I do not drive, and getting a sick cat anywhere is a trial. When one of my housecats started throwing up common round worms I called this vet, as my regular vet was on vacation, and they were closest to me. I told them how difficult it would be to take the cat over there but I would bring worm samples from the vomit, and would that be ok? Oh no, no, they HAD to see the animal if theyd never seen them before. Baloney! Because before I left the office when I finally arranged a ride over there, they were prescribing (and running up the bill) for my other cat- WHO THEY HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE AND HADNT SEEN *THAT* DAY....I could have left the first cat home with the one I didnt bring in and gotten medicine for both. This was a simple case of common round worms; I had them in a medicine bottle for examination. Then the doctor started the absolutely have to run up the bill giving booster shots which werent needed right then, and I couldnt afford because Im on Social Security and I can never afford ANY big bill all at once. Then the doctor wouldn t give me cheap, affordable, and absolutely effective liquid Strongid to get rid of the worms- which Id used in the past repeatedly with excellent results every time. No, he would only sell me this expensive (high profit, no doubt) liquid thats put on the back, seeps into the whole body, and supposedly kills other things the cat DID NOT HAVE. Though this is a big justification when pushing a high priced, high profit item over a simple, safe, effective one (like taking Vioxx over simple Aspirin). In my opinion this vet is concerned with only one thing- running up the bill and making choices based on what makes him more money, and not what is in your budget, or you are comfortable with from past experience. In my opinion, during my visit he didnt listen to me at all, kept pushing things to run up the bill to something I could not afford to handle at the time, and, in my opinion, was less than truthful about how he was treating my cat; and he was happy to prescribe and SELL me stuff for my other cat at home, but made me go through the trouble of bringing the first one in- to get an office visit fee(!)- and also telling me the cat had fleas, when she didnt. Sound like a vet you want to trust your pet to?? I would NEVER go back to, or recommend this place to anyone. Call Dr. Laura Senk in Farmingdale- well in advance as she does not have clinic hours every day- and get seen by a super competent, reasonable, fair priced, compassionate vet who isnt one of these vets who appear to be out to empty your entire life savings into their bank account in one visit. P.S. The only other review up here, when I posted this, stressed how sympathetic this vet was when she took her dog there, and THE DOG DIED ! In my opinion, sympathy is easy and cheap- veterinary competence and honesty are rare. Take your pick.

I have been using Animal Medical Hospital since I had my last dog. I can tell you that all the doctors and staff are caring loving individuals who give you the feeling that your pet is part of their family...and it also makes you feel part of their family as well. I adopted my mischievous kitten Miya from them about 5 years ago , she was found injured on the street by one of their Vet Techs and nursed her back to health. Even though shes a hard to handle cat, Mike (the one who found her) is able to handle her and get her nails clipped for me without much trouble. When I was finally able to adopt another dog after losing our first one, I adopted a puppy from NSAL . Dyson had his first visit to the Animal Medical Hospital they day after he was adopted just to make sure he was healthy. He got a clean bill of health from Dr. Wyler, who also told me at the time about a new program they have "life time free regular vaccines" , I decided to pay for the life time vaccines and its already paid for itself in the year since we adopted Dyson and will continue to save me money in the future, Dr. Wyler and his staff are more than happy to answer any questions you may have and will be more than happy to make suggestions and recommendations. If youre looking for a Veterinarian give them a try, you wont be sorry .

The doctors and staff at Animal Medical Hospital in Hempstead are as close as they come to miracle workers. I brought in a pit-bull that was completely lethargic and looked like she was on her death bed (the day before she was running around like a maniac). It was an emergency situation and they were just closing for the night, but the staff stayed late just for her and found a large tumor in her abdomen. The doctors made sure they did what they could to get her through the night and had me call if I needed anything. The next day I had an awful decision to make, but they talked me through all the options she had and what the outcomes might look like. I agreed to have her go through surgery and it turned out to be the right choice. She had a large mass that was removed and the lab tests revealed that is was a benign tumor. Shes now back to her normal self and acts like nothing happened. The staff treated her like she was their own and throughout the process they were always attentive and would checkup on her to see how she was doing. They literally went out of their way to help my dog and for that reason I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone with a pet.

My Jack Russell, Jackie, fell violently ill recently. He had uncontrollable nausea, shaking and in general was scared. I have never seen this dog show an ounce of fear or cry in pain in the 12 years he has been my dog. It was obvious there was something very wrong with him. The staff at the Animal Medical Hospital in Hempstead quickly diagnosed his problem as pancreatitis brought on by an intestinal blockage and his age. Surgery removed the blockage and medication relieved the pain. One week after the surgery Jackie was running around with the energy of a puppy again. My dog was reborn. I will be forever grateful of the care and attention he received at the Animal Medical Hospital. I was kept well informed and Jackie was well cared for. I was scared it was the end for Jackie, but Doug and his staff saved my dogs life.

I shopped around for a vet. I found Animal Medical Hospital by accident, and I will tell you it is not nearly as expensive as other full service Vets. They do care about the animals, and my animals are well taken care of. I can always get an appointment that suits my schedule. And the diagnosis is always right on. So with regard to the Walletectomy review, If you do not drive, that would be your problem, not the Vets problem. And of course they need to see the animal! "You" as the owner are not qualified to diagnose your pet (because if you were, you would not need a Vet in the first place). If the Vet was to take the owners word on what the owner "thinks" is wrong with a pet and the pet dies whos fault would that be... So use your head before you write review without thinking about your actions first.
