(please see my update below) Though the work I had done here was good, I was completely misled to believe they were in network with my insurance, only to find out over $4,000 out of my pocket later, that they were in fact not in network or contract with my insurance. This is always the first question I ask when I make an appointment to go somewhere, otherwise it defeats the purpose of even having the insurance in the first place - in my mind at least. I was told they did take my insurance, so I feel completely taken advantage of and lied to. Not only that, once I finally figured this all out, after they were going to charge me $409 for a cleaning they said I needed, only to call another dentist to verify this was correct, was I told that it was completely covered 100% by my insurance!! Also, once I talked to my insurance company to verify all of this with them, they told me, as well as the other dentist office, how ridiculously expensive the work I had done at Creating Smiles was compared to other places. So I feel like I let other dental work I needed go by the wayside because I was spending so much on getting a root canal and crowns that cost so much I thought I couldnt afford to get the work done that I needed. So not only was I screwed out of at least $2,000 I didnt need to spend, now Im super behind on other dental work Ive needed but waited on because I didnt think it was covered. When in fact, it was! I regret not having double checked their word, but I also think its poor of them to have knowingly let me believe they were taking my insurance. I will not be going back obviously, and would warn you to call your own insurance company to verify anything they tell or charge you if you go here. I work so hard and my husband works so hard and so many hours to make the money that we do to provide for our children, only to have wasted it because of their dishonesty, and disregard for me as a patient is just so sad and upsetting to me. **UPDATED** After I posted my review, they called me about it, said they never told me they were in my insurance, and that there was nothing then that they could do to work with me on the amount i had to spend there. Then told me I needed to pay $30 to have my records sent to a new dentist. I asked for that fee to be waived seeing as i had spent so much there. They said they could probably waive the fee if I took down my review! I at the time, said I could probably do that. The following week my records still hadnt been sent, so i called, and they said they wouldnt send them until they saw that the review was taken down. I was kind of taken aback. I thought, well maybe i will just pay the $30, its not the money really, but more the principal at this point. But then I decided I didnt trust them to actually give me my records anyway if they knew I wasnt taking my review down. I made this google account specifically to review this experience. I have never gone around reviewing businesses or ever having an issue with any other business quite like this one. I feel they were so worried about their image that they just wanted any negative feedback hidden from others. Come to think of it, they even want people to give them good reviews on here or facebook for a free whitening tray, so i would have a hard time believing how legit their good reviews are because they are getting something in return for it. Beware if you take your business here, their bottom line is $$. Look around on various review websites, you will find others with experiences the same as mine, I just wish I had seen those before i went there.

My issue with Dr. Kapers was quite a long time ago but since this page now exist, I thought I would go ahead and share my story. I had been dealing with an issue with a crown/root canal from August 2012 to April 2013. After it taking months to complete the root canal due to Dr. Kapers cancelling, etc. the crown kept coming off. Instead of telling me that there was a bigger problem, Dr. Kapers continued to "try" to put the crown back on every time it came off and of course charged me every time. I moved to Indianapolis and went to a former dentist to find out that the $800 crown didnt fit and that there was a bigger problem. I then was referred to a Periodontist and found out that I needed a crown lengthening. It is so frustrating that all of this could have been avoided had I been told that from the beginning. I hope that this review helps someone. I was out a lot of money because of this. I would not go to Dr. Kapers again if my life depended on it.

I have had only good experiences with Dr. Scott Kapers and all of his staff. They are very warm and compassionate. He is the first dentist Ive been to in years that is really personable and really cares about your comfort and having a good dental experience. And believe me, I have been searching and trying other dental offices. I am also happy with their approach to finances, they will try to work with you the best that they can. The last office that I went to was very cold regarding finances, they would not do any changes to their plan until their financial person came and sat with you while you were in the dental chair, waiting to be worked on. I have good credit and I found this very insulting. Anyway, I am happy in all aspects at Creating Smiles. As with most people, I dont enjoy having dental work done, so I appreciate anything that will make it a better experience. I would recommend Dr. Kapers to anyone.

I went in for a couple missing fillings and felt like I got robbed. I have crappy insurance that only covers a $1000 per year. After seeing them I am unable to afford to get any work done on my teeth at all this year. They used up most of my allowance on overpriced x-rays, tapping on my teeth, and a temporary filling that fell out in less than a week. When trying to set up appointments for the suggested root canal and three crowns they suggested they also informed me they need to be paid in full at those appointments, no payment arrangements. Which there was no way I could afford (especially after they just used up all my insurance money). Then when I asked how much just a cleaning would be they couldnt give me a price because they werent sure how much cleaning I would need even though I had not even left the office yet after just being seen. Needless to say I will not be returning there. What a disappointment!

After not been to the dentist for decades due to fear placed because of experiences as a child, I was prompted to find a dentist due to a dental emergency. I found a great review about Creating Smiles which gave me the confidence to at least call and make an appointment. The stress and anxiety I had about going for the first time was more than anything I have ever experienced. From the moment I first walked in the staff at Creating Smiles did not judge me, made me feel comfortable, safe and held my hand every step of the way. Im getting dental implants and it is a long process, however, the staff has been so patient and encouraging to me every step of the way. I even made a new friend when I finally got to meet the person whose review gave me the courage to take the first step! Thank you Creating Smiles for making a very scary process for me not so scary! You all are fantastic!
