I have been a patient of Dr. Pamela Helbling for three years, and find the front office staff at Florida Eye Clinic on Maguire Road to be helpful, knowledgeable and kind. However, Dr. Helbling’s assistant/technician is less than professional, argumentative and caustic. This seems to be accepted by Dr. Helbling, which makes going to this office uncomfortable and frustrating. My sister-in-law, niece, and husband have all found new optometrist after experiencing the same lack of professionalism. My most recent visit was to replace a pair of glasses. Although my last exam was 10 months ago (prescription still valid), I agreed to a new exam. Before starting my exam, I asked for a copy of my contact prescription and was told I could not have it as I did not come back for my follow up a few months ago. Although the trial contacts fit, the prescription was correct, and I paid for the service in full, the assistant refused to provide my valid (not expired) contact prescription. She cited that I had 30 days to follow up and did not, therefore, I must start over and pay for a new fitting. Had she offered to help find a solution as opposed to aggressively ridiculing me, the appointment could have gone in a better direction. Instead, the level of frustration just communicating with this employee caused me to quietly walk out of the office after remembering the experience I had during the fitting. The fitting with Dr. Helbling’s assistant was extremely uncomfortable. Both her language and physical interaction was abrasive and aggressive. I left the office feeling both physically and emotionally ill-treated. My eyes physically hurt from the technician’s roughness. This time I was kindly asked by the front office staff to come back in and share my experience with Dr. Helbling in hopes of preventing this type of situation from happening again. When speaking with Dr. Helbling, although much more professional, she failed to inquire regarding my experience. She only seemed concerned with collecting a new contact fitting fee, along with my eye exam and new glass purchase. I did attempt to share my experience with her, but was cut off and told she was aware of the situation which led down the same frustrating path that I walked away from just minutes prior. There was no inquiry as to my experience and no concern that I was unhappy with the level of service. Although I had already picked out my frames and needed a new pair of glasses, I decided to take my business to another doctor that would appreciate, respect and care for the patient experience.

So this location is okay. I wouldnt recommend it but I didnt have any issues either. The receptionist is a little ditzy, which resulted in a few issues on my appointment. First, my birth year was 20 years off. Second, when she handed me my next appointment slip, she wrote the days date instead of the date of my appointment so I had to call back to get the correct information. Finally, the eye technician (not the doctor) was complaining to me about the receptionist during my appointment. It was very uncomfortable. Dr. Pamela is amazing though. She was so knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. I just wish her staff was a bit more professional. Update 4 months later: I have decided to change my review from 3 stars to one star and will be finding a new eye doctor for my family and I. As I previously said, Dr Pamela is excellent but her staff is infuriating. When I ordered my glasses in October of 2016, I never received a call saying they were ready. Eventually I had to reach out to them and their response was they had called me multiple times and left messages. Today I called about my contacts that I ordered in March 2017. She said that they called multiple times but received a message saying my number could not be reached. I told her this has happened before and the problem must be with the eye clinic because everyone else can get a hold of me. Theresa became defensive and immediately said they contact loads of patients everyday and dont have an issue. Personally, I think she never called me and instead wrote down and excuse. This eye clinic is unprofessional and Ill choose to take my business someplace else where they can actually call their customers and treat them with respect.

Love them. Dr Helbling is great. She know just how to distract me to complete the tests needed. I cant say enough about the staff. Dawn is hilarious, we joke about almost everything. Jackie & Theresa are warm and inviting. They are also great when I have to pick out new glasses. They have always taken great care of me.

Florida Eye Clinic gives excellent service. Gives me value for my money and time. If you want a complete eye care service, I am highly recommending them!
