Our 16 year old son has been going to Ashburn Psychological and Psychiatric Services for over 9 months. What a wonderful difference it has made not only in his life, but in our lives as well. Dr. Oberschneider has been counseling our son on the aspects of life that we often take for granted. Our son has been diagnosed with ASD (Aspergers Disorder). Dr. Oberschneider has helped him work on his social issues that accompany Aspergers Disorder, along with daily issues: for example hygiene, organization, and goal setting. By going to Ashburn Psychological and Psychiatric Services we were able to have our son tested by the practices top neuropsychologist to receive these definite findings. These tests were thorough and provided a great base line for Dr. Oberschneider and our son to hone in on counseling, making the most of each session. Ashburn Psychological and Psychiatric Services also provided us with a top psychiatrist to regulate our sons medication. The doctor communicates on a regular basis with Dr. Oberschneider to discuss the results and status of our sons therapy. We consider Ashburn Psychological and Psychiatric Services our "one stop shop" because they provide all aspects of psychology and not just therapy. We didnt need to spend hours researching to find different doctors who provide all of the services are son required. Ashburn Psychological and Psychiatric Services sees to it that you get the necessary services required so that each patient can live a successful and vital life, without running all over town. Ashburn Psychological and Psychiatric Services provided input and references for each doctor they recommended to us. All decisions were left up to my husband and me with no influence from anyone at the practice. Ashburn Psychological and Psychiatric Services has also done a wonderful job of putting my husband and me at ease by listening to our concerns before each session and including us in the entire decision making process. Most of all, since going to Dr. Oberschneider we have noticed that our son is becoming a conversationalist , is happier and has become more outgoing. He is no longer depressed and his schooling has improved greatly. We hate to think where our son would be today if we didnt have the help of Ashburn Psychological Services and Dr. Oberschneider. One thing is for sure, we wouldnt be the proud parents of a happy, well adjusted teenager that we are today. This practice has done so much for me and my family. My now ex-wife and I relocated to NOVA in 2009 from NYC. I had an amazing psychologist in NYC for my anxiety and depression but had little luck finding someone equally wonderful in NOVA. After seeing a number of bad to mediocre mental health professionals, my neighbor recommended Dr. Oberschneider. I started seeing "Dr. O" in 2010 with excellent results! What I like about this guy is that hes not only super smart and well trained and credentialed, but he doesnt just sit there and listen to you to say "see you next week." Hes an active listner and problem solver and he calls it like it is...even if hearing what he has to say is diffcult. Dr. O has seen me through some of the most difficult moments in my life including the loss of my two parents and my failed marriage. I see Dr. O now on a monthly basis to address lifes fine tuning moments, but hes essentially cured my anxiety and depression. Our educational advocate, Sharon Tropf, and Ashburn Pediatrics recommended Dr. Os practice for our son who was diagnosed with autism last year. Dr. Gordon, a neuropsychiatrist at the practice, did an amazingly comprehsive and accurate neuropsych evaluation for our son, that LCPS accepted. The school psychologist even said that Dr. Gordon is the best of the best when it comes to neuropsychs and to getting diagnoses right. We also see Dr. Joseph Novello at the practice for psychiatric care. "Dr. Joe" is also the best of the best, and we cant thank him enough for his support and care, including the late night calls and work with Dr. Gordon and Dr. O to get things right for me and my family. Dr. O most recently went the distance for me with a number of late night calls and weekend meetings in response to a family crisis. This review is a special thank you for all that you guys have done for us and for Dr. Os Herculian efforts and time over the past few weeks (most of which was free of charge!!!) to support me. Dr. O, My husband I wanted to take a moment out from our vacation to give you a 5 star review! This, as you know, has been a very painful and difficult year for our family, and we cant thank you enough for all that you did for Ethan and for us as a family. From attending school meetings. to late night calls and last minute appointments, you truly went the distance for us when we needed you most and it mattered. You are not only a great psychologist (as the many reviews here already reflect), but you are a very giving, sensitive and caring man with a huge heart. People in our community should know that when they see you they are not only getting a Washingtonian Magazine "Top Psychologist" but also a man who truly, truly cares about his patients. Thank you also for all of the connections you have made for us over the years with other professionals, both inside your office and outside your office. With Dr. Novello at the helm as our psychiatrist, Dr. Gordon as our neuropsychologist and you as our therapist, we finally have a team of the best of the best to get things right and our son is finally doing better. As you know, you brought tears to my eyes the other day when you said Ethan was ready for once monthly sessions. My husband loved your statement that, "children should go to therapy to live their lives, they shouldnt live their lives to go to therapy. Thank you also for helping us to put together a great summer plan for Ethan with therapeutic activities and camps. Now, back to our vacation and we will see you next month!

Through making referrals to the practice for an array of mental health services, I have had the pleasure of learning about their unique and collaborative approach to bettering the lives of families in the Ashburn and surrounding areas. Rather than a family seeking services from many specialty mental health providers, the Ashburn Psych team is comprised of a broad range of excellent mental health specialists under one roof. For instance, a family can come for a top-notch psychoeducational evaluation for their son and then seek ongoing therapy and related medication management all under one roof, making it very easy for these providers to collaborate for the betterment of the patient. Ive known Dr. Oberschneider and Ashburn Psychological and Psychiatric Services for over a decade, both personally and professionally. My son (now an adult) received services while struggling in middle school and the staff and doctors at APPS were extremely compassionate and supportive, including attending IEPs and providing strategies at school which helped him be more successful. I’ve also collaborated with Dr. O professionally for the campus and preschool I work for and have referred families to his practice, as the children, parents and community we serve truly benefit from our combined services.
