I waited to post my review of this establishment so I can be fair with my assessment. Two months since the incident I feel the need to warn prospective pet owners to stay away. I do not recommend this place due to its deceptive billing practices, lack of communication from the vets and unnecessary tests performed. We took our injured dog here for an emergency visit in January. The vet did some tests including x-rays. They gave us the cost and had us make the payment immediately. Thankfully our dog didnt need surgery. However the vet recommended that our dog stay overnight to monitor his progress. We agreed and paid the low end of the estimated bill. We said we didnt need the additional services listed on the high end. At this point we had paid almost $1000. This place charges you in stages as they proceed with the examination even though everything is done on the same day. To make matters worse, they keep adding services to the bill including stuff that you already paid for which made it confusing to figure out what exactly you have to pay currently. I believe this was done intentionally to overcharge clients and sneak in unnecessary services. The vets do not return calls timely. A simple thing such as getting our dog discharged turned into a nightmare. We called to confirm a pickup time in the morning as we had to go to work the next day. The vet we spoke to said hell have to check and call back. We waited for 4 hours and no call. It was 10pm and we called the office. The receptionist said they were extremely busy and cannot get hold of a vet. Eventually the vet called and said shell give us an update at 7am tomorrow. No surprise the next morning there was no call and we couldnt get hold of the vet when we called them. We didnt speak to the vet until 10am. This was ridiculous. When we arrived to the office to pick up our dog, the receptionist informed us we had to pay hundreds of dollars more. We explained that we did not ask for additional tests and she said they were listed on the high end of the estimate so they were authorized to perform them. They forced us to wait and discuss the bill for an hour. They did not bring our dog or let us see the vet during this time. Not until we paid the outstanding charges did the vet finally meet with us. Moral of the story is that we will not be returning to this place. They are all about squeezing as much money from you as possible. Im so disgusted by their behavior that I am questioning their diagnosis. I have taken my dog to another vet to confirm his condition. I do not trust this place and have wasted so much money getting subpar service.

Was referred to VERG South on Flatbush Ave on 7/24/15 as an emergency because my dog had a partial blockage of his urethra and bladder stones. VERG was unable to remove the bladder stones or unclog my dogs urethra. Furthermore, I had to wait for an hour for my dog to even be seen by a vet. As it turns out, VERG did not have a surgeon on duty that night in order to perform the nessessary procedures (a cystotomy and a urethrotomy). I was charged for (and paid) over $650 for this procedure and was then referred to their other location to have the surgery performed. When I called to book the surgery at the other VERG location, they wanted to charge me another $150 just to bring my dog in for a consultation. Other veterinarians in NYC were able to give me a price estimate for this surgery over the phone and even email. As a side note, on 7/26/15 I asked to discuss this procedure with the head veterinarian. I was told that she would call me back later in the week. She ended up called me over a month later to discuss my concerns. Needless to say, I would NOT recommend taking your pet here.

My cat got sick and it was already after 10 pm, so I had to go to the closest Vet Clinic, which is VERG SOUTH. We got there a little before 11 pm. Had to wait like an hour to see the vet. Finally, somewhere around midnight we saw the vet, she is very pleasant and knowledgeable young lade, the tech lady is very nice as well, considering that my cat is not very friendly. Everything was going well, so I decided to pay the bill while my cat was in the back going thru all the tests and x-rays. In a little while tech lady came back with my cat and said that they couldnt do one of the tests, so I had to get a refund. After that we were told that we were being discharged. WE HAD TO WAIT 2 HOURS BEFORE WE GOT DISCHARGED!!!!! And then we had to wait to get a refund. How ridicules is that. People who came after us were discharged before us. WHAT THE .....?!!!!! I had to scream and yell for them to hurry up. I am very upset and very disappointed in the service that was provided.

When my dog Linus first came to Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group, he was already a shadow of the vibrant, happy Papillon he once was. But with months of attentive care by Dr. Clarke and vet tech Suzie, Linus bounced back, even though he was diagnosed with a life-threatening disease. He had ups and downs—and I called and visited often in a panic—and found the entire staff to be patient and friendly every step of the way. Sadly, Linus lost his battle to his disease last Friday, living a full 8 months after his initial diagnosis, thanks to Dr. Clarkes expertise and advisement. She is a WONDERFUL, patient doctor whose kindness meant the world to us. It was one of the most difficult things weve ever had to do, and everyone at VERG was incredibly genuine and guided us through the process. Thank you for making it easy on us, and thank you even more for making Linus transition a peaceful one. I highly recommend VERG and Dr. Clarke.

Last night the staff at the VERG saved my dogs life. We got to the VERG at 2:30 in the morning with a dog that needed intubation and fluid drained from her chest cavity. Everyone from the front desk staff, to doctor (Dr. Lamb), nurse, tech, were extremely professional, pleasant, helpful. Unfortunately I dont remember the names of the other staff, but they were phenomenal as well. My dog was treated (intubated, bilateral thoracentesis) and discharged in about 2 hours! That is amazing. I will always return to the VERG with my pets Thank you VERG!

About 10 years ago, I euthanized my cat at VERG North. Today I had the same procedure at VERG South. In both instances, a decade apart, the staff here showed the most caring and compassion imaginable. The whole procedure was very respectful to us as well as our pet. They gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye, the option to be in the room for the final moments, and enough time to compose ourselves. All in all I think this is a professional practice, with staff that know how to take care of their patients.

To the idiot above who was gripping about VERG not seeing your cat!! Obviously the first two places you took your cat did not know what they were doing and robbed you of your money. That is why you tried to bring it to the hospital. Its an EMERGENCY hospital, do you think they have time to sit and hear about how come you cant pay? I do not work for VERG but i know they have a fantastic staff there and they work very hard everyday and ALWAYS put their patients first!!!
