Dr, Metzler has cared for SadieSue LaRue for over 4 years (she is now 8). SadieSue is a cocker spaniel with the usual personality traits- jumping off of high places she was taught not to go....which she goes immediately after we leave for work. One day SadieSue could not even move, I called our old vet who hung up on me (SadieSue had gone there from birth). I called back. The response was "we are busy right now call back later". I was beside myself. Our neighbor was going to Dr. Metzlers office and his dog was healthy and happy to go to the vet. So I called Dr. Metzlers office and explained exactly what I had said to the other office. Dr. Metzlers office response was "it sounds like you are really concerned, do you want to come in, in 15 minutes or we have an opening 2 hours from now". We were there in 15 minutes. Dr. Metzler found SadieSue had sprained her ankle and dislocated her elbow and shoulder. He took the time to explain everything, and told me what to expect. The next day the office even called to check on our baby. Dr. Metzler is calm with your pet. He gives you options and lets you choose the best course for your pet. Dr. Metzler has done teeth cleaning (a number of times), removed fatty tissue tumors and done all of our girls shots and check ups since that fateful day. The office is spotless, the techs are great and the cost is very reasonable. The biggest plus is SadieSue now happily trots in to see Dr. Metzler.

Over the last 30 years I have encountered many veterinarians in several states. Never have I been as impressed by or grateful to any of them as I am to Dr. Metzler. His clinical expertise is impressive, but it is his excellent "bedside" manner of straight talk, compassionate care and common sense that encourages me to give such a glowing recommendation. I have always received immediate professional responses to every question or request for assistance from not only Dr. Metzler, but his care team of Vet. technicians and assistants. Honorable mention definitely goes to Steve and Elaine. They exemplify the philosophy and high standards that Dr. Metzler requires. It has always been clear that their priority is the furry patient above all things. Personally, I believe that the quality care rendered by Dr. Metzler saved the life of one very precious 14+ yr. old Schnauzer, Zoe. If you are looking for the Gold Standard in Veterinary care, I whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Douglas Metzler and his staff to you for your special furry friend.

I dropped off my sons dog to be boarded, and requested a Bordetella shot since it was due as well as a bath prior pick up. Ariel, the tech, asked me for a signature. I forgot my glasses in the car and told her I couldnt see what I was signing . I asked her if I should go and get the glasses. She said no. I asked her if only exactly what was requested (the boarding, Bordetella and bath) was on the form. She nodded and said it s a routine signature and everyone has to sign when dropping off a pet. I signed and asked for a copy of what I signed. To my surprise her answer was that I couldnt get it until the pick up time. At the pick up time I was in for an even bigger surprise. The price tag for all services was 3x the services requested. It included an annual exam by a vet we never met and a shot due a month into the future. Obviously I brought it all on to myself but still, very disappointing.

We just moved to the Clearwater area and I needed to find a veterinarian for my dog. While performing a search on Google, I found out about Metzler Veterinary Hospital and scheduled an appointment. I took my dog there this morning for a new patient evaluation. Dr. Metzler and his veterinary technician, Chelsea, were very warm, welcoming, and compassionate. They really focus on your concerns and observations. My dog suffers from skin allergies, and Dr. Metzler is extremely knowledgeable concerning dermatological conditions. We are so thrilled to have discovered such a great veterinarian who is only minutes away from our home. After being treated in the office with injections of cortisone and an antibiotic, my boy is feeling much better, and he is not itching or pulling any fur out. I highly recommend Dr. Metzler and Metzler Veterinary Hospital for tender, loving care of your pet and family member.

I took my first bunny pet there for a simple exam and thought the staff was very friendly and the doctors, for exotic small pets, were knowledgeable. Because of my first good experience with them, I brought my second bunny to them for an exam and the staff was just as friendly and knowledgeable. I just recently had my second bunny break a toe. I took her here and they were so great. Took care of her toe. The surgery went great. Took good care of her after surgery; fed her and etc. Im really pleased with this veterinary hospital. And I feel very comfortable with their services and their prices for exotic pets. If you had/have an exotic pet before, you know they arent cheap to take care of and not every vet does a great job or not every hospital have exotic pet experiences. I give 5 stars because they truly deserve it. Thank you all, staff and doctors for everything. Odin and Cayman <3 you.

I took my cat there due to tumors on her belly and we had to make the difficult decision to put her down...although we were upset at losing her the staff was highly professional, friendly and you could tell they were wanting to do their best to comfort us. We actually took her in to consider surgery and based on the options for the cost they did a x-ray but the cancer had spread to her chest...about a week after we put her down we received a letter of consolation from Metzler along with a paw print they took of our cat. It was the sweetest thing I had ever seen a vet do, since we had not thought of getting anything other than her ashes to remember her by...when we went to pick her ashes up they were polite and very sympathetic...I fell they were professional from beginning to end and were nothing short of exceptional :)
