Even though this review notes a 1 star, it is NOT because of Dr. McKenzies medical practice. It is due to the incompetent staff at Alexandria Womencare. Dr. McKenzie is a kind, caring, and very knowledgeable OBGYN. I am comfortable with her and I have NOTHING negative to say about her. I am utterly frustrated and disgusted with her office staff. I have been a patient here for many years and the only reason I have not switched is because of Dr. McKenzie. Unfortunately, I have come to the end of the road with this office staff. I received wrong information via voice mail and when I called to see what it was pertaining to (freaked out and worried; btw), the nurse did not know what I was talking about. Long story short, after waiting on hold for over an hour with misinformation flowing, I was aghast! This staff has no respect for your time or exemplifies any urgency to address your concerns in a timely manner. I was just told to call back the next day as if that was going to help resolve the problem. They were rather nonchalant about the ordeal while I was concerned that something was wrong with my health. I decided to visit the office the next day so I could get some answers. After all, historically the voice mails I have left for the nurses have ALWAYS gone unanswered/returned. I have ALWAYS had to keep calling and sometimes I was told the nurse never received my message. I spoke with the young lady at the front desk who could not locate my MEDICAL RECORDS and she could not tell me who called me and left a message. The nurse could not tell me who left the message telling me to call and speak with her! She had no knowledge so that was unfair to her. Either way, still no answer, no chart, I dont know if something is wrong or if I need further testing. I am at this point, stressed out, wondering what the hell is going on with my body and still, nothing. Later in the day I was informed that my records were found and I received the information I needed to know, which thankfully, was not bad news after all. This however, does not excuse the way this matter was handled and "Im so sorry doesnt cut it". I have heard this far too often over the past years and I have come to the conclusion that I just dont need the stress. It doesnt matter who called, everyone is a representative of this private practice and equally accountable for misplacing personal identifiable information (PII). Not happy!

Now - I am very surprised after reading all these reviews. The staff this the staff that - Dr nice. Really, I guess everybody has to blame somebody.. But the truth of the matter is - IT IS NOT THE STAFF! The staff can only follow the direction of its employer. The staff in this office must have prior approval to call in prescriptions, they have to have a signature to give medical records, (which could take several weeks to get) everything in this office is micro-managed. Just think about it why do you think the office has such a big turn over - the office hours change because the doctor will change them at the last minute (how can we blame the staff for that) they are being paid to do a job so they follow the rules given. Now for the record! Staff treatment from the doctor is horrible and she treats the staff very badly. Now, as a former employee of this practice I felt it was important to state that most of the problem with prescription and call backs start with the doctors not giving authorization to do so. Just think about it! If the employer told you not to do something until they sign off and its 15 days to get approval to call in a refill request. What would you do?

Update: 1/6/10: theyre 3 weeks late getting me the results for my pap and couldnt answer my questions about what the results were. I was put on hold and then told I would recieve a call back, but still waiting. They have until this afternoon before I fire Dr. McKenzie and fine every possible to outlet to spead my numerous experiences of poor customer service....such as my appt in november: I called to confirm the time, the lady on the phone told me and then rudely hung up. I showed up for that time and it turns out it was for later that day. I am fed up with being mistreated and ignored when it comes to my health. Orginal: 10/09 For my wellness exam the 2nd year, she gave me the exam and didnt even gave me a moment to ask questions, including on the new bc she put me on. Her staff missed informing me that I needed a 2nd test until I found out from the pharmacy that the drs office wouldnt approve a refil on my bc. They were rude and inefficient and Im thankful I moved to another city so I can find a new doctor.

Although I like Dr. McKenzie and her staff very much as individuals, they do not manage the practice well. It is normal for me to wait 1-1.5 hour to be seen, even though I have an appointment. The staff DO NOT return calls, even for questions about prescriptions or urgent pregnancy issues. They do not follow-up on actions that they have told you they will such as obtaining lab results, writing letters for employers etc. Lately they all seem very rushed, behind schedule and rude. I spent 1.5 hour waiting to see the doctor for a routine OB visit. When she finally became available she rushed me through the appointment and pushed aside my questions and concerns. She failed to inform me of the results from my recent tests and did not ask about my health or situation. I have been with the practice for almost 2 years, but have had enough of the poor service and frustration.

Common people seriously? Why do you think her staff is horrible ...its because of the doctor. Dr. Mckenzie needs to change her ways and treat her patients with diginity and respect! No one should have to wait to get important test results 6 months later! or call the office a million times to have your medicine refilled and not have it done. Their so called nurse is a medical assistant and she does not like to call back patients...half the time she doesnt know what she is doing. The front desk person is always changed every month or so. She had one manager but now she is gone too. The story is never ending. Please do your research before visiting this office.

I know people say take the negative reviews with a grain of salt because only the negative people write them- well this review will be negative but 100 percent honest. Dr McKenzie, is nice, professional and seems to know what she is doing. Her staff on the other hand is absolutely the worst i have ever experienced. They are nice- and that is where the compliments end. I have never received a call back. They do not stick to their stated office hours. The voicemail box is often full. They schedule appointments when McKenzie cant show they forget to cancel with you. I would recommend absolutely avoid this doctor office.

Though I really like Dr. McKenzie, I nut real echo the other comments about the office staff. Oh the phone.. In person.. I couldnt imagine ever treating a person let alone patients the way they do. Rude. Last month, one of the staff was almost 2 hours late. Which made me 2 hours later than originally intended. When she walked in, not only did she seem to not care that this had effected others not make any apologies. I just called about a question and they are closed till after New Years that is over 3 weeks from now and I will not get anything answered or scheduled till then.
