Where do i begin to tell all of you my story about my cat that could have ended horribly. I had taken my cat to Lefferts Animal Hospital for many reasons 1) It was conveniently close to home, 2) I wouldnt have to stress out my cat with the long car ride to his original vet, 3) I heard this place was good with animals. When I stepped into the Hospital, there was this major urine stench that almost provoked me to vomit. I held it back because my cat was priority and I needed to know what was wrong with him. Within weeks he had lost lots of weigh, his coat had lost luster and he was biting his skin. When I finally got in to see the vet, she was at least very informative about my cats condition, ran some tests, gave him medication for his condition ( he had flees and had allergies because of them), and updated his shots. Although, the Vets assistant held him down harshly because he was moving around alot and was scared. I let them do their job because I figured thats how they control the animals. Needless to say, at that point I was satisfied with the service they had provided my cat with. Two days later the vet had called me with the blood results. The results showed that he had a Thyroid problem and that he required medication. I went to purchase it from the Animal Hospital itself. I was told to give him half a pill in the morning and then the other half later the same day. I was never told anything else. Surprisingly the Vet nor the staff ever called me back to ask for his condition. I gave him the medication as indicated for 3 days. Thats when everyone in my family and including myself started to notice my cats condition worsening. He slept all day, he didnt eat and on the third day he stopped using the litter. What was worse is that he developed bumps on his hind legs. Bumps so huge that prevented him to lay down, barely walk and he cried every time he was touched. In matter of days I saw my poor cat deteriorate. Luckily, we made an appointment with his old Vet clinic and we took him there. It turned out my cat was allergic to the medication and that if we hadnt stopped it he would have died. The Vet was extremely informative, kind and sweet with my cat. They handled him with so much care and they didnt have to pull his skin or neck. Thank God, he is doing better now and has regained his energy. After seeing and experiencing this with my cat I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO LEFFERTS ANIMAL HOSPITAL!!!! If my story isnt enough to make you stay away from this place, my neighbor had brought his dog for dental cleaning, within 1 hr the staff called him to go pick up the dog because it was dying. When he got to the Animal Hospital, they handed him the dog because there was nothing they could do for him. The dog died. You be the judge, isnt the hospital a place where you send the sickly to get better and to give them a chance to live? Then think twice about coming to this killing field where they only take your money and dont really care about your pets life.

Ive gone to this place quite a few times for my dog. The front desk and the veterinarians were very nice and treated my puppy normally despite him being very big for his size (Doberman) and I appreciated that because he is very sweet. My puppy had varying problems that I sent him to the vet for, and dont get me wrong they all seemed knowledgeable and nice but I only liked 2 of the veterinarians I saw. Sadly I cant say who they were because literally I saw a different vet EVERYTIME I went! The reason why I only liked two is because they didnt try to get me to spend as much money as possible when going and were straight up with what can/should be done to help my puppy. Literally everytime I went I was spending over $200 for simple things like dandruff! I didnt mind taking care of my puppy but it was ridiculous to be up selled and pressured into procedures that cost so much. When my dog got bloat they give you a stupid estimate paper of the procedures theyll be doing and made it seem like I HAD to do everything they put in front of me ($1200 and up I believe) and at the end of the day its always more than the estimate. I told them we couldnt afford that (on top of the 10+ back to back visits of over $100 previously done) and that they needed to find a more affordable option. That vet that day made me feel horrible for even suggesting that. My puppy is okay today, but we avoided many "check ups" because it would end up always more things we needed to buy. If you have a puppy that needs many visits to a vet and no budget by all means go here! Besides the experience with the veterinarians themselves their lobby is very small. If you have a big dog like I do it can make other people uncomfortable when it starts to get packed. Also, the appointments are a joke. You go there, sign in and they go by that list not by appointments. So Ill have an 11:30 appointment, get there by 11:20 and not be seen for over 30 minutes even if its an emergency. I do like the people there, but I cannot take the upselling/expensive prices and different vets everytime I go its too much to ask of a worried pet owner. Ill be looking for another place that fits my needs better.

This vet was recommended to my girlfriend and I by our breeder for the new French Bulldog puppy we adopted. Saving the reader a long winded story of unethical treatment, I will make a few points about this vet. First of all, we were always made to wait for at least 45 minutes to an hour in the office, and when we actually made it into an examination room, we were always rushed and treated with disdain should we have a question. Not to mention the front desk actually skipped us over a few times without meaning to - on those days we waited well over an hour and a half. Second, and perhaps most importantly, the doctors we saw refused to do anything for our dog that was diagnostic, preventative, or curative. Instead of running tests to rule out possible problems, they prescribed us expensive medicine. If the meds didnt work, it was on to the next diagnosis. The treatment was purely speculative AT ALL TIMES. Third, nothing about the way these people treat their animals or their human counterparts is indicative of a team of medical professionals. Let me excuse the veterinary technicians from this group, because they were generally very caring and professional. But as for the vets and receptionists, they will treat you like a number, and in their mind they are minimalizing you down to dollars and cents. In fact, we were supposed to take our dog in for ~$800 surgery but the night before he started explosively diarrhea-ing. This was a condition that they diagnosed via prescription (see above) a few weeks earlier, and obviously had not cured. I called them the morning of surgery to request that a doctor see the dog to confirm that he was even in a position to go under general anesthesia. They informed me that we would have to pay an extra $85 to even see a doctor before surgery. If this practice treats your pet better than theyve treated mine, more power to you. But if you feel at all like the way youre being treated is not right, rest assured that you are not crazy. I went to a new vet today that came highly recommended, and it does not even bear comparison with Lefferts.
