Gotham Veterinary is an extraordinary resource for pets and their owners in NYC. Bonnie Brown VMD founded Gotham – a state of the art facility – in 2009 after 20 years of working in veterinary medicine in New York. The facility is impeccably maintained – eat off the floor clean. The front office staff and technicians are calm, helpful and friendly. I also appreciate that they always check with the medical staff regarding questions and follow-through with the answers. Our story with Dr. Bonnie Brown: I met Bonnie Brown when she was making a house call for a friend’s senior golden retriever with mobility issues. I was immediately impressed with her compassion, thorough care, and willingness to go the extra mile. My puppy, a Cavalier King Charles named “Fiona,” and I began to see Dr. Brown as Fiona’s primary care vet. For the past almost fifteen years, I found the care that Fiona received from Dr. Brown to meet all of our needs and surpass any of my expectations. I appreciated her moderate approach to wellness care – consistently high level but without excessive vaccinations. When things went wrong, whether it was a simple “in discriminatory dietary choice” (i.e. she snagged something on street when I was looking the other way), or an injury requiring an orthopedic specialist for a disc issue, Dr. Brown was always immediately responsive with the right treatment, or a direct connection to an accomplished specialist. At one point, Fiona had an irregular blood test result which was concerning. Dr. Brown consulted a research scientist and discovered that the condition which could have caused excessive bleeding in many breeds did not have the same effect in Cavaliers – a little known fact. Talk about using all of the tools in her kit to find the right answers for each animal she treats! The last year was difficult for my senior girl, with increasing mobility issues. After neurological testing, it was determined that she has a progressive spinal fluid issue. There was no real medical treatment that seemed appropriate for a dog of her age. Initially Dr. Brown helped me with common sense suggestions to make our apartment a more manageable environment. An example: yoga mats to provide traction. As time went on she monitored her health to be sure that she was as comfortable as possible and suggested various mobility aids. When the end came, on May 13th 2014, there was no one that I would have wanted to take my little sidekick on her final journey than Dr. Bonnie Brown. She was, as always, professional, clear, capable, caring - and compassionate to us both. We were all together for the final time - "Team Fiona." I can not recommend Gotham Veterinary and Dr. Bonnie Brown, more highly.

Weve been going to Gotham Vet Center for years and I honestly think its gone downhill. Were definitely thinking of changing veterinary clinics, and thats a shame because weve actually had generally great experiences with the vets themselves. Dr. Ward was our vet for awhile and she was wonderful and our current vet is also very good. But there have been multiple mistakes made on the part of the support staff (front desk and vet techs) that leave us feeling worried about the quality of care we are receiving. As an example: We once brought our dog in for a vaccine and asked that her anal glands be squeezed and her nails be trimmed while she was there. The vet tech brought her back out to us and we asked if there were any precautions we needed to take or any signs we needed to watch out for regarding the vaccination. The vet tech then brought our dog to the back room saying they forgot to take her temperature. It was obvious they forgot to actually administer the vaccine, which was the reason for the appointment. Our dog has had multiple procedures done there. On most occasions weve been given pain killers and antibiotics. But one time, they only gave us painkillers. Considering its been the same procedure on 3 different occasions, its clear they forgot to prescribe antibiotics after one of them, which is worrisome. There have been multiple billing mistakes (including a rather large mistake) that weve had to rectify. The support staff take a long time to submit claims to pet insurance and we constantly have to follow up, which means our reimbursements for expensive procedures take a long time to come. And, the front desk staff (some of them - not all of them) are often quite rude (theres one woman in particular...). We havent wanted to bite the bullet and make the switch because we do like the veterinarians, but after multiple occurrences like the ones Ive noted above, I dont think we can feel confident continuing to bring our dog there.

Gotham vet center are a bunch of incompetent scam artists. They dont remember you or your pet, their receptionist is rude and bad at his job. Ive been a customer since 2012 and it has gotten so bad in the last year, I am done. You sit on hold for at least 10 minutes every time you call, only to be rushed off and not given important details about your pets care that might be life threatening. For instance, I was not informed that a vaccine my dog needed would not go into effect until he gets another booster 3 weeks later, making the prospect of taking him on vacation with me this weekend one that is potentially life threatening as he will now not be protected against the prevalent danger of Lyme disease where we are going. If the useless, rude, incompetent receptionist had taken more than 30 seconds to talk to me, I might have been able to find that out but since he is SO busy, I am now facing this situation. This same gentleman has tried to sell me the wrong flea and heart worm medication so many times that I went to 1800 pet meds, and it took a combined effort of theirs and mine over the course of 4 days to fill my prescription. He even lied to me and told me nothing had come in when 1800petmeds sent me copies of the multiple faxes they sent to Gotham. This man is single-handedly destroying your practice, and has officially lost you another customer today- a lucrative 3 pet household. I knew Gotham was a busy place, but I have never felt this underserved and this overlooked on such basic customer service. Im going to take my pets somewhere that will actually care for them. Im just glad Im making that decision now before my pets are very old and in need of more advanced care.

Our experience here has been amazing. They deserve more than 5 stars. At the beginning we were a little nervous with all the testing that was needed for our little maltese dog, now we understand that all that was done was necessary in order to be able to help her. Dr. Carbonell was very helpful and patient with me, going over every detail so I can understand what is going on. We have not met anyone like Patricia; her passion for animal dentistry is amazing!!! I am so glad I read the reviews and decided to take Snowy to this veterinary (from NJ to NY). They spayed Snowy due to an infection in her uterus and cured her periodontal disease, she was suffering a lot due to an infection in her gums and tongue besides other issues in her mouth and thanks to them she is a happy dog now. During surgery, Dr. Carbonell, Dwight and Patricia called me to update me on how Snowy was doing; it was great because we were very anxious. After surgery, they gave me more updates and Patricia sent me pictures and videos of Snowys progress. We knew every detail during the few days she was there. Dwight also worked with me in the financial side; he was very understanding and helpful, going out of his way to help. Im glad we chose them to take care of Snowy. I dont think anyone could have done a better job. If your pet has major dental issues, please see Patricia, she is simply the best! Thank you all for your help, love and for pampering Snowy every minute she was there. We have all the before surgery photos of Snowys mouth and teeth. It was great to finally understand what she was going through. Great people to work with.
