I have never had such a pleasant experience at a dentist office in my 33 years of going to them as I had at Alafaya Family Dentistry. The staff and the doctor were friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable, about not only dentistry, but collateral issues within the body that could be affected by poor dental care. The list is too long to detail every good thing I experience, so I will only choose a few. First, when I called I did not have my dental card with me. That was not a problem, however, because the administrative staff called my dental insurance company for me and confirmed that I had insurance and also confirmed the type of plan I have (they did this not knowing me, without knowing if I would be a patient there and with a friendly disposition). When I arrived for my appointment, the waiting room was clean with a large television, recent magazines available for perusing and a kuerig coffee maker with several different kinds of coffee to choose from. As I was called by the assistant, Char, into the dental area I was told that we would be doing an introduction conversation with the dentist BEFORE I would be sitting in the examination chair. My mind was blown. I thought, “They want to talk with me first? Aren’t they going to ask me questions as they have dental instruments in my mouth and while they are working on my teeth where it’s difficult to answer their questions???” During the introduction, not only did we discuss my dental history, Dr. Schmidt asked about my family and my job. She then asked if I would like to see a short presentation on common dental problems and how to avoid them. At that point I was hooked, so I said “Yes!” Turns out, the presentation was a simple educational overview of how our teeth can float, drop and drift. It was extremely helpful for me to have a refresher on dental issues and to see pictures and explanations in order to make decisions on my own dental care. Once the examination began, they took x-rays, dental impressions, and digital photos of my mouth. When Dr. Schmidt began examining my teeth, she let me watch, so I could see the issues she discovered, as she discovered then. It was like an educational guided tour of the mouth! Even better, I did not feel guilt when Dr. Schmidt discussed my dental issues, which I had so often felt in the past. When the examination was finished, Char gave me a refresher training on how to brush and floss my teeth. Then, Char gave me a courtesy gift of the type of brush, floss and toothpaste they recommend using. Lastly, Dr. Schmidt asked that I return for a consult, so we could review a treatment plan and what my insurance benefits would cover. I am an attorney with a busy court schedule, and generally I would baulk at having to return for a consult, but with Dr. Schmidt, I was more than happy to return because I realized that it was in my best interest to meet with her and commit to a treatment plan. Plus, she’s just so darn nice, it would be impossible to dread an appointment with her! All in all, I would recommend Alafaya Family Dentistry to anyone and am so happy that I have found such a wonderful office near me that is exceptional at what they do and clearly loves the work they are doing. Big thanks!

I had some Mercury fillings that were very old and needed to be replaced desperately. I had been putting it off because just the thought of having it done was so stressful to me. I was very afraid that the teeth would fracture from the drilling since the fillings went so deep. The old fillings had been done by an unlicensed dentist when I was a child. Unfortunately, my parents were very poor and they thought they were doing the right thing for me at the time. Since he was unlicensed, all of the dental work was done without anesthesia. It was torture. Dr. Ross was wonderful!! He was very reassuring and made me feel like it would all be okay. He did all the work on the same day and created two crowns for me right there in the office!! The best part was that I didnt have to have a root canal done. Within a couple of hours, I walked out with two beautiful new teeth!! I am so please with the outcome that I have decided to finally replace all of the old Mercury fillings that I done when I was a child. I am no longer terrified at the thought of having my fillings replaced. I must also mention that all of his staff is very professional and extremely friendly. Thanks to Dr. Ross and his marvelous team, I couldnt have asked for a better experience.

Ive never had such an incredible experience in a dental office. I play high impact and highly physical sports. I have had several oral surgeries and expected some discomfort. To my surprise, Doc used a simple yet effective way to alleviate any and all possible discomfort from the needle to numb my mouth. I am not a fan of pain, however I never felt the needle. I NEVER FELT THE NEEDLE! I was braced and ready for the usual slightly painful first injection, anticipating to cringe, jump and go intensely warm and sweaty. It never happened! If you are fearful or concerned w pain, discomfort or anxiety due to dental work, then going anywhere else would be your biggest mistake. Not to mention that Margaret Ann at the front desk was sooo kind, knowledgeable and knew something individual/personal/unique with all return visiting patients. That was impressive. Then the dental assistant Cha was informative and friendly. Not once did I have to be concerned with what was going on. She even communicated any time she would leave my side even for a second. Empathy, compassion and bedside manners cannot be taught or expected. This office genuinely cares about you. Dont go anywhere else or youll be sorry.

I recently had a failure in my 25 year old permanent bridge. Dr. Ross explained options to me and I decided on implants. Dr. Ross is a consummate professional and perfectionist. The process was by steps and took a little longer than I would have liked but the end result is outstanding. I did some research and found out Dr. Ross is a highly rated implant provider. I had seen ads touting getting your implants all in one day and then researched the failure rates for taking these shortcuts. That left no doubt in my mind about having it done the right way and I am thankful to Dr. Ross for doing it that way and for the extremely satisfying result. If I were to need any further implants (and I hope I do not) or any other dental needs, Dr. Ross would be my choice. BTW, his chair side manner and that of his staff is super and makes a dentist visit much more pleasant.

My family and I have been patients at Alafaya Family Dentistry since 2012. We have had simple procedures such as cleanings and more involved procedures including crowns, tooth extraction, implants and dentures. Dr. Ross and Dr. Schmitt are truly the best in their profession, and their entire staff are extremely friendly, professional and caring. Lori has been my dental hygienist since my first appointment, and one of the things I appreciate about this dental office is the consistency in office personnel and procedures. The entire staff takes the time to explain dental procedures, financial arrangements, and everyone who works there---from reception to hygienist to dentist---takes the time to get to know the patients on a personal level. I highly recommend Alafaya Family Dentistry.
