Whoever says that healthcare in the US is no.1 in the world and this hospital is one of the example, then its wrong. Dont bother yourself to even go. Going to this hospital has degraded my expectation of the US on every level. So i have this problem with my eye and come there to the emergency department to get it checked. Note that i need to pay the co-pay to whatever insurance i had for $150, which is fine, i need to be checked anyway. I went there, get examine, got my blood taken and the doctor told me to follow up in two weeks. Also, she just told me this problem "is just happen" and "wait for the lab result" (i have to ask first). The medication that they prescribed doesnt really work so i called few days later to check if i can go back anyway sooner, they told me the lab result hasnt come out yet and then its pointless to comeback because they cant diagnose anyway. So i try to calm down and take the medication per usual. Its been a week, my eyes doesnt got better and i called again, now they told me to just comeback to the ER room, but without lab result, its gonna be just like the same thing ($150 for the same thing, explain me that). Also, because tomorrow is thanksgiving so i might probably not able to get the maximum treatment (another discouraging and counter-narrative idea, because they still telling me to come!). I TOLD THEM ITS FINE, I CAN JUST PAY FOR WHATEVER THE COST IS AS LONG AS THEY HAVE THE LAB RESULT BECAUSE MY EYES IS HURTING AND I NEED TO GET RID OF WHATEVER THIS IS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, JUST PLEASE, GET IT DONE SOON. But all i got is a scheduled follow up visit which is in MORE THAN TWO WEEKS!! This ended up left me with 2 choices: comeback without lab result for $150 or come on scheduled date, but only Gods know hows my eyes gonna be at that time. Seems like they dont really bother if i get any emergency condition with my eye or not, though. Just get here, hand us $150 for nothing or just wait until your eyes gets severe for your scheduled date. At this point i just regretting come to the US and accepting the scholarship from the state department to study here if only i knew its gonna happen. It wasnt the first time that i have this problem, but in my third-world developing country, i always recovered in less than 5 days. Also, i never wait for more than 2 weeks for my lab result, ever. I just dont understand that the self-proclaimed the best healthcare in the US (or the world) take 2 weeks for a lab result and doesnt come up with any alternative during the waiting period. God bless America.

[Edit to this review at bottom.] I am sitting in the waiting room of Mass Eye & Ear at this moment and feel compelled to write. If I was judging MEEI based on quality healthcare alone, they would receive an "excellent" rating. A year ago I had a detached retina and they repaired the retina through surgery and am now seeing 100%. Incredible results and Dr. Eliot is phenomenal. Based on customer service, MEEI is as bad as it gets. When I have an appointment at 1pm, Im never out until 6pm. Once I was here until 8pm. I arrived today and they had no record of my appointment. Now they are "squeezing me in" which is sure to mean Im here until well after dark. I wish I understood what drives the long waits at MEEI. Do they not use support staff effectively to move patients along? Do they schedule too many appointments in a single day (likely). Are there too few patient rooms to increase throughput? Whats more, when I had surgery a year ago the information they sent me home with was so totally inadequate that I ended up relying on Google for my post-op care. Seriously? They must do the type of surgery I had about 10 times per day. Why on earth can they not develop better patient instructions??? What I do know is that its painfully frustrating to be a patient at MEEI. I will continue to come here because the level of expertise is unmatched. But the experience of being a patient at MEEI is miserable. By the way, Iive 15 minutes away. Consider how those who live an hour + away and how they feel!! [Edit a year later: Ive now had two appointments in a row that ran relatively smoothly. In and out in approximately 3 hours, which is a huge improvement. So I pushed the score up from 3 to 4.]

The idiots ALMOST KILLED MY MOTHER. Let me explain: We came in for a routine CAT scan because my mother had been experiencing strange pains around her neck (one side of the neck was very tender and she had accompanying sharp pains on the lower left quadrant of her head.) The doctor, understandably of course, was worried that a tumor or some sort of benign mass was the cause. Cue to CAT scan. We come in, get situated, then they ask about allergies, yadda yadda, the usual. Then comes the use of a dye. Apparently, it is possible for patients to have an allergic reaction to said dye. While my mother was in the machine, the technicians were talking softly in the back among themselves saying, "Oh, she might have a mild (mild? severe? what difference does it make?!?) allergic reaction to the dye. But if something happens, shes in the right place. Turns out, she was allergic to the dye. Within seconds, she could feel her heartbeat accelerating at a dangerous, possibly lethal rate, in addition to a blood pressure reading of 200/100. She exclaimed loudly for them to take the dye out, and they did. So, after the near-death fiasco, they just gave us a card stating shes allergic to the dye and sent us off as if nothing happened. Now, they want us to pay $1200?! I would absolutely avoid this joke of a clinic and would sue if I had the money or a strong case. But these buffoons most likely have a team of scumbag lawyers willing to defend their every whim. Ridiculous and unprofessional. Have never seen such an outright case of medical malpractice in my entire life.

this place is a definition of failure. my first visit was the their ER. I had a sensitivity to light and vaso vagal reaction when the doctor dilated my eyes and approached the microscope to take a look... she was confused and didnt know what happen and later on I heard her say to a colleague of hers that I was there to just nap!!! yes, who leave their comfy home and drive in freezing ice cold to just come to an exam room to nap!!! I was really devastated... couple months later I came to their cornea service and I had couple incidents! the front desk was the rudest meanest person I ever met.. refused to get me an appointment to see one of the doctors.. I had to call and complain to get one, and when I did and I had to schedule the surgery ... I had a tough time to get the damn front desk to answer the phone. finally she made the appointment... they postponed my surgery and she didnt even bother to call and notify me... and went there thinking that I have a surgery... to only find out I wasnt on their list... and when I confronted her she denied the whole thing! I left crying since I turned a job opportunity down and left a class thinking that I have a surgery... the only doctor who does his job right is doctor scott greenstein... he was straight to the point and helpful all the way, but unfortunately he doent do surgeries ... he only give second opinions... I say stay away and save yourself from their cornea service!!!
