I am an eye doctor, and I send my daughter to Dr. Horowitz. Doctors are very selective to whom we send our family, especially immediate family. Traditionally, it is never wise to examine our own kids because we cannot be totally clinical and detached. Also, a child is far less likely to allow daddy to perform certain eye tests instead of another doctor. Dr. Horowitz was the choice for my daughters care because I came to him on an emergency basis some years back with what turned out to be an easily treatable corneal problem. I found his professional demeanor very calming and sure-footed. He never hesitated in the slightest to perform all the necessary tests to get to the diagnosis. He left no stone un-turned. My daughter was born with numerous anxiety problems that preclude her from seeing anyone but the most caring and confident clinicians. From the pre-testing staff to the front desk folks to Dr. Horowitz himself, we could not have made a better choice for our eyecare. So, when MY patients ask me which eye doctor I go to - I have no hesitation in mentioning Dr. Horowitz. And you shouldnt hesistate either.

The office is pretty crowded and seems chaotic, but the doctors are very friendly. I first went with my younger brother, and sat with him during his examination & liked the doctor so much that I decided to go back for my own checkup. The doctor was very kind, and when he noticed my disappointment about finding out I have astigmatism (meaning I may not be able to get a military job, a plan of mine), he sat with me and discussed possible options and calmed my nerves. He even offered to write a letter stating the level of my astigmatism should not be a problem, and even searched the militarys site to see their requirements. I was not pressured into buying new glasses (as my prescription would only be changed slightly & so it was really unnecessary) even though my current ones are over a year old and leaking glue. Most places try to give you a run for your money, this place didnt. Also I like the second little waiting room with the TV constantly playing things that have to do with eye care, occasionally its some funny game show type of scene which is entertaining.

I always highly recommend South Shore Eye Care. The staff is wonderful!! My daughter went for 6 months of vision therapy when she was 7 & improved greatly. When there seemed to be another problem she was recommended to see someone for an evaluation to see if she had a learning disability. She was found to have dyslexia. Because of the time & care my daughter received she was sent to the right place to help improve her reading & is doing very well. She is now 11 years old & our whole family goes for exams every year. Everyone was so friendly from the moment we walk in the door until we walked out. The staff is wonderful. The staff are all knowledgeable, professional and courteous. Dr.Alla Zlatino was excellent. The visit was very thorough. She was very patient and attentive.I highly recommend her as an eye doctor.

The optometrists are good (i.e. Dr. Horowitz). However, the opticians are disappointing. Two years ago they gave me used frames and tried to pass them off as new. This year I asked for scratch resistance on my eyeglasses, then after waiting a hour just to pick them up, I found out that they did not get it done. The funny part is that the optician didnt even know that it was a coating that needs to be applied to the lenses.
