My experience with the VNA hospice care will leave me heartbroken for the rest of my life. I made it very clear that my beloved parents death was not to be hastened with any drugs, etc. I made it very clear that I wanted my parent to take their regular meds. The VNA - before I hired them - assured me of this. Further, the VNA told me that it would send my parents medications. But it mislead me. What it sent was narcotics - opioids. I did not know this; they did not tell me in advance. When I opened the little white box I was dumbfounded. Where are my parents meds? Then the hospice nurse visits. The very first thing the hospice nurse did when she got to our home was to open the box of narcotics, walk up to my parent with a syringe and lean toward my parent and try to give it to them. My parent said "NO." In short, the hospice nurse was there to drug up my beloved parent even though they were not complaining of pain. I have that upsetting moment frozen in my mind forever. Oh, and there are more upsetting experiences with the VNA. Just hours before my beloved and precious parent died, the hospice nurse told me to go out and "celebrate" with a milk shake. Thats right! The hospice nurse told me to "celebrate." Folks, I am not making this up. I shall regret the decision to utilize the VNA hospice for the rest of my life. I am heartbroken.

My family member is on Hospice and needs nursing care and they receive this through VNA of northern New Jersey! THEY HONSTLY STINK....i feel that they DO NOT CARE about an idividuals heath needs and they lack any "hospice" care at all. My family member who is the caregiver of my family memeber who needs the service is lead to feel that what or how the individual doctors for the person receiving care dictates, they do NOT care, they will do what "they" feel is needed, dispite how the very caring individual of that family member is providing! This certain family member has only had ONE (1) loyal and experienced care giver and the others do not perform CNA duties at all and are a hinderance NOT a help at all, not to mention the "nursing" care from the Hospice nurse....she has her OWN agenda and that obviously does not include the care of the patient OR the caregiver. SHe does what SHE believes is right....not what she is told! I AM DISGUSTED BY THIS AND DO NOT KNOW HOW TO HELP....

They will push hospice care on you even if you just want palliate care. They do this because hospice care makes them more money, and that is what it is all about. They get paid by the day even when they dont come for a visit. Which is most of the time. The hospital equipment is junky. They say all sorts of things to get you to sign up but you are pretty much on youre own. Hey, where are all those volunteers you promised. Will not use them again for anything.

ZERO STARS!!! My relative had the VNA hospice care. When the nurse came to our home to pronounce him dead she placed the pulse oximeter on his finger. I asked her what it revealed and she said, "Oh forget about it." Then she giggled. So I ask the VNA: Is this the way you train your nurses to pronounce someone dead when grieving family members are present? Is it a joke to you?

They show up whenever and sometimes not at all and dont call you. If they do bother to call you it is to ask you if they really need to send an aide because it is getting late in the day. They dont do holiday weekends which means if the government is off for say veterans day then they are off that whole weekend. People need care even on holidays!

Their nurses are not properly trained. They dont know how to schedule visits. They dont fill out paperwork properly. And they miss visits without calling.

During the first seven days of "hospice" care, the VNA came once. The nurse tried to drug my parent right away. We were upset with this.
