Well... Neglect is the key word. I had a stroke, and they did figure out it was due to poisoning, but they did nothing else. They did not feed me or give me water, except one totally inappropriate box lunch for a stroke victim thrown at me because I was screaming that my blood sugar was crashing at 48 hours into being there. They thought I would choke. I had to sneak water from the sink when they werent looking. They had an IV in the whole time, and could have given me fluids/glucose but they refused but didnt say why. I was left in me in the emergency room for 24 plus hours, until I went to the to the neurology floor. The neurology floor nurses say they will check with the doctors and get back to you on every question or request, but they never ever did. I usually take 2700mg of gabapentine a day because I have autoimmune problems that can cause excruciating nerve pain. They begrudgingly gave me a total of only 800mg the almost 3 days I was there. In fact, the only gave me one baby aspirin and one shot of heparin to treat the stroke the whole time. They did not do anything for what they were sure was poisoning with organofosphates. They acted confused when I repeatedly asked if they had done any toxin screenings to nail down the poison or to see if it was still in my system - they acted like didnt really know that tox screenings existed, even though they have a toxicology department that saw me in the ER. They guessed organofosphates but I didnt feel compelled to do any tests for some reason. When the floor doctor (with students in tow) finally did show, she spoke to me like a slow child until I started telling every nurse that I was feeling very unsafe. It was then that a wonderful and brave student who had been on rounds snuck back in to me. She felt horrible that they had treated me that way and she told me what they were thinking about my case in the "back room." She was the only person who spoke to me like an adult. She was the only person who spoke to me in complete sentences. God bless her. So they figured out that I had a stroke due to poisoning, nothing else, in almost 3 days being there. I could have done just as well or even a lot better if I just stayed home. I fast tracked myself home, and just before I escaped, the actual doctor assigned to my case showed up. He was fine for the two minutes he could spare with me. So... Pretty much a Mexican prison with occasional doctor visits. Next time I have a medical emergency maybe I will try Brigham and womans.

Most of the staff is very helpful. But i had 2 bad experences with 2 RNs in the sameday. I came in with 4 broken bones in my leg. When in the e.r. my farther asked them if i could bring in my thc/cbd edibles i have my med card. The nurse ask the doctor he said no problem. So i ate edibles in front of x-ray technician, many nurses and they all agreed it would help with pain, sleep and nerves. So my bad day starts the morning before i leave. I was underprescribed and literally crying the morning after surgery. When i asked the nurse what she could do for my pain? she said nothing i had wait then yelled "what do you expect me to do for you" walking out. So luckly i noticed the nurse managers phone # on the white board. I called as soon as i told her what happened she seemed appuled. Within 20 min i had fast acting stonger IV meds, plus the long lasting strong pill meds. I got slow service from that nurse for the rest of her shift. I would page and wait and wait. But my roommate who had a different nurse never had 2 ask for anything she was there with his med w/o even having 2 ask wtf. My second issue happened that night. The nurse gave me my meds and i ate an edible (after nurse left this time). Finally pain releif. I got 2hr sleep to add to my total of 4 hrs in more than 2 days. Nurse then woke me up for tylenol. Shortly after she came in asking if i smoked i said no because i had not. I immediately told her i had a edible that she somehow smelt. I told her i would eat it. She said she couldnt let me she said she was "by the book" and "follows protocol" She then proceded to get backup 5-6 nurses and doctors 3 security guards to seach my stuff. I had already ate my last piece so nothing was found. Now i cant sleep and losing valulabe rehab rest. Just VERY SAD. PAIN SUCKS. just my experience was bad the last day with select people everyone else was great. Even the food wasnt bad. But the actions of the 2 rns that day was completely unprofesional in one case. The other was completely uncalled for and unnecessary. Sorry 4 spelling typos in advance.

Gastroenterologist Doctor Sheth didnt care to give me a gastic emptying test after I complained about fatigue and about water sloshing around my stomach for hours (he said its probably just in my intestine, but I knew it wasnt), so i had to ask his very understanding, kind, and caring fellow doctor, who was working under him, Dr Robert Gianotti, over email, for that test which of course came back with severe gastroparesis of over 4+ hours to empty. Doctor Sheth also was not too friendly at all and will almost argue with you, he was not easy to talk to. So I fired him, and will be getting a new Gastroenterologist. Too bad Dr. Gianotti wasnt a full gastroenterologist yet because he was awesome to talk to. Also prior to this gastro study, I had to ask for stool fat test from Primary Care Doctor Ethan Brackett at Fenway Health, that he would not have ordered, since the visits prior to that, I had major intestinal issues and told him and another doctor there that I had steathorrea, yet every visit he wouldnt order any test if I didnt ask so I had to really push him on it. The stool fat test came back abnormal of course, and thats when i got referral to Gastroenterologist Dr. Sheth. You really have to be an advocate for yourself and sometimes play Doctor by educating yourself, because many doctors just view you as there job, like objects on an assembly line and yes, they are highly educated and know how to memorize and regurgitate, but they dont use critical thinking skills, and when they dont know answers they just love to not believe you or say its all in your head, because that cant be disproven. I live in this body so I can tell when Im sure about something. None of these tests would have been performed had I not requested them myself. Its bad when you have to play Doctor because your Doctor couldnt care less about symptoms that they cant figure out, so they just assume its all in your head or they just ignore your complaint and dont believe it

Upon having an echocardiogram performed, the technologist just blew me away casually asking what my favorite music was. I said " you would not have it" he said oh com on, trust me! To my surprise not only did he have Frank Sinatra, he had him in a concert live from 1959!! He was absolutely, without a doubt, the funniest tech I ever had. Finding FINALLY my heart issues after all 7 years, makes him a great technologist!! He found problems with my heart that were missed elsewhere (all 12 ECHOCARDIOGRAMS over the course of an 18 year span! I am scheduled for heart surgery from what I am told, is to save my life. I feel others that treat the patients stoicley, have HIGHER MISSED DIAGNOSIS than the very entertaining way that TIM Gs electrofying performance was. I felt not only did I have the Top Gun of cardiac Ultrasonographers, but I felt like singing along throughout the entitre test! It was like MUSICAL-MEDICAL-COMIDY ECHOCARDIOGRAM. The rest of the staff at BIDMC-Shapiro building were very helpful, except one. She first sent me to the ?West Campus, but I ended going back to Shapiro. And thank GOD I did!! Otherwise, I would not have had TIM G as my life saver...and a great comic/song and dance man to put my SHATTERED NERVES in check. Before I knew it he was done, and he found the missing piece to the puzzle in which I never would lasted but 2-3 months! With his years of doing echocardiograms, he pinned it down in just under 5 minutes!! And took another 25 to complete. He did not rush like all the techs that I have had over the years. He truly is a 10 out of 10 in my book! Thank you BETH ISREAL for having the integrity for hiring him, and of course TIM G! He is new there and they need to do whatever it takes to keep him there! This is what is missing in medicine today. Well qualified people that know what they are doing...the very first time out!!!!
