One In A Million
After seeing multiple specialists from here to Grand Rapids, all I could get was a diagnosis of low back pain and mentally ill. Ive never had a medical or mental problem a day in my life. I continued to deteriorate physically, from an EXTREMELY physically active person who did boot camp, kick boxing, 5Ks to less than a year later needing a cane to walk and being in extreme pain. I suffered for an entire year and prepared myself to succumb to whatever this was before the end of 2015 because I KNEW something was wrong with me. I was convinced by a former colleague to go to Dr. Landan and after much protest I did. He had me diagnosed with a condition that is classified in the National Organization of Rare Diseases that only 150 people have been diagnosed with since 1960, and only one in a million are afflicted with. This diagnosis usually takes 7-15 years to be diagnosed because patients are deemed mentally ill and by this time they are debilitated and bedridden, and Dr. Landan diagnosed me in 15 minutes and had it lab confirmed within 24 hours. So I guess I am truly One in A Million. Now I have a treatment plan and hope. Ive known Dr. Landan for many years professionally and I know what people say about his bedside manner, but because of him, I wont need to be in a bed and I am on my way to a full recovery! I give God all the glory because that is where it belongs, but I have total respect for Dr. Landan and in my book, he is ace. I had several specialists who were very nice and pleasant and sweet, and did not hear a word I said. Left to them, I would be either dead or debilitated. In other words, I needed Dr. Landan to hear my problem and he did. He did not stroke my hair, no... But I did not need my hair stroked, I needed to know what was wrong and he precisely diagnosed me. That is my experience. Some describe him as arrogant and everyone perceives personalities how they feel so I wont dismiss your feelings, but I perceived a man who loves a challenge, thrives on them and gets answers! I did get him to laugh... a little!

Dont expect a sugar coated experience. He tells it like it is. Thats fine by me, I want the truth without the fluff. Heres the problem, heres the solution. Yes, hes arrogant. But dont you want a little arrogance with your doctor? Id rather have a doctor confident in his solution. Thats the reassurance factor. Doesnt mean he is always right, no doctor is. It probably helps that my epilepsy is under control. Focus on the best person to get you the results you need, not the personality of them. You dont have to like the guy to get solutions. Ive got no problem with him though.

This guy was a complete jerk. I agree that he is very arrogant and doesnt listen at all. He also prescribed my husband depakote which I had read you should have a blood test done before taking because it can cause severe liver problems. We asked him about it and he blew up on us saying he didnt need a blood test and it only caused liver damage to one in a million people...a few weeks later my husband was in the er and almost died. We never went back again and I would not recommend him to anyone. If your looking for a good neurologist I would recommend Dr. Gary Gurden, he is wonderful!
