I went to Levin Eyecare in Belvedere Square Market today. It was my first appointment with this practice and I will not be returning. There were a number of odd things the doctor did and said that seemed very different from my other doctor experiences. For example, she did not introduce herself to me so I never got her name, she criticized the advice of my previous doctors, and she said I needed to come back next week for a follow-up appointment (this was an annual exam and I did not understand the need for a second appointment). None of these issues were too concerning until, towards the end of my appointment, she asked me to leave the exam room to sit in the waiting room so she could see her next appointment and then would finish with me after that. Confused, I asked for clarification and she explained that I had taken so much time at the beginning of the appointment and she did not have time to finish with me until after the next patient was seen. To be clear, at the beginning of the appointment I spoke for fewer than 5 minutes about my history with contacts and my hopes that she could help solve a problem I had been having. I left the exam room and this is when the second issue arose. The person at the front desk said I owed $75. I made sure she remembered that I had insurance because I have never paid for an exam before with my eye insurance policy. She explained that while my exam was was covered the "contact fitting" was not. To ensure I felt like they had done their due diligence we called the insurance company on speaker phone. The agent explained that a contact fitting was not covered under my insurance. She went on to explain that I had likely not seen this charge before because most eye doctors do not submit a separate bill code to fit contacts. I was disappointment by this experience today and will not be able to recommend Levin Eyecare to anyone.
