I was familiar with the Healing Arts Center from back when I used to attend yoga classes at the former Inner Bliss Yoga Studio, which was adjacent to the center, but I never knew much about the practitioners or the services offered. However, when I decided to look into acupuncture after experiencing amenorrhea for a good 6 months following cessation of oral contraception in the hopes of conceiving, I was pleasantly surprised to read of Steves impressive qualifications as well as his specialty in fertility issues. The initial consultation was extremely thorough and very representative of the whole-body approach---Steve wanted to try to tackle other health issues (e.g., gastrointestinal problems) that I was suffering from in addition to the amenorrhea that had brought me to the practice. I also appreciated his extremely professional and medical-oriented approach. Although I am a firm believer in complementary and alternative therapies, I know from friends experiences with other acupuncture and herbal practitioners that some practices can be a bit more on the fringe. It is clear that Steve applies the tenets of Traditional Chinese Medicine while still maintaining a very health care-oriented approach. He was always very knowledgeable when reviewing my laboratory results and also was able to provide good recommendations for conventional physicians when necessary. Pretty much as soon as I started the acupuncture sessions, there were signs of that my cycle might be returning. I continued with the sessions for several months, and Steve also added some herbal treatments. I kept experiencing irregular bleeding and was getting quite frustrated at times, but Steve was always very supportive. I looked forward to my appointments with him, particularly after dealing with a rather insensitive reproductive endocrinologist. I was still holding out hope that I would be able to conceive naturally (which the reproductive endocrinologist said was not likely), but my husband and I had to set a deadline of sorts, at which point we would then take the next step of medical ovulation induction (Clomid). Much to our surprise, we were overjoyed to learn that I was pregnant just a few weeks shy of our "deadline." However, I experienced irregular bleeding throughout the first trimester, which was of course very concerning. I continued seeing Steve weekly for treatments to support the pregnancy. At one point an obstetrician told me that I needed to take progesterone to avoid potentially losing the pregnancy (even though my progesterone levels werent dangerously low), but, again, I wanted to avoid taking any drugs and stick to the natural approach. I went with my gut instinct and can now happily report that I made it through the first trimester, and all of my ultrasounds and test results have been great so far. I have no doubt that the treatments I received from Steve contributed greatly to my ability to conceive naturally. I would recommend him to anyone with a medical condition that might benefit from acupuncture or herbal medicine but especially for women with fertility issues. Steve has an incredible amount of knowledge as well as compassion (which is desperately needed!) in this area. He is also very well known throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs by fellow acupuncturists as an authority in the field. The other practitioners and office staff at the Healing Arts Center are also great---you will not be disappointed!

I had previously seen an acupuncturist years before for IBS and figured trying again for the problems I was having couldnt hurt. I began seeing Steve after my second miscarriage. His immediate focus was not for me to try and get pregnant but to reset all my hormones after having been pregnant twice in the last 5 months. I noticed a difference immediately as my skin (which had been bad since I was pregnant the first time) immediately cleared up. Steve has been the best and most knowledgeable of all my "medical staff" and has helped guide me through 2 fertility doctors and 2 obs. He has told me the proper questions to ask when I didnt feel like I was making headway at my doctors office. I am happy to report that he successfully guided me through a full term pregnancy (and what I swear was a shorter labor as I started going back at 35 weeks!). I am 14 weeks with pregnancy #2 and the first thing I did when we decided we wanted to have another baby was to schedule my appointment. I saw Steve for the entire month before I got pregnant and for my first trimester. So far so good and once again, I noticed immediately a difference in my skin. He has also helped with other various ailments along the way, nausea, headaches, head colds, just to name a few. I am looking forward to seeing if going back at the end of my pregnancy will result in similar results with my labor. I will stop now as I could go on gushing about how wonderful Steve is all day. I have referred no less than 5 other patients of his over the last 2 years. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Amy. She is a wonderful asset to the Healing Arts Practice. She has taken such good care of us, helping with appointments, working with crazy schedules, and she always does it with a smile. She is one of those genuine people who you end up sharing probably too many details with because she is so inviting and caring.

I had always heard of acupuncture and the idea always interested me, but I didnt know if it would really do the job after all of the money and time that we had spent trying other methods and all of the stress that accumulated over time. After almost 3 years of trying to get pregnant with a diagnosis of unexplained infertility, I though to try it out after exhausting all other options except for IVF. With the help of Steve for several months and just one trip to my RE for one more try at an IUI, I found out that I am pregnant! Im due in 3 weeks with our first baby! Even after I found out that Im pregnant, I continued to visit through my first trimester, where they helped me to manage my frequent morning sickness! I cannot express how grateful I am to Steve, Amy, Matt and the whole staff at the Healing Arts Center for the gift that they have given my husband and I. I always boast about the great attention and care that was given to me, and the staff is very understanding and sensitive to every patients needs. On a side note, for those afraid of needles, theres no need since you do not feel a thing. On the contrary, my weekly visits were always very relaxing and a much needed break from the stresses of life. Acupuncture is also much more affordable than all other methods that we tried, even the ones that are covered by insurance (which most of us in the same situation know is very few). Hopefully, we wont need to go back for help with infertility, but if we do, I would not hesitate for a second to go back to my friends at the Healing Arts Center!

I didnt know much about acupuncture before going to Steve and the staff at the Healing Arts Center, but I had read a few articles that suggested that it could help with infertility problems. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for about a year with no success. About 3 months into trying, we started medical fertility treatments with a reproductive endocrinologist. After months of testing, medication and 3 IUI proceures, nothing worked - we had an official diagnosis of unexplained infertility. I started the acupuncture treatment and, within about six weeks, we conceived. I wish I had started sooner! Im now heading into my second trimester and am continuing with acupuncture to help with pregnancy symptoms. I can happily say that I feel great - the treatments have really helped with morning sickness in particular. Even better, the treatments are enjoyable and I look forward to going in. The office is well organized and pleasant to be in - very relaxing and nurturing - and Ive had great experiences with everyone at the Center, especially Amy and Steve. Deciding to start treatment was one of the best decisions Ive ever made!
