Visiting from Florida for an extended weekend and became ill with strep or what I though might be the flu. Thought I would be ok for the flight home but could barely move the morning of my flight back. Plane was leaving at 3:30pm so I thought I could visit the clinic in the morning get diagnosed, treated and then get going. Arrived at the clinic around 10:30am, registered and then waited about 30 minutes to be seen by the nurse. Spent about 10 minutes with the nurse to give her information and explain my situation with the flight home, fear of flu, etc. Was told to return to the waiting room and wait for the doctor. Well I waited and waited and waited. As I watched the clock I wondered just how long this would actually take and if I was going to miss my flight. I was called back in to see the doctor by another nurse a full 70 minutes after I had returned to the waiting room. I then waited in the exam room 10 minutes before the doctor finally made an appearance. He asked a few questions, did a quick exam and took some throat cultures. I explained to him I was traveling and needed to catch a flight home that afternoon, hoping since he thought it was strep and most likely not the flu he could at least start me on some antibiotics. He said he would call me with the strep results and if they were positive give me a prescription then. He did presribe some lidocain (?) for the throat pain. I asked if he could call a pharmacy in Florida after finding out the results so I could have medication when I returned home. He said he would try. He spent about 15 minutes with me. I then waited for yet another nurse to give me the final paperwork and to tell me that they could not call an out of state pharmacy. I would have to go to my doctor in Florida to get a prescription. So after wasting more than 2 hours at the clinic and spending over $300 dollars for the visit I got nothing but a prescription for a pain killer. Not really what I needed or was hoping for. Since I needed to get to the airport, return the rental car and check baggage I did not have time to fill the script. At that point I just wanted to get home not matter how I felt. Luckily I was able to catch the plane home. At home I went to the walk-in clinic near me and within 30 minutes was in and out the door with a script for the antibiotics I needed, and it only cost me $89. Also it has been two weeks since my visit on 5/17 to Mount Auburn and I still have not received a call about my strep results. I have received more bills though, bringing the total up to $305 for now.

This review is for the Travel Clinic (part of the Walk-in Clinic). The actual doctors visit was ok. She spent about 15min with my husband and I and asked many questions regarding the destination etc. We got the shots fine. HOWEVER, their billing SUCKS. They charged us both for a doctors visit independently even though the doctor saw us together, therefore spent much less time than she would have if we went independently. The travel clinic seems to be a money-making department for Mt Auburn, so they actively discouraged us to even go through our insurance saying that they wont cover it anyways. This was a trick on their end because just by submitting the claim to insurance (even if the claim was not covered), we saved hundreds of dollars - the bill drops to allowable charge, not to the full amount charged by the hospital, which they did not tell us. The billing department even offered us a discount if we pay right away without submitting to insurance. After we declined that and the bill was submitted to our insurance company, the claim was declined several times due to billing errors from the hospital. We spent multiple hours on conference calls with the insurance company and the hospital on the line. Complete waste of time. I would never go back to their travel clinic because of this nightmare.

I am the manager of a live-in facility for disabled adults and have taken many residents to their emergency room before. Just last night I took one of my residents, Jack to the ER because he had gotten dizzy and fallen in his room. The ER staff were very attentive and quick to answer any questions we both had. They also took the time to explain everything to Jack who does have Cerebral Palsy as well as mild developmental delays. Jack was very comfortable with the staff and felt like he could talk to them without feeling nervous or scared. They ended up having to admit Jack to the hospital, and again made him feel very safe and comfortable during his transition from the ER to his room. My only complaint was how long it took from the time Jack came into the ER and then was admitted. He arrived by ambulance at 5:00PM and was not brought up to his room until 1:00AM. However, it was very busy when he arrived and I understand that because Jack was not in any serious distress he was not a priority.

Avoid Mount Auburn Hospital if you can! I went there in February because of a fracture. Had to deal with a lot of bureaucracy and a doctor that couldnt even pay attention to the basic information on my file (and almost sent me to get an unnecessary second x-ray because of that). After receiving the bill in March, I asked my insurance to send a referral to the hospital. Although my insurance has sent the referral multiple times to Mount Auburn Hospital, they deny having ever received it. In July I got a notice from a debt collecting agency. I contacted Mount Auburn Hospital myself to try to solve the problem, but they refused to even write down the referral number. The staff were rude and had the nerve of telling me this was all my fault - so I should deal with the debt collecting agency. Long story short, I went in with a fracture and got out with a months-long headache.

The clinic visit went fine - I went in for a blockage in my ear and the medical staff members that treated me were all very pleasant and helpful. The problem that came up later, however, had to do with the method of billing the hospital uses. They billed the physicians services during my visit as a "hospital charge" rather than a "doctor charge" so that it wouldnt be covered by my insurance and I would be responsible for the charges. When I called my insurance company to find out why I was being billed on top of the copay that I already paid, they informed me that this was not a typical practice of hospitals and that Mount Auburn was refusing to change the type of billing so that they could essentially collect twice - once from my insurance and once from me. This is very upsetting and I will not visit the hospital again or recommend it in the future.

YOU HAVE TO COME HERE!! If you need surgery...you need to have it here! I just cant explain in words how grateful I am for this hospital and its staff but I will try. Talk about kind, generous, caring, a great blessing to my soul; these are the qualities that were exemplified by the staff here. I had stent surgery for my birthday and the nurses came in with a cake (shhh) and sang to me...I cried I was so happy! Thank you to Maria my favorite nurse of all time! I had another stent put in in 2009 and its still going strong! Just had a little heart monitor (and I mean tiny) glued to my chest for a week called a Zio Wireless Patch wow it was so great and they could see what was going on with my heart in the hospital after I pressed the button! Amazing! The Zir Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory is the best...bar none!
