I have visited Newbury Park Vision Center (NPVC) several times a year over the last 10 years, buying various types and styles of glasses and contacts. In each case, the customer service was very good, starting with the initial eye exam, the initial fittings and the follow up visits. I had developed a problem with my first set of contacts, which was quickly fixed without charge, due to the efforts of Dr. Franz Michel and his professional staff (especially Mark). It turned out that the problem was due to me not properly sanitizing my lenses according to the procedure that had been provided to me at the time I received my lenses. I recently did a cost comparison for a pair of reading glasses at Costco, Lens Crafters & NPVC, with my own prescription in hand. The glasses at NPVC cost me $5.65 more than Costco (lowest price), however this small price difference did not matter to me due to the extra piece-of-mind I felt knowing that Dr. Michel (an admitted medical doctor or M.D.) was looking at my eyes, which to me has added value over being seen at the "other places" by a standard doctor of Optometry or O.D., who can not do surgery. As a final point, I did my due diligence prior to my first visit with Dr. Michel at NPVC,, wherein I found out that during his residency as an M.D., early in his career, he had been offered a faculty position at an Ivy League medical school. That was enough for me, reinforcing that I was in good hands.

I dont know who wrote all the other reviews but this doctor basically just wants to take your money. I was charged $145.00 for a "Lens fitting" which included him handing me a couple sample lenses. Then my insurance was billed $200 of which he was paid another 135.00. He spent about 5 minutes having me read a couple of signs and then looked at my eyes and said all was well. My experience is LENS CRAFTERS does a much more thorough exam and actually sits with you and makes sure the lenses work. Also, they dont make you sit and wait 20 minutes. I would not recommend Dr. Franz Michel.

Ive purchased Contacts twice at Vision Venter... first time... about $40 bucks... Second time (2 months later) $70 bucks. Same prescription. I dont know what they base it on... I also got co-payment charged for picking up my eyeglasses. W. T. F. On the upside... the actual doctor is good... and pro.
