Update: Dr. Christman sent me a personal letter about my "Facebook posting" (in reference to the below Google review) regarding my problem with her office. She justified what I was told at the front desk (that I hadnt met my deductible and that I owed a $90 copay) by writing that "forms are confusing as each plan is different, and there is a lot of information on the form from the insurance company." In response to what her own billing department told my insurance company over the phone (and what they then communicated to me) about a flat rate of $90 up front, Dr. Christman writes, "that is completely inaccurate." Even though thats what her own staff told my insurance company. Dr. Christman even included a correspondence, apparently from her office manager to Dr. Christman, that they actually did know beforehand my copay was $30 but decided to charge me $90 anyway, which pretty much voids her whole comment about insurance being confusing. Her office manager writes, "I also said to front if patient had problem with this to just collect $30 copay and I would deal with having to collect form her". So Jane and Dr. Christmans office knowingly overcharged me, then blamed it on insurance being confusing. Wow. Dr. Christman goes on to claim that her medical assistant "mentioned to you that you had a deductible" (her assistant in fact told me it might be extra if I needed any procedures done that day, which I did not, and I also did not have a deductible to begin with.) But the condescension doesnt stop there! The letter also contained a print out of my own original Google review (see below) with arbitrary highlights and circles as well as another printed page highlighting "exceptions" to my particular insurance plan, including a highlight over the phrase "out of state policies are completely different." I have lived in North Carolina my entire life. There are also highlighted sections in the multi-page letter from Dr. Christman recapping the conversation Dr. Christmans office had with my insurance company, indicating that the rep was totally fine with all of this, but luckily my insurance company records all of their phone calls and so I will not lose sleep over what I was told, nor Dr. Christmans schoolyard attempt at showcasing me as a liar. This letter, its patronizing tone, and the failure of this entire office to admit that I was overcharged, confirms my decision to move on from this doctor. Their attempt to belittle and condescend in response to a completely legitimate complaint from a patient is both telling and insulting, and I cant wait to move on. Original review starts here: I enjoyed having Dr. Christman as my dermatologist until today. Upon checkout, I was told that my copay was $90 even though I have Blue Cross insurance with a $30 specialist copay. I even double checked to make sure this office was in-network when I made my appointment, which they confirmed. When I asked the person at the front desk why it was $90, she said that I hadnt met my deductible yet and that the other $60 would be refunded if I did end up meeting my deductible this year. This made no sense to me, so I paid the $90 and then called BCBS when I got home. BCBS told me that what Dr. Christmans office told me was completely wrong-- Dr. Christmans office is in-network, I do not have to meet any deductible for my copay to be $30 at their office, and that I never should have had to pay more than my $30 copay. BCBS called Dr. Christmans office on my behalf, and they told the representative something completely different-- that they charge all patients a flat $90 copay up front until claims are approved. No one at Dr. Christmans office told me this beforehand. This was also the first time the representative had heard of this kind of business practice. Now I have to wait for the claim to be processed, which could take up to six months, until I receive the $60 back that I never owed this office to begin with. Very disappointing.

Dr Christman most likely saved my life. I could be the poster child for early detection. I had not been to see her in a couple years. At the urging of my wife I made an appointment for a check up. Working my way through college as a beach and outdoor pool lifeguard and a adult life of SCUBA trip vacations I knew I was a prime candidate for skin cancer, but to date - nothing. Dr Christman is efficient , no nonsense yet personable , professional and extremely knowledgeable. During a through examination, she discovered a spot on my back that was cancerous. Dr Christman removed and had it sent to a lab where it was determined to be malignant melanoma . I was refereed to Dr Eugene Bain for surgery, in house. It was done, prognosis, all gone ! The time frame for everything was < two weeks. Follow up visit, a small place on my check bone was scrapped as C cells were forming , addressed, all gone. Can not say enough about early detection. I have always found Dr Christman and her staff professional , respectful and efficient. My questions have always been addressed to my satisfaction. I feel comfortable & safe that my family and I are in capable knowledgeable caring hands .

I came in for a horrible rash on my legs and Dr. Christman came in and looked at them for all of 2 or 3 seconds. She said it was a bad allergic reaction to poison ivy, explained the treatments very fast, and she was out the door. After a few days, my rashes were getting worse and spreading. I went to an urgent care and the doctor said my rash was infected. If Dr. Christman had taken the time to actually assess my legs and condition, she wouldve seen it when I was in the office. I realize poison ivy is not a big deal to a dermatologist, but its still no excuse to be dismissive and rush out the door. I will never come back here and advise people not to see her.

I never heard from anybody at this office in regards to my review, which denotes the unprofessional staff and need to continue to makes a new appointment simply to get a refill that was already promised. This facility is only out for your insurance money. Oh yeah, and dont mention a issue while you are in an appointment if you didnt mention it while you made the appointment. You need to make another appointment.

The Dr was extremely friendly and personable. She took a lot of time talking to my daughter and making sure she was happy with the visit. Although I have a higher copay here, I will happily go back.

Probably the most incompetent dr. Dermatologist I met in my all life. And the previous reviews about the rude staff, and overcoding and overscheduling appointments, they are all true.

I have been going to Dr. Abernathy Christman for two decades and have found her to be very professional and competent.
