If you can, avoid Dr. Van de Mark. I disliked him. Thats putting it nicely. Went for a follow up for my dog and he charged me knowing it was a follow-up appointment for a swab. He was too much of a coward to come talk to us about the charge but held his ground via the lady at the front desk that a $45 ear swab absolutely needed to be charged even though they normally dont charge for it if its a follow up appointment. The lady at the front said that. "He could have charged you $62 instead of $45." Are you joking? The point is Ive seen many good vets at Rhinebeck, but he was not one of them. There are some vets that go into veterinary medicine to help animals, and then there are some that do it for the money. You want to trust the ones that do it for the money much less with your pet. Oh and he put a dirty otoscope into my dogs other clean ear--after he looked at her left infected ear, he placed it in her other non-problematic ear. My dog screamed when he took a swab. 0/10 for bedside manner. She had a swab 2 weeks ago with Dr. Weckesser and didnt scream at all. Dr. Porter is also great--10/10. She is wonderful on every level. Dr. Tumolo is also excellent. By the way, I was already paying at least $150 for meds. Not to mention paying $51 on top of that for a "re-check" appointment instead of a follow-up appointment, which is what I scheduled. I dont know who scheduled it as a "re-check" but Dr. Van de Mark doesnt care if its supposed to be a follow-up. The guy who scheduled the appointment should also be called out for messing up his one job. The point is: DO NOT SEE DR VAN DE MARK. For what its worth, I think this a terrible way to treat someone who comes here with all of his companions. I have not yet decided if Im going to search for a new local vet. UPDATE: I have spoken to the hospital and they were understanding of the issue. As Ive said, all of the other vets are great. They are working on being more upfront about costs, and that is all I could hope for with regards to this issue. They also said that under certain circumstances they still may charge for a procedure during a follow up. That is fine, but I was being also charged for the re-check. I wish I would have been informed beforehand. There was a lot of confusion that day. Ive gone here many times and been very satisfied with the care of my pets--this one experience was an exception and was corrected. 4 stars for all of the other great experiences.

They are by far the best hospital I have been to anywhere in the NY area. They may be more expensive as opposed t0 other veterinary, but you get what you pay for. They are caring, they are cost concious if you have a hard time, and they offer options and work with you. They saved my dogs life when the emergency hospital didnt properly diagnose it, and they follow up everytime. They are always busy because they are a wonderful place. They support you to be a good pet parent without telling you what to do or what to buy. My dog and family are very lucky to have them. We loved Dr. B, but she is now gone. Dr. Weckesser is even more awesome and so happy to have her as our new go to doc. From the front desk to the techs..they all care very much and no one seems to be there for a job, but for the love of pets. My dog trusts them fully and so do I.

Rhinebeck Animal Hospital I have to say is outstanding. I had come to them after many many years at another Vet, and I have to say it was the best decision I had made in years. The quality of care is excellent, the staff are great and there prices are very affordable. My previous vet was super expensive and gave me a very poor quality of care. I live over an hour away from the clinic, but I dont care, they are so good that they are worth the effort to get there. Take your loved and cherished pets to them, you will be so glad that you did. Good luck finding a better vet in the hudson valley better then them. 7 stars would be a more appropriate rating for them.

Dont ever bring your beloved bird to Dr.VanDemark!! My bird just died after being told yesterday that she had too much medication and was just a little tipsy. I was concerned that she was in pain and was dying. He said, "No, shes just a little drunk." Less than 24 hours later she is dead and suffered needlessly. Never mind that the medication was prescribed by him and given exactly according to his orders! He never tested for an underlying cause to her symptoms, he probably killed her by overdosing her medication, and he couldnt tell that she was in obvious pain. I find this to be complete Incompetence! Dont EVER bring your beloved birds to him.

We highly recommend Rhinebeck Animal Hospital and their staff. Our dog, Willie, and cat, Sophie, are frequent visitors: its like a home-from-home for our critters. We have complete confidence in the vets and support staff who treat our pets as if they were their own. Especially our dog, who looks forward to his visits at the Hospital. Since we travel a lot, Willie spends a fair amount of time at the Hospital, boarding, and he considers it like his personal spa and social scene! We would not hesitate to promote the Rhinebeck Animal Hospital as a caring, highly professional, friendly and effective one-stop service for your loved animals.

I wouldn’t consider bringing my dogs anywhere else. Not only is the pet care second to none, there customer service unsurpassed!! I truly feel every time I’m there that me and my pets are genuinely cared for. I’m happy to say neither of my dogs “fear” going to the vet. From a small business owners standpoint there isn’t a thing about my experiences I would change. Not to speak for Madison and Melody, my sheepdog and shorthaired pointers, but I’d have to say they’d agree. I have 100% confidence in leaving my pets in there very capable hands, which hasn’t been the case with other veterinarians I’ve dealt with.

At the Hospital, loving concern for animals is consistently combined with the highest level of skilled medical attention. I have had experience with this outstanding veterinary care at both lifetime extremes: Dr Porter helped to keep my two kittens alive when they were still tiny, helpless orphans; and Dr. Dundes gently cared for my dog when a brain tumor made his life too difficult to bear. In between those extremes have been many instances of excellent care-- with thoughtful consultations and medical explanations, follow-up phone calls, and friendly cooperation from everyone on the staff.

Rhinebeck Animal Hospital is wonderful. I have been using them for my pets needs for years. Every experience has been positive from the friendly staff to the knowledgeable doctors. I have had the doctors email and call me after hours when I have had questions regarding my cats care. My last visit was difficult as I said goodbye to my cat of 10 years. The staff made sure every detail was taken care of so I was able to say goodbye without the hassle of paperwork, paying a bill, etc. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a vet that takes pride in their service to ensure the best possible care for your animals.
