Wish I Had taken our dog there sooner! We have a cavalier king charles named Max who was attacked by a pitbull on 11/28/09 being a saturday I scanned the phone book to find a vet open to get him to right away. We ended up taking him to Mayfield Vet Clinic. Maxs front right leg was broken in two.. a high break..very close to the elbow joint.. The clinic put his cast on ..took it off after only a week.. put it back on.. talked about amputing his leg...we went through 8 weeks of weekly visits to the vet and had already racked up a $300 bill for a whole lot of nothing! Max got a secondary bacterial infection and the Vet clinic said.."well if he doesnt chew his own leg off..maybe it will heal itself....if not we have to amputate." and they sent us home..no medications..no nothing! I was very unsettled about this! The following morning I looked in the yellow pages to find a vet close to home that did surgeries and things other than just vaccinations & deworming. I took to max in that morning to see Dr. Johnson at lakeland. He was very kind and concerned about maxs leg..I explained maxs whole situation and Dr. Johnson said..the first thing to do is to get rid of this infection..he put max on an Antibiotic.. an antibacterial foot soak, and something for pain & inflamation which Mayfield didnt even give poor max! We went back in a week and Maxs infection had healed! Now it came time to address the broken leg again.. Dr johnson said because of the length of time it had been since the break that it would be a 50/50 chance that he could operate & give max more function in his leg. He explained everything so well..told me he could put pins & a rod in his leg or we can opt to just leave the leg the way it was..just limp and hanging.. because he was not in any pain and DR. Johnson said he had no doubt he will lead a long happy life if we opt not to do the surgery. Had Dr. Johnson had max from the very start there was no issue of if the leg could be repaired or not. The surgery would be a $400 surgery and dr. johnson was in no way pushy to have it done.. he said it was very skeptical because of the amount of time that has passed..he told me to think it over and if thats what I wanted to let them know. Dr johnson addressed every question or best case & worst case scenerio possible! So after thinking it over our family decided it was worth a shot.. even if the surgery only made his leg 50% effective it was still better than a limp hanging unuseable leg. I called Dr Johnson one more time before scheduling Maxs surgery and he was happy to answer questions he had already answered before. I asked him if we did the surgery could it cause max to be worse off than he was now. He said no, that the worse thing is that it doesnt work and we have to remove it... so with that I scheduled maxs surgery. He went in on Monday morning and came home Tuesday afternoon. When I went to Pick max up the ladies at the front desk were so helpful..as they always have been.. and Dr. Johnson was just grinning ear to ear..delighted with maxs results.. he was just tickled pink and his enthusiam showed! It was so comforting and exciting to know that YEAH..we did the right thing..this just might work! Dr Johnson told us he couldnt believe when he went in this morning max was trying to put some weight on the leg! We have a long haul still ahead but not for one second would I ever think twice about taking any of our pets to Dr. Johnson. Hes a wonderful man and he cares.. he doesnt try to talk you in to anything you dont need. Im very very pleased with everyone at Lakeland Animal Hospital! I think max will only get better as time goes on and I thank Mr. Johnson so much for actually giving us hope when all mayfield kept saying is amputate!

My cat got sick just as we were leaving Florida to return home. The local vet there would not even return my calls. In a panic I called Lakeland and Dr Johnson immediately got on the phone to tell what to do until we could get back home to see him. He and his staff are wonderful!!

Been taking our pets to Doc Johnson for years. We moved to Illinois and still took our pets to them. We had to have our beloved dog put down and Doc Johnson had tears in his eyes the same as us. Very compassionate and really cares.

Dr. Johnson was very thorough and compassionate in the care of my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Years ago, he also performed surgery on our German Shepherds back hips and she is 10 now and still running around like a puppy!

Very nice staff. I felt a bit rushed with the vet and didnt get to ask as many questions as I would have liked to. But whatever he did made my dog better so thats all that matters to me.
