We arrived at our appointment early. Since no one else was on time they took us right in. The vet tech arrived in the room and explained that the receptionist should have entered our dogs shot record into the system. The vet tech asked if our dog was neutered we stated that he was and his paper from the vet that neutered him was in his records that she NEVER even looked at and she proceeded to actually feel the dogs empty sac because she didnt believe he was neutered. Wow what a first impression! So we started talking about the health of our dog. Our dog was a rescue that we had rescued 6 weeks before this day. When we rescued him you could see every bone in his body. At this point he had put some weight on but I thought he should gain some more weight. The vet tech told us that our dog looked good she explained how since he is a GSD mix she liked them on the thin side so he didnt have any other medical issues like hip dysplasia etc. In our dogs records he had also had a 9 way distemper shot that was bought at central tractor and the vet tech told us those shots are only water and have no value. I was a little in shock. By this point we had no idea that a licensed vet would even come into the room. Well the vet tech took our dog out to test him for heart worms and parasites etc. She then brought him back into the room. After a few moments a vet appeared. The vet had told us the TOTAL OPPOSITE of what the vet tech said. He stated our dogs body condition was a 3 not a 5 like the vet tech had stated. He needed to gain weight just like I had expressed. The vet tech told us in 3 months to ween him to dog food and off puppy food and the vet told us to start him on dog food now because the puppy food is too rich for his system. The whole appt. was very displeasing. We will not be returning to them any time in the future. Apparently their vet tech thinks shes a vet and should watch her words before she speaks them. I have never been in a situation like that where there is so much opposition.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. We started going to Banfield because of friends had their pets on the Care plan @ a NY location and they said it was great. But that is how they sucker you. The plans are reasonable, but the services (if done without the plan) are almost double the cost of a Good veterinarian, for shoddy service. The Hagerstown facility is dirty: we observed that exam rooms are not disinfected before or after visits, and its hit or miss whether technicians wash their hands. Both of my EXCLUSIVELY indoor cats came back with fleas after a trip to Hagerstown Banfield. Our adult cat also had teeth cleaning services at Hagerstown, but came home with an allergic reaction from who knows what and very little appetite. A second opinion from a REPUTABLE vet showed the teeth were clean but two teeth were severely cracked with exposed roots - there was no information from Banfield about the damaged teeth. The Banfield doctors only defense was "the necessity of removing teeth is a matter of of opinion." But if the cat is miserable and wont eat, thats probably a damn good reason to extract the tooth. In one month we took our cats to 5 visits and each time there was something new wrong with them and we needed to return to get help. When we tried to cancel our care plan, they wouldnt cancel it because they already provided services... So I could keep them on the plan for the year (around $650 total) or pay off the outstanding price of the services, which were over $1200. This place is a scam. You are better off getting pet insurance through a separate company and going to a quality Veterinarian.

Took my rescued puppy to them a year ago, was told she needed $700 in work done ASAP. So they talked me into their "pet insurance" for one year. When I took her in to get her spayed, I was called and told my dog was "aggressive" and they would need to pre-sedate her to get her blood drawn. It cost me an extra $25 and my dog has NEVER been aggressive towards anyone including them including the many times she was seen by them before. When I picked her up they made me go get her from the kennel because they were scared of her (she is a mixed breed that weighs 30 lbs). She then formed an infection in her incision that they said was an allergic reaction and made me pay another $100 in meds. On her follow-up appointment they insisted that she be muzzled because she was a dangerous dog. WHAT??? When I refused to allow them to do this, I was told I was a bad dog owner etc. So I told them cancel my insurance and take my dog off file, she will NOT be back. They told me I was under contract till April and couldnt cancel. So I paid till April and she was being seen by another vet. I told them again in April to cancel the insurance and was told "ok". Now months later they are still charging and old CC for insurance she doesnt even have. I have had to contact their corporate company (whom is very nasty and hard to deal with) and argue with them, and now had to get my CC company involved to get my money back. I never liked their vets, never wanted their rude comments and canceled insurance I have been billed for for 18 months yet my dog hasnt been seen in almost a year. They are a JOKE!!!

Avoid at all costs!!! I was suckered into using this vet with a new puppy coupon book I purchased at the register. It came with a free vet exam. We were running 5 mins late due to traffic and gave a courtesy call to let them know. They said it was totally fine. We got there and had to stand in line for 10 mins to "sign in". The receptionist/vet tech was terribly rude to us. She said since we were 15 mins late the vet may not see us. I explained that we were technically only 5 mins late and stood in line and that we had also called ahead. She asked who we spoke with and I didnt know exactly. She implied that I didnt call at all and that she was the only one there. And argued with me about it. She then went back to talk to the vet and came back out and said that since we were so late, the vet couldnt see us today and could we come back a few hours later or reschedule. I said NO to both. We were already right there. The vet said it was cutting into his hour lunch break and he wasnt willing to sacrifice his lunch to see our dog. We loaded 2 young boys and drove 20 mins for this vet apt and didnt even get to see a vet. Motorified at how I was spoken too and treated. Even more upset that my dog didnt get to see the vet and get vaccinated. I tried to complain to pet smart and they said they have nothing to do with the animal hospital whatsoever. This vet apt ended up costing us $19.99 since we bought the coupon book. We will be returning to our regular vet who cares about animals.
