I apologize for the wall of text in advance, but people need to read this before going to this office. Today I had the misfortune of going to the Doctors Express in Cherrydale at 3213 North Pleasantburg Drive. From the very start, it was an unpleasant experience. The buildings entrance has no walls, just giant windows. Facing the sun. In South Carolina. I went in at about 1:30pm and it felt like it was 80+ degrees in there. I cannot imagine being sick during the summer being in a room like that. Next, I filled out my information and gave it back to the nurse, who informed me that I had to pay $20. I have reached my maximum out of pocket with my insurance, meaning I no longer have to pay a co-pay, my insurance is paying 100% of the bill until January. The nurse who collected my money had no idea what this meant, and Im not just trying to sound like an @$$, she straight up said, "I dont really get it myself." Next was the triage where I had my vitals taken and was asked preliminary questions about my past medical health. Now, heres the thing, Im a recovering drug addict, but guess what? Even we have medical problems. I have a disease of the back called Ankylosing Spondylitis, and I had a flare up so bad today that I couldnt breathe. So I came here. The entire time she was asking me questions, she never broke eye contact with her computer screen. She listened to about half of what I said, and at one point asked me, "Do you have a family history?" I waited a good 3-4 seconds for her to finish the question before responding, "I *have* a family," and she just continued on like that was an acceptable answer. Then, she asked me what medicines I am on currently and told her all of them, including a medicine called Suboxone which is prescribed to me by a doctor at the rehab facility I went to. She apparently ignored that and another medicine I told her, and wrapped things up and lead me into the exam room. The doctor came in promptly, which was good, I guess, but then things turned awful, very quickly. Now, I was in a lot of pain, and I could hardly speak because it hurt so bad. The doctor, whose name is a wild misnomer, Dr. Sunshine, spent all of 2 or 3 minutes examining my back and shining a light in my eyes. The rest of the time spent was him giving me the third degree, because he was clearly suspicious of trying to scam narcotics. His tone was extremely accusatory and incredulous the entire time, even going so far as to claim I was lying about having a doctor for my Crohns Disease because I couldnt remember his name off the top of my head. Ive seen him once, and his name is Russian, sue me. He continued on, accusing me of lying about my medical history, and told me that the only medication I had given them was Zoloft, when, in fact, that was the only medication the nurse bothered to list. He tried to goad me into telling him about my group therapy meetings, because he has an iPad with my entire medical history on it. He asked me if he wanted me to send a letter to ALL OF MY OTHER DOCTORS telling them about this visit. A visit to the urgent care for a back problem. What was he even getting at? That the people at the rehab facility need to see that I was attempting to get a prescription of Prednisone from an urgent care doctor? A medicine that is non-abusive in every respect? Then, without telling me what he had even prescribed me, he told me he sent the prescriptions to my pharmacy and that was it. When I finally got to my pharmacy, I found out that he had prescribed my Naproxen and Cyclobenzaprine. Two medications I cannot take because they upset my Crohns Disease, give me horrible stomach cramps, and make me feel like vomiting. So, and sorry for the WALL of text, to wrap it up - I went into a sweltering hot office, was ignored by my nurse, and the doctor neglected to actually treat what I had went in there for because he was suspicious of me, and because the nurse didnt bother with doing any aspect of her job right. Nice going, Doctor Sunshine. Class act.

If I could give them less than one star, I would. The nurse practitioner, Shannon Sozzi was COMPLETELY unprofessional. My wife had an asthma attack earlier in the morning, but we declined to go to the ER because we cant afford that right now, the way our finances are. Thats why we were at an urgent care. Ms Sozzi, rather than discuss what medical treatment she could provide, lectured my still hard-of-breathing wife on how she should have gone to the ER instead. We mentioned we cant afford it (not like thats her business), and she continued to lay into my wife, telling her she could apply for assistance at the ER, that she could pay what she could, etc. For one, my wife has been to the ER before, applied for assistance before, and did not qualify. For two, THIS IS NOT THE PAS JOB. We went there for medical care, not a lecture on what she thinks we should have done hours earlier. That time has passed, lets focus on right now. When I griped that this isnt a conversation that needs to happen now, just treat my wife please, she got even more agitated, called a nurse in, barked some orders at her, and stormed off. We never saw her again. The orders included a pile of prescriptions, none of which were explained, Prednisone shots (another issue here in a minute), an albuterol treatment, and a referral to an allergist and her primary care doctor. The albuterol treatment DID help. Thats the only worthwhile point of this visit. The Prednisone shot? That means she cant see the allergist for a minimum of 7 days (actual appointment of the 25th), which the allergists office said the PA should have known - why order a treatment that conflicts with a referral??? The allergists office could have seen my wife TODAY, if not for Ms Sozzis malpractice. To cap it off, the nurse (whose name I didnt get) said that she contacted my wifes primary care provider, and they said they had appointments available for today. She ALSO said that they said theyd tried to call my wife three times and got no answer. I had to calm down my wife at that point, because she was so frustrated with the whole visit, and her doctors office had NOT tried to call her. This was verified by the same girl at the doctors office that the nurse spoke to. Why is your nurse lying?? My wife was shaking with frustration and crying by the time we left. This was an awful visit all around, and unnecessarily so. The PA showed a level of unprofessionalism that I have NEVER encountered in a medical facility, and while she was mostly more helpful than the PA, I am baffled by her lying at the end. We will never be returning to this facility, and will recommend the same to anyone who will listen. My wife deserves an apology from both of these women, which I doubt shell ever receive. Honestly, I think they shouldnt be employed there, but Im skeptical that would happen.

My BBB report...I entered their office in the worst pain I have ever experienced in life. It was my first bout with kidney stones and had no idea what to expect. It was ALL I could do to drive to this facility. I sat in the exam room in excruciating pain for 30 minutes before the doctor finally came in and agreed it was kidney stones. Even though there wasnt any type of proof because I could not take a urine test at that time. The doctor then wrote a prescription for what I now know was antibiotics instead of pain meds that the doctor said he was giving me. I got in my car in horrible pain and found a way to drive myself home hoping the sample pills the Doctor gave me at his office (which he told me would help with the pain) would kick in and give some relief. I NOW know (because I had to head to the emergency room) that the doctor gave NOTHING for pain. The ER toke me in right away and gave me something for pain and were puzzled why this urgent care place never gave any thing for pain or at the very least referred me to the ER. Im not sure if this facility was trying to guard against patients coming in just to get pain meds or what but thats how this situation was treated! I wouldnt even be filing this report if it were not the WORST pain I have EVER encountered for FIVE SOLID HOURS! Doctor or no doctor nobody gets to make a call on the level of someones pain unless there is testing to validate such a foolish decision! I want this facility to refund my money or I will look into hiring an attorney until they admit their miscalculation!
