To whom it may concern: My name is Laurie A. Gawelko, M.S., and own a Service Dog training company in San Antonio, TX. My family personally owns four dogs, and just lost an older cat. We have been regular clients of St. Francis of Assisi Veterinary Medical Center at 8615 Potranco Road, SA, TX 78251 for over 4 years. Being a dog trainer, I fully researched all local veterinarians before deciding on St. Francis. I have never for a minute regretted that decision. Mr. Vicente Chan, Jr., the Hospital Manager, is the kindest, most compassionate and competent hospital manager I have ever met. When a client walks into the hospital, they can easily tell from the joyful aura exhibited by ALL the front desk staff and the impeccably well-kempt waiting room that this is a tremendously safe, comforting place to take their pets. All the doctors there – Dr. Bauml, Dr. Holub, Dr. Ruiz, and Dr. Muisquiz have consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty taking care of not only our family pets over the years, but I send each and every Service Dog client I have to St. Francis (most of whom who see Dr. Muisquiz) because I have unwavering faith in the fact that my clients and their dogs will receive the best possible medical care – not only physically, but compassionately. Every client that goes there instantly falls in love with the staff, Mr. Chan, and the veterinarian they work with. I have literally never, ever had a negative response from the over 25 people I have referred to this hospital. I could go on forever about how much St. Francis does to help the community and their dogs. As a trainer and behaviorist and former veterinary technician, I am absolutely scrupulous about who I choose for my veterinary care and who I recommend for my clients. St. Francis of Assisi VMC is, without a doubt, the best there is. I hope you can commend them on their incredible work. Every single doctor there is exceptional - not only with veterinary knowledge, but they have compassion and kindness. The manager, Vincent, is as wonderful as they come. Every single dog I have ever brought there or recommended there has received care above and beyond the norm. I would NEVER go anywhere else - even if I moved to Alaska!!! :) Oh - and I forgot to mention the staff. The receptionists are the friendliest, most wonderful people. And the vet techs - SO kind and gentle!!! I LOVE ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI and we are forever indebted to them for taking care of our pets and the pets of those we love!!! Most sincerely, Laurie A. I have 5 dogs and recently moved to the SA area from Houston. Ive only been to this vet a few times - once to have health exams for two of my newly adopted dogs, the second time for vaccinations for my other three, and a third time for surgery on my oldest one - but I have never had anything but a positive experience here. At my previous vet in Houston they did most everything to my animals there in the exam room with me there. I do not like it when the animals are taken "in the back" for nail trims, blood tests, whatever. I want my dogs to be there in the same room with me when anything like that needs to be done and I told this to the folks at St. Francis. They understood and complied with my request, and I appreciated that. Yes vet care and bills can be unpredictable and unexpected. But we hardly ever go to the vet when our animals are healthy, we mostly only go when theyre not well. My advice to everyone is to ask questions and ask about options. These are good folks and I will be back (tomorrow actually)! Thanks!

Very nice staff and vets/techs. We went there once 10 minutes before they were closing and was treated just like any other person. Was not rushed, vets took there time to explain and take care of our dogs. They were not trying to hurry up so we can leave. We take all 4 dogs here because they seem to really care about the dogs they are looking over and explain everything to us. One thing Im not to happy about is the price just for visiting, its a bit much in my opinion. The prices other then that are pretty fair I guess, not super expensive but wouldnt mind seeing them go down to save more money. The last thing Im not happy about is the loyalty rewards they have. Its 1 hole punch per transaction over $100. After 16 or so punches you get a $100 credit. So pretty much you can spend 200, 300, 400 etc and still only get 1 punch. I mean it is something but would love to see it change to 1 punch per $100 you spend. But still overall this vet is a great place for my dogs.

I only give it an extra star because the Drs are very professional and helpful but I will never come back to this place again. Prices are sky high, dog had a little irritation on his paw and ended up spending over $300. Realized I got charged a wrong price and told the front desk, had two options, credit towards next visit or a check sent to me over mail, decided to get check sent to me was told to wait 4-6 weeks this was back in June waited 6 weeks on the dot. I told the receptionist about the situation told me I had to wait a few more days for the office manager and today I called and was told i got a credit towards my account and no check was to be sent to me. Excuse me but I never agreed to that option and I waited for over a month to be told that no check was sent to me, unacceptable, and now I have to wait about another week to get a check mailed to me. I am never coming here again every time I make an appointment I end up waiting almost 30 min to be called in.

‘I have had to put two cats to sleep - St. Francis vet clinic took care of the process. Everyone is friendly and extremely caring about what we as "pet parents" go through. Dr. Ruiz sent me a sympathy card after losing my last cat: he is such an amazing and caring person! I recently adopted a kitten and now he, too has Dr. Ruiz as his physician. My last visit was for the last of my three senior cats, Sammie (Samantha). She had a UTI and kidney problems that I was unaware of. She, too received excellent care and is now comfortable at home on a new diet. I wouldnt think of taking my pets anywhere else unless I absolutely had to. Thank you to the entire staff at St. Francis for being so amazing!’

Dr. Ruiz and his nurse were very very helpful for us first time pet owners, they calmly and thoroughly explained everything we needed to do to get our dogs properly registered and vaccinated and even provided an itemized list of all available shots and procedures so that we could pick what best fit our budget down to the cent. I found the front desk to be extremely courteous and the other customers were a delight to be around. Im glad I chose St. Francis as my first Vet. Thanks to them, we will be curing our rescue of heart-worm. I would definitely recommend this Veterinary for those seeking a polite, engaging, and positive environment where you really see the love for your pets.
