other different labs. Both test results were negative and I finally found comfort but im extremely disappointed at the way he dealt with this.

This is the first time in my medical history, visiting a physician that is so unprofessional. During my entire consultation, Dr. Shum turned to his computer and responded to emails -- this happened twice, separately. I asked questions regarding the medication and he did not even look at me while responding -- because he was answering emails. This is not about rudeness. As other reviewers here have commented - he seems patient with a nice attitude. My review highlights his lack of professionalism. Needless to say, he was not able to distinguish/explain the medications properly due to his lack of interest in his patients needs. I have decided not to take the medication he prescribed since he did not seem interested in providing the patient with the appropriate information. How can I trust a doctor who does not genuinely care about his patients?

Dr. Shum is a great doctor and a wonderful person. He has expert knowledge of all medical issues as well as a marvelous bedside manner. He was my primary care doctor a while ago. I changed doctors because of location (I wanted a doctor closer to home in Queens). What a mistake. My Queens doctor was a liar and cheat. It was all about money and how much more she could get. Needless to say, I returned to Dr. Shum who remembered me and my medical issues and provided me with his expert medical advise as well as a compassionate understanding of what I can or should do. I lost 10 years without Dr. Shum and now that I am back with him I feel better, happier and safe knowing thst I can rely on Dr. Shum at all times. I will never leave him again. Thank you Dr. Shum.

Dr. Shum is an extremely thorough, attentive and mild mannered (ie, excellent bed side manners) PCP. He also replies to my emails in a prompt manner. I see some of the other reviews have complained about this. If it was your email that he promptly replied to I bet you would be fine with that. Primary Care Physicians are probably the hardest working physicians out there. These days they have to "do more with less" so to speak. Dr. Sum in my opinion has risen to this challenge with flying colors. I have recommended Dr. Shum to ALL my family and friends and those that have seen him have all loved the services he provides and the manner in which he provides them.

Ive been seeing Dr. Shum for over 8 years. The service I received has been outstanding. His diagnosis have always been pin point accurate. I could never believe a review that says he was rude. Totally false! I now live in Staten Island and I still go to Dr. Shum. I couldnt see myself going to anyone else. I would recommend him to anyone. Even when i dont make an appointment, Ive never waited more than 15-20 minutes, he always finds time to squeeze me in. When I do make an appt., I have never waited more than 5 minutes, which is unheard of with other doctors. If there was 6 stars, i would give it to him.

Dr Shum is always friendly and attentive. Even when he is fully booked, he has made time for me as a walk in. His attitude, communications ability and general patience are all excellent, and I feel comfortable getting his advice on anything. His support staff are excellent, friendly and professional. Dr Shum always helps me with even the most minor of concern or issue, and will even send me more information on requested topics via email. I have recommended him to friends and colleagues, all of whom have had the same positive experience. Chris B

I rely on Dr Shum for almost every medical issue I have. Hes always extremely honest and pleasant to deal with. Very friendly guy. The wait is also usually very short (under 10 mins) and Im often able to get an appointment the same day even though he is usually pretty busy. And if I need to see him and there are no other patients available, they will let me come in on a walk-in basis. Always very friendly and accommodating there. I have already recommended several friends to him and would recommend anyone else as well.

I have been going to Dr. Shum for over 4 years and have had a wonderful patient experience. He is very thorough when he runs tests during your yearly physical. He not only tests for cholesterol, diabetes, etc., but also looks for vitamin deficiencies. Although he does prescribe drugs as necessary, he does so with caution - gently suggesting that diet and exercise may benefit more than a drug. His network of referrals are also top notch. I have sent several friends to Dr. Shum and they each had a good experience.

The best doctor I have ever had. Very pleasant bedside manner, actually listens to my concerns and addresses them immediately. I was very ill when I first came to see him, now each day i get better. Communication with him is effortless and he always responds in a timely manner. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Never waited more than ten minutes to see him and have his undivided attention during visits. I would recommend him to everyone.

Dr Chi Shum is a true professional. He is effective and efficient. He also has colleagues that are great too. I have emailed Dr Shum on a Saturday and he responded to me within a few hours. I have never known of any Dr that does that. Many Dr use a answering service. I no longer live in Ny but I continue to see Dr Shum because he cares about his patients. I will also recommend him to anyone who needs a professional Dr.

Hes been my Dr. for years and always been on point. He spends as much time as he/you need to. After reading the occasional unfavorable review, his detractors appear to have a point that he sometimes seems to be reading emails or doing something on the screen while simultaneously speaking and listening to you, but my understanding is that hes making his notes pertaining to your condition(s).

Dr. Shum is the best doctor in NYC, since the first day I visited him and I explained my health issues he tried to find out what was the reason and the next visit he got the results that I was looking for years that no other doctor would tell me. I have to say thank you Dr. Shum for being so kind and helping me with my health problems. Ill always go to you for help!
