I took my dog to this VCA hospital because it was very close to my house and I had a very good experience on other VCA hospitals before. My dog has stopped eating on that day (he was acting completely normal the day before) so we took him in late afternoon, we were seen by the doctor that did a physical exam and requested blood work because my dog looked pale (gums were whitish), the doctor gave him a shot, and after 1 hour he started acting normal again and also started eating again (his gums turned back to regular pinkish color). Next day on friday morning the doctor called me back giving me the "great news" that my dog didnt have heart or stomach worm desease but that he was anemic, nothing serious but that she would like to see an Xray or ultrasound. My husband called her back with questions but she didnt called back until saturday... On Saturday my dog was still acting fine and eating until about lunch time (still under effect of the shot) when he started acting very weird, unresponsive, not following us with his eyes and not moving or getting up. At the point we didnt feel comfortable with the situation and went to Weston Animal Hospital, we showed the blood work done by VCAs doctor and they told me the results were very bad and dog should have been referred to emergency at the same time the doctor had seen the exams, which did NOT happened... The case was so serious that we where then referred to an emergency hospital that could do a blood transfusion, the exam in fact showed that my dog had 21,000 red blood cells when he should have at least 170,000 but VCA doctor failed to inform us that. My dog had an internal bleeding from a rupture in his spleen and liver, and he passed on that same Saturday. Obviously we had no idea of how serious this was because the doctor from VCA failed to explain to us, what did that blood work mean and how life threatning it was (nothing serious. Really????) Awful!!! The doctor called me back on monday, when my husband called back VCA he asked for the doctor NOT to call me back, but she called anyways and left me a message saying that she was sorry about my loss, but I trusted her with my baby and she failed me as an owner of my lovely dog, and him because he was suffering and she failed to identify that. Incredibly disappointed and scarred by this terrible experience.

Im not super thrilled. I brought my puppy here because we got her from the humane society and VCA offers a free rabies vaccination within ten days of adoption from the humane society. This location is closest to my house, so its at least convenient. When I scheduled the appointment the woman on the phone asked for me to bring a stool sample, but told me that it would be fine if I didnt. I didnt because we were transitioning the puppys food and so she was having some bowel issues. The front staff were pleasant enough, but I was overall turned off by my whole experience when compared with other vets Ive been to. They gave me a sample cup to bring back a stool sample whenever I could, the vet said "because dogs from the humane society USUALLY have parasites or kennel cough." If that is the truth, then I dont understand why they couldnt just take a stool sample right there in the office. I didnt get the impression that they were super concerned about my dogs health, and just wanted to sell me something. They also tried to get me to subscribe to ComboGuard, which is just a rebranded Trifexis, which, after some research on the subject, has proven to be deadly to lots and lots of dogs. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this location ever again. UPDATE: After writing this review, VCA apparently got it and gave me a call. I didnt answer it because I was at work, but in their voicemail they asked how my dog was and told me that theyd gotten this review and wanted to talk about it. Id planned to call them back, but when I got home, I had to clean up some diarrhea that my dog had while I was gone for the day. So, I called VCA and, since I was more concerned about the health of my puppy than discussing the contents of this review, I asked if diarrhea a full 48 hours after a rabies vaccine was normal or if I should do something about it. Whoever answered the phone told me that theyd have the doctor call me back. I called at about 4:30, they close at 7, I did not hear from them. I didnt hear from them the next day either. Either the person who answered the phone never gave my message to whatever vet was supposed to call me, or they really dont care about the health of my dog more than their pride over some petty review. Either way, I would very strongly not recommend bringing your pet here.

I took my doggie here bcus it was a free exam. After I adopted him from the humane society. Well the front desk staff was not welcoming. They didnt acknowledge me when I walked in I had to stand there looking dumb and I finally had to grab someones attention like "hello??" And she said to talk to this other girl at the desk (whats the difference) anyways the girl asked for my dogs paper work to check his history of vaccines and tests done at the shelter. She then didnt even get herself up from the desk to weight my dog she made me take him and asked what the scale said (lol) I thought it was a joke. I then got called to the exam room. The tech or whoever he was didnt even look at my dog he came in with a paper already telling me what flea/worm medication I needed to get him on and to have his vaccines for the flu and kennel cough done. 1. Im a good doggie mom so I had done the research and already knew what medicine I was gonna give him and the one he was recommending only covered half of the things the medication I was gonna buy him covered. Its bcus they push these things for their commission. 2. Kennel cough isnt a vaccine you need unless you are constantly boarding your dog or have your dog around other dogs that might be infected they wanted to charge me over $100 for the 2 vaccines only. Thats another joke. Lastly when I told him that I wasnt gonna purchase none of the products he got defensive and said "ok Im gonna get the doctor" and left. The doctor came, looked at my dog and petted him. Didnt do nothing else and said he seemed okay. What a waste of time. She didnt care to look into his file or anything like that. Anyways its been almost 2 months since I went to VCA and I keep getting this reminders in the mail that my dog is due for 2 other vaccines that he is NOT due for bcus in his file or shows when he had the vaccines and they are annual vaccines. They just dont know how to push stuff to sell. They are like a grocery store. Terrible service and lack of attention bcus of the girl at the front wouldve done her job property and I put his correct info I wouldnt be getting these reminders. Anyways. Do yourself a favor and dont take your pups here. I took my baby to Animal Hospital of Univ. Drive. Amazing clinic !
