This may get a bit long, but I have a story to tell. We have been taking our cats to Southtowns Animal hospital for over 9 years. She had always been healthy until last Sunday when she suddenly started crying out in pain and would cower away from her food. Monday(8/31/15) afternoon I called Southtowns and took her in to be checked under the care of Dr. Bradac. After a plethora of tests (blood work, x-rays and a urine analysis) it was speculated that my cat had a urinary tract infection. While I was skeptical as to why this has caused her to scream and cower away from her food, I am not a qualified veterinarian so off we went back home with antibiotics and an over $500 bill! Upon returning home my cat refused to eat, drink, continued to cry, was no longer “eliminating” of any kind and not using one of her back legs. On Wednesday(9/2/15), I called the office again and my husband took the cat back in. While there it was discussed that due to a heart murmur she may have a blood clot that traveled to her leg which is why she wasn’t using the leg. My husband was given many options as to how to treat the blood clot, including euthanasia. Due to our young children, we decided to give her a fighting chance. She stayed at the hospital for IV fluids in hopes of breaking up the clot. Later in the day Dr. Bradac called my husband before she went home and retracted her diagnosis and decided that without a doubt the cat was constipated!! I almost euthanized my cat because she was constipated?? Again, we took the cat home with more meds ($180 pain med this time), prescription soft food and another $400 bill. On Friday the vet did call to check on the cat and suggested an enema which we just couldnt justify. Today, (Saturday 9/5/15) the cat continued to not eat, only laid under the bed, was still not using her back leg, and hadn’t gone to the bathroom since being at the vet on Wed. I called the vet to see if there was another doctor available for another opinion because I just couldn’t shake that the cat wasn’t simply constipated. I was strongly encouraged to go to Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center because Southtowns closed at 1:00 and they were just going to refer us to OP anyway. Again, we packed up an anxious, limp cat and off my husband went with hopes that a second opinion would give us answers. With tears in my eyes, I looked at my girls and thought what do I tell them if my husband doesn’t call with good news. At Orchard Park Vet the staff was amazingly attentive, used her lab work from Southtowns and determined there was absolute no way this cat was constipated! Her bowels were completely empty!! It was determined that she somehow had injured her leg and was resting to heal herself. Thankfully we brought all her prescriptions with us to show the vet if needed. We found out then that she no longer needed the antibiotic because there was no urinary tract infection and the pain meds were prescribed almost four times the necessary dosage!!! While feeling relieved that the cat is receiving the proper care, my husband came home with not only the appropriate knowledge of medicating the cat, but also feelings of anger and resentment at Dr. Bradac who cared for our family pet inappropriately. Since returning home a few hours ago and not being over medicated our cat has come out from under the bed and is interested in eating her non-prescription food. Needless to say we will not be returning to Southtowns Animal Hospital. I’m so happy our cat seems to be on the mend I can’t help but thinking our $1,100 bill could have been cut it half with a proper diagnosis from a better suited veterinarian. The staff at Southtowns are very nice and polite, but their vets leave something to be desired.

Never had a major issue here, they were always fairly nice. Customer service is not their strength though. I was a veterinary technician for many years in CT, so I know this type of environment well. They are extremely expensive and will do anything they can to tac on extra charges. Dr. Tricia Bradsc was especially frustrating to me. I had to tell her several times about certain issues and she still forgot to address them and I left my appointment with no answers to certain concerns. I couldnt afford the $587 estimate they gave me, so I felt like she lost interest in me and pretty much didnt finish her appointment. She was supposed to come back and discuss and give me medication for my dog because he has anxiety when he travels. She never came back. They gave me, so I felt like she lost interest in me and pretty much didnt finish her appointment. She was supposed to come back and discuss and give me medication for my dog because he has anxiety when he travels. She never came back. She kept telling me she was going to do certain test, without asking me, so when they came back with the estimate I was overwhelmed with how much it was going to cost. She was very inconsiderate to my situation. I later had to talk with the manager of the hospital due to a charge I received that I wasnt aware of. She was a bit snooty and I didnt feel like arguing with her so I just said goodbye. Im moving out of state, but if I wasnt, I would never return to this hospital again.

I cannot express my discontent with southtowns small animal hospital. I am broken hearted and my cat is no longer with me. She was diagnosed with feline asthma, charged aver $400 and were given a prescription of meds to treat it. After a week, no change. Another visit, another $400, another change in meds and a still no change. After a third visit, another $400 or more dollars and a referral to Orchard Park Veterinary Hospital, my cat is dead. After $2000, No one at either facility could properly diagnose her issue. She had no prior medical conditions and was a house cat her entire life. If you want to live with killing your pet unnecessarily, then take them there. If not, find a properly trained staff and Veterinary doctor. To this day, we still dont know what was wrong with her and with the holiday weekend, could not find another vet in time to rescue her. Money hungry facility that is not properly trained. Stay away. Thats all I have to say.

Had my cat spayed here. Was 100 dollars cheaper than what they wanted to charge me in Orchard Park and the cat must have been treated well because she acted like shed just come back from a trip to the park rather than surgery. I only met the vet briefly but he struck me as knowledgeable and compassionate.

Friendly staff and very accommodating. Unfortunately they try to push sedation and extra meds when it isnt necessary. It sounds like a way for them to make more of a profit, but that is up for debate.

They were able to see our sick cat the same day we called. They were very knowledgeable in their treatment and not overpriced. I highly recommend their services.
