I took my 89 year old mother, who came from Florida to stay with me, to Dr. Kocharian of 435 Arden Avenue, #450 Glendale, Ca. 91203, as Verdugo Hospital referred us to Dr. Kocharian, to get new prescriptions for high blood pressure and diabetes medicine. The nurse said there was a problem with my Moms Medicare number so she would have to get that resolved and reschedule the appointment. My Mom explained that she was completely out of medicine. Half her face is paralyzed from a recent stroke. Thats why we took her to Verdugo Hills Hospital. The nurse said she could not let us see the doctor and to go to urgent care. I told the nurse that the emergency room said they only handle emergencies and that the hospital referred us to Dr. Kocharian for the refill of the prescriptions. The nurse said Mom had to have a working Medicare number. Its obviously an error in the system somewhere as my Mom pays $150 month from her pension to have Medicare insurance. She worked at her job for 30 years and was fully covered at her work and had been under Medicare for 30 years! I then offered to pay the $220 fee cash. I said I cant leave my mother completely without any medicine. She is out. My Mom said shes been out of high blood pressure for 3 days. She could go in a diabetic coma or Have a stroke. I said again that I will pay cash for the doctor!! The nurse said the doctor was told that my Mom had a problem with the Medicare card so had left for the day! I asked her to call him on his phone and get him right back. Wed been in the waiting room for over an hour! She said "Hes not coming back today." Shaking her head side to side, with her eyes wide open, as if she was afraid to even call him. They did nothing, took no vitals, simply said that her social security number didnt match her Medicare number so there was nothing they could do until that was resolved. I said she has NO medicine! The nurse offered to make another appointment for next Tuesday. I said she cant wait that long. She shouldnt be out of meds for even a day. I said if my Mom dies Ill sue you and Im writing this up to the medical board as medical negligence. There was absolutely no duty of care! She said, "Im sorry." I said that your apology is NOT going to bring my Mom back to me if she dies. This doctor left, walking right past an 89 year old patient standing in his waiting room, who he knew urgently needed attention because he was told there was a problem with her Medicare not matching her social security number! I was standing there as her daughter, willing to pay cash! It was the most cruel, insensitive and rude experience Ive ever seen from a doctor. This doctor obviously has no ethics or morals and cares only about money. He certainly doesnt care about his patients or his oath. I took my Mom to another doctor nearby, told the office staff what just happened and they took my Mom in right away. They checked her blood pressure and said it was 204/101!!!!!!! Thank God that office and doctor cares about human beings and gave us the care my mother needed with the prescriptions she needed!!! Dr. Kocharian sent my mother home to die!!!

The most unprofessional medical office I have ever experienced. Dr. Kocharian bought the practice from my former doctor, who retired. Slowly, but surely, the practice began to fade under his arrogance. I usually made my appointments first thing in the morning before work. I would show up on time and be the only person in the waiting room at 8 AM on a Monday morning, and I would wait and wait and wait. More than once I dozed off in the waiting room alone only to wake myself up 30 minutes past my appointment time. I asked the doctor what the hold up was, and his answer was, "Well, its Monday." The office staff behaves as though they are afraid of him. The ones who remained behave nervously and motion to the doctor when a simple and reasonable request cant be accommodated or an answer cant be explained. The kicker was when I lost my job during the recession. I was only being treated regularly for cholesterol, and had to pay $794 a month in COBRA. When I realized I couldnt afford that and rent, I dropped the COBRA and called the doctor. I explained the situation, that I no longer had medical insurance, and asked what I should do about the generic Lipitor I was taking. What was the least expensive way, in his opinion, to get it. His answer still amazes me. He said, "Well, you cant stop taking it. In fact, youre due for blood work to see how thats doing." I reminded him I didnt have insurance, so was he going to comp this office visit and blood work and the meds too? He said, "Thats a social problem. Im here to give you medical advice." Apparently, he thinks these issues are mutually exclusive, and he refuses to even address them. I was stunned, and we agreed to part ways.

Dr. Kocharian M.D. is our family physician. We really appreciate his wisdom and especially his engaging personality. He always seems to come up with the right diagnosis.
