Bottom Line: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! I had an appointment at the Hillsborough location today (as a NEW patient mind you) and from the time the Dr. walked into the exam room to the time I walked out their front door was exactly 7 minutes. Throughout the meeting she made it very apparent she was rushing our visit, throwing ideas, diagnosis, and treatments at me a mile a minute, it was completely overwhelming, and I’ve worked in healthcare for over 12 years. Worst “bedside manner” I have ever seen. I have a mole that needed to be looked at, and in front of another staff member (I don’t know who they were or why they were there by the way) she asked me to pull my pants down so she could see it! Then when I tried to address another concern I had, she stopped me, told me since I hadn’t mentioned it when I called to make the appointment she did not have the time to discuss it and we could talk about it in 3 months when I came back for my follow up visit! (which I will not be making). I can understand this to some extend, needing to manage appointment time, but she had only spent five minutes with me at this point! I had mentioned when I made the appointment that I had a mole I was concerned about and a skin issue, so I guess five minutes is the allotted time for both of those?!…wonder how long the office visit they billed my insurance for was? I bet not 5 minutes! Then as I am literally being ushered out the door she is still telling me all these random side effects and things to watch out for from the med she has decided to put me on, but that since I look healthy we don’t need to do any lab work….Wow....

I have been a patient of this practice for a number of years. Their service is usually "ok" or "acceptable" but rarely is it excellent. Recently I called the office (to follow-up on a prescription refill request from a week earlier) but got a recording saying the office mailbox was full. I then called their Pennington office to see if anyone there could help. I was told that the Princeton office was understaffed and busy converting to a new record keeping system. I was advised to keep calling back. The Pennington receptionist said she could take my name & contact info but couldnt guarantee that she could deliver the message to the Princeton office. Finally, I decided to drive to the Princeton office. I arrived to find 3 women at the front desk, none of whom seemed too busy to answer the phone! I reported my problem in trying to contact them earlier. No one seemed to care. Eventually, I learned that my prescription refill had been approved but never called in to the pharmacy. When I picked up the medicine the following day, I discovered that it was the wrong medicine. (It was not dangerous but was something I used earlier but it didnt work.) Why do I still go to this practice? Over the years my family and I have tried 2-3 other dermatologists and they were even worse. The docs are PDA are competent for routine stuff but I can not recommend them with much enthusiasm. Perhaps they are too big and too spread out over too many offices. Princeton should be able to do better.

My first appointment with Dr. Kaufman will be my last. I loved the office, the appointment people were great, great waiting room, etc., too bad the experience was terrible. Prepared for a skin exam, I was sitting in the room waiting in a paper gown. In every other exam of this sort, the doctor had asked me to stand and then drop my gown on the side he was examining, thats what I expected. Instead, without warning, after shaking my hand and getting some history, Dr. Kaufman ripped open the gown to examine me. No warning. He ended up examinging my front while I was seated, by ripping down the front center, and then up the two legs. He was standing above me, and he didnt mention what he was going to do. Weirdly intimidating. He had me stand up to examine my back, then he held the door open as I tried to get my questions in as he headed out the door. So there I was, standing holding the torn gown together while people passed in the hallway. All very strange indeed. I went ahead and made followup appointments, didnt talk about it to anyone for 2 days, and then realized how very upset I was. Unprofessional and even unkind. That was my experience, maybe it was just a bad day- it certainly was a disturbing one for me and once is quite enough!

Today I had a billing person hang up on me. (Yes, hung up on me.) They were not willing to listen and assist with an insurance issue. The issue was not on my end but with them and the insurance company however was not willing to entertain that they could have been at fault and insisted that my insurance changed. (It DID NOT!!!) This is the second time Ive had an issue with the office staff. The first was about 2 years back when I called to ask if they could renew a prescription. I left a message with all of my info and the phone number to my pharmacy. They called to tell me they wouldnt call in prescriptions. After explaining my situation to them the the office person got very nasty with me said they would make an exception just this one time and hung up on me. (I chalked it up to them having a bad day.) But, I guess they are just not customer focused. Ive been a patient there for 5 years and have only had 2 phone requests and both times they were nasty, cofrontational, and hung up on my. I WILL NOT be going back there!

Although I have been a patient there for several years (small issues that require a few visits every year), I have to agree with the other reviewers...the staff is very rude and snobbish and God help you if you ask a lot of questions regarding appointment availability at their other offices (which are run completely separate by the way). One thing that really annoyed me was that twice the receptionists scheduled me with an "intern". You need to "request" a doctor visit or else he/she makes a "check in" for 5 minutes during the visit and then scoots out the door. In any case, the 2 doctors I saw in that office were very cold and did not take the time to explain or discuss things at length. I also found the laser scheduling extremely inconvenient - particularly since the procedure had to be repeated after the first time my treatment did not work. Dr. Kaufman is very skilled but his patient bedside manner needs a serious makeover! I have decided to start going elsewhere.

Terrible Phone Impression! I made an appointment at the Princeton location and was horrified by how rude the woman was on the phone. She interrupted every time I tried to ask a question and did so with a unbelievably pretentious and rude tone. After making the appointment I thought about the whole experience. If this woman is the "public face" of this practice and so many people have had the same experience, why should I subject myself to being treated this way? I have had better experiences at the NJDMV. She works for people who are supposed to be looking out for your well being. After further thought I decided to find a different practice. I cancelled my appointment and decided to seek care elsewhere. It may not be fair to judge the doctors from their receptionist, but if they dont care how patients are treated on the phone, why should they care in the examination room?
