We took our bird to see Dr. Bruce Levine at Aloha Pet and Bird Hospital. Before bringing your bird to Aloha, Id recommend you do your own Yelp search for Bruce Levine, DVM - it seems as if other pet owners have had similar experiences. Dr. Levine was very rough when manipulating our birds head to examine her. And when he went to grab the bird (who was perched on my mothers chest), he had no hesitation in making himself more than comfortable snatching the bird off of her. Dr. Levine, Id recommend that you first ask your clients to hand you the pet, rather than intruding on their personal space. The antibiotic that Dr. Levine prescribed our bird (Amikacin) left her with little to no motor skills. Shes not acting right, and its terribly sad to watch. Shes in worse condition than when we originally brought her to the office. Weve been bringing our bird to Aloha for years and we have had no issues in the past - until Dr. Levine is replaced, we wont be coming back. I cant speak for the other vets at the office. By the look of their reviews, they all seem great. This review is only in regards to our experience with Bruce Levine. UPDATE Took my bird to another vet (Dr. Motie) to get a second opinion, after she fell off her perch earlier today. This vet was able to give a diagnosis based on her behavior and his extensive experience, without asking to charge me hundreds of dollars on lab testing. Not only did this doctor have a caring bedside manner, but he also thoroughly explained her diagnosis and treatment options. Dr. Levine didnt do this - he wanted to perform lab testing on our bird (which we turned down due to the stress and expense). He didnt bother to observe her behavior, which would have led him to identify her problem as liver disease. Instead, he just prescribed Amikacin (in a syringe - try giving your tiny lovebird a shot...I can guarantee both you and your bird will walk away traumatized from that experience) and called it a day. If you treat your clients/patients right, it is easy to develop and foster a loyal and life long customer relationship. In time, your clients will end up spending a lot of money with the veterinarian because the owners care deeply about their pet. However, if the vet tries to squeeze out as much money as possible in the first visit, while showing no signs of compassion toward the pets condition and owners sentiments, then you will quickly lose your customers trust and business.

We brought our rabbit in to Aloha (Nov 12th 2015) which was recommended by the Eau Gallie Emergency hospital. They told us that she had puss in her uterus and just needed to be fixed. Told us it was a regular procedure and she would be fine after that. Originally wanted $2,000 to do it. We couldnt afford it so they "graciously" went down to $1,000. The other $200 is every time we went back they said we needed more medication or whatnot. We did also decline some services due to them wanting a couple hundred more to do them. After spending $1200 we felt as if they were just stringing us along. After the operation she had a strange crisp/rasp to her breathing. When brought up and taken back to the vet TWO times (Nov 16th and Nov19th), they dismissed it and said it was because she had a tube down her throat. My husband brought her in on November 21st to get her stitches out and they said she was fine even though she was still not moving around and being her usual self. On November 29th we took Christmas pictures with my kids and our rabbit. The very next day she was dead. 2 and a half weeks later she is dead after a "routine" surgery. Aloha had sent a letter asking "how they did", I replied and told them everything. Today I received a card back saying sorry about the loss of your pet. That to me is a slap in the face. I dont want or need their condolences. How about a reply to my letter and the circumstances? I feel Aloha did our rabbit a disservice. Instead of having it put down, they decided to make some money off it. Those last weeks were not a quality of life for her. If they care about animals (like they say they do) they wouldnt just keep them alive for a little longer and suffer. I would have much rather have spent money putting her down and not having her suffer then spending the money and watching her suffer and having my kids watch her go through that.

2 months ago I took my chicken Blue in, she was attacked by a hawk and we rushed there, nearly getting into a accident on the way. We ran in, and the lady at the front desk spent 5 MINUTES getting our name and contact information. She wasted SO much time on what was CLEARLY a emergency, asking "oh, and how do you spell that? Blu? or Blue?" I was ready to scream at her! another actually helpful employee and saw the situation, and rushed blue in to the ICU. They put her on oxygen, and pain killers. Then billed us 500 dollars. FOR DOING NEXT TO NOTHING. They sent us home with some ANTIBIOTICS, meanwhile blue was PANTING from damage done to her throat and neck, GASPING for air and they ignored it like it was nothing, and sent her home all smiles. The next morning, SHE DIED IN MY HOME. MY FAVORITE BEAUTIFUL BIRD IS DEAD. The staff at Aloha sent my chicken HOME in CRITICAL CONDITION, inciting she would make a FULL RECOVERY. I gave her her meds, I mashed up her food, I kept her hydrated, and I found her literally BELLY UP. With her beautiful legs splayed in the air. My kids LOVED this bird, yet they sent her home with MAJOR damage done that DR. PEPEN ignored. Then they called, and asked how she was doing. I replayed, "she died". The lady said "oh Im so sorry to hear that" and hung up on me. She just hanged up! A full MONTH later they sent a 25 cent "So sorry for your loss" card. This DR. PEPEN is the worst vet I have EVER been to. My beautiful Blue is dead. I dont blame them, I blame the hawk. I blame them for OVERCHARGING, SCAMMING ME INTO PAYING, and FAILING TO REALIZE THIS BIRD"S THROAT WAS DAMAGED. Do not go here. You will regret it. R.I.P Blue. I love you.

I have been bringing my three dogs here for years. If any of my dogs has a medical problem, the staff are nice and schedule them to be seen immediately. The staff are highly trained and always nice. I use to take my dogs to a nearby nonprofit veterinary clinic for annuals and dental cleanings. After a few years of watching each dog get pricked three to four times for blood to be drawn during an annual exam, I decided to also go to Aloha for routine services as well. I am not sure about "Lizs" experience. It is upsetting for me to see a person generalize that the rest of us dont know a good veterinarian (or what good vet care is). My dogs see Dr. Dan Pepen, but have seen four other veterinarians when they have had emergencies and he was off. I have not encountered any rude staff thus far, during the past five years. If anyone has had a negative experience, I would suggest following up with the office manager. To be honest, I dont know who that is..because I have never had a problem. I trust this facility more than I trust the local 24/7 animal hospital. Thanks for the staff for offering extended hours and being open six days a week. We appreciate it.
