Sadly, my two cats crossed The Rainbow Bridge in 2015, but with each visit over the last 5 years since moving back to this part of NH, my cats and I found Dr. MacDonald and his staff VERY accommodating, professional and warm-hearted. Pets well into their senior years can exhibit unlimited health issues - some familiar and some unusual. Dr. MacDonald acted quickly when he saw something serious and sent us to someone else when he didnt have the equipment needed to properly evaluate, rather than have me pay for tests that would be useless. He took his time teaching me how to give subcutaneous fluids so that that experience would be less stressful for the cats (and me) and gently helped them when it was time to say goodbye. While we dont want to let our pets go, the decision to do so was met with so much compassion from staff and even fellow pet owners that I never felt alone. Dr. MacDonald also recognized financial limitations and did his best to give options on what tests to run, the cost of those tests, and the benefits of doing them or the impact going one way or the other might have. Some tests may give you all sorts of good information, but if your pet is reaching the end of his life and its not feasible to perform major interventions, then what is the point? Sometimes, letting nature take its course is the best for you and your pet. Thank you Dr. MacDonald for supporting that ethic. Chip, Charcoal and I think (and thought) you were the best!

Update on 7/5/2016: Still 5 stars, but wanted to update since Dr. MacDonald has now hired a new vet to work beside him, Dr. Montminy. Naturally we wondered if our service with him would stand up to our stellar service with Dr. MacDonald, and it absolutely did. Dr. Montminy, like Dr. MacDonald, has an exceptionally confident and calm demeanor, explains everything thoroughly, listens well and respects both me and my cats. Their rates are still extremely reasonable as they always have been, and the reception staff is always awesome. ORIGINAL: My husband and I have been bringing out cats to Dr MacDonald since 2008. There are many vets in the area but as far as we are concerned Dr. MacDonald is the only one. He is very approachable and conversational and so easy to communicate with. I am very inquisitive and he always answers my questions straight-forwardly and honestly. The staff has incredibly high standards for follow-up, courteousness, and compassion. His prices are always fair because he doesnt insist on unnecessary tests and lab work and other extravagant fees that other vets charge. Even his supplies like food and supplements are very fairly priced. After seven years of many visits each year, we cant report ever having one experience that we didnt walk out feeling so grateful that we have a practice like his in our area.

I would definitely give it 5 stars. Everyone at MacDonald veterinarian services is very friendly. Dr. MacDonald is great. We live in CT. part time and NH. part time but no matter where we are if we need to bring our bunny two cats or our new puppy to the vet we go to MacDonald Veterinary Service. It is well worth the three and a half hour drive (when in Ct.) to get what we believe to be the best service possible for our four legged family. I would definitely recommend MacDonald veterinary services. We saw many vets before going here but could not find a vet that really new anything about bunnies never mind treat bunnies. So when we heard about Dr. MacDonald from a small local pet store in laconia we were so happy. They always work with us to get a appointment right away if needed. The staff is very knowledgable and can usually answer any questions we may have over the phone. We would drive a lot farther if we had to. The service is that good. Keep up the great work. Thank you so much for everything. The Mooneys

The 1st.time we took our dog there we were very happy and the price was reasonable. The next time we needed the flea and tic things and got a shot. It was during that visit the doctor looked into her mouth. We were told that her teeth are very bad. Also told us she is in pain.He likened it to that of when we get a pizza burn in our mouths. Her pain is constant. He said they will write us up an estimate for the work. There would be a high one and a low one. All depending on what needs to be done. The high one was over $1700.00, the low one was $700 and something. Left there over $200.00 out of pocket.Well 2 days later I was talking to my neighbor. We started discussing the dogs. Make a long story short. She was told the exact same thing about her dogs teeth! Right down to the pizza burn! So what is that all about? ?We wondered why if ourdogs teeth hurt that bad how does she eat the BIG bones? Something sounds fishy to me. Dont think we will be back there anytime soon ; neither will my neighbor. g

Our little boy Tanner (male yorkie) has been with Dr. Mac and staff since we brought him home at 10 weeks old, 8 years ago! We cant say enough positive and nice things about this practice and all who work there. We really feel deeply that they care for our little guy and have always treated him and us with kindness, gentleness and repect. They understand Tanni is our baby and and sometimes we are overly concerned over the smallest thing!! Having spent 14 1/2 yrs of our 1st four legged babies life with two other practices....We wish our little Scooter could have been with Dr. Mac and this practice. But the good thing is our little Tanner is. Please, dont hesitate a second if you need a new Vet!!! Dr. Mac, Dr. Montiny and staff is our confident and firm recommendation for any type or size of baby/pet you have! Tanners

I have 2 Bernese Mt. Dogs that Dr. Montminy had taken care of at his previous practice before he moved. I was so happy to hear he was back in town at MVS. Especially when Basil the 3.5yo ate a sock that ended up lodged in his intestines!! Dr. Montminy is very calming and patient, he is very methodically and informative. He always treats my dogs as if they were his own. His advice and treatment definitely helped to save Basil. (who ended up having ER surgery). We treat our dogs holistically and prefer to try "natural" treatment methods and Dr. Montminy always recommends a great balance of advice based on modern medicine with holistic methods as well that are minimally invasive. The staff at MVS was beyond helpful, calling to check on Basil and even sending in his insurance paperwork for me. 5 stars all the way!

I have been using MacDonald Veterinary Services for many years. Originally, we met him while racing sled dogs in Laconia, NH. That was sometime in the late 90s. When he opened his office, we started using him as our pets Vet. I had a dog that got staff infection and thought I would lose her, but he put my mind at ease and she is alive and well today. That was about seven years ago. He is compassionate about his work and you can see the love he has for animals. I also find he goes out of his way to accommodate his clients. He has Saturday hours which most Vets do not have. He makes himself available to his clients and their pets. I would recommend his services to everyone and in fact I do. I also find his rates very reasonable and his personnel are pleasant and caring.
