VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital is an animal care facility located in Elk Grove, California. It offers a range of veterinary services and operates 24/7. The hospital has a rating of 3.8, which suggests a mixed bag of experiences for its clientele.
Some customers have reported a lack of empathy from the staff, particularly during emotionally charged situations like euthanasia. One account describes the staff as "unprofessional" and "giddy," showing no understanding or support during a difficult time.
Another recurring theme in the reviews is the high cost of services. Customers have spent significant amounts on tests like X-rays and blood work, often without a clear diagnosis. One customer mentioned spending over $1,600 across multiple visits without receiving a conclusive diagnosis for their pet's condition.
On the flip side, some reviews praise the staff for their compassion and understanding. One customer, who lost their pet, appreciated the comforting and hospitable nature of the staff, describing the receptionist as an "angel."
Customers have also noted the hospital's ability to react quickly in emergency situations. One review highlighted how their pet was taken into surgery within 20 minutes of arrival, attributing the quick action to saving their pet's life.
Some customers feel that the hospital is more focused on money than on animal care. One review mentioned that the vet prescribed medication without a clear diagnosis, leading the customer to believe that the focus was more on generating revenue than on treating the pet effectively.
However, another review stated that when compared to other clinics, VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital's prices are not significantly higher. This suggests that the perception of high costs may be relative and dependent on individual experiences.
The reviews for VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital present a complex picture. While some customers appreciate the quick and compassionate service, others have raised concerns about high costs and a lack of empathy. These mixed reviews suggest that your experience may vary, and it may be beneficial to consult multiple sources before making a decision about your pet's healthcare.

My sister was visitibg from out oftown on vacation and while here her 14 year old dog had a seizure. The dog was taken to a nearby veterinarian that checked her out for possible poisoning and other things. All tests came back negative. Two days later, the dog had another seizure, wetting herself, unable to walk after, seemingly blinded and having labored breathing. This was in the middle of the night. My sister and brother-in-law were very upset and realized she had had a possible stroke. They watched her and babied her for several hours but things just worsened. They made the pain staking decision to take her in and have her euthanized because she was not in good condition. Upon arriving at Bradshaw, both the clerk and the technician in the front were unprofessional and somewhat giddy to my sisters feelings and horrified story of having to put her companion of 14 years down so unexpectedly. They showed no empathy or understanding. My sister was told that the doctor on duty would examine her dog first. While waiting the girls continued to snicker at my sisters position. The doctor, after waiting some time, came in and asked a few questions. Her response, without any examination, was cold and casual. She merely stated,"Well, I guess its her time.". "If youd like to stay with her its another forty dollars.". They swiftly took the dog from my sisters arms and walked out. The entire situation was handled poorly and unsympathetically. My sister received no knowledge, no support and definitely no friendliness. Just a bill for services and a broken heart. Also wondering if her dogs last moments were handled with care and comfort and even taken care if humanily. I have since looked up other emergency vets in the area just in case I should need a doctor after hours. I can honestly say I will try to avoid Bradshaw Emergency Vet in Elk Grove, Ca

We would never put a price tag on our dog, who is a five year old shih Tzu. He has been having health problems for the last 6 months, poor guy. We found him hiding in his kennel throwing up blood, constantly coughing, sneezing, and he has had a rash for the past two months. In the last 6 months we have been to Bradshaw veterinary clinic 4 times. We have taken him here because they have a lot of good reviews. The first time we took him in we spent $250 on x-rays, because they were unsure of why he was throwing up blood. When they did the x-rays we were relieved that we were going to figure out why our son was in so much pain. x-rays were inconclusive and did not help us figure anything out. 2nd time we went back in, they re did x-rays, hospitalized him, blood work, and we still walked out with our little guy in the dark. They had no diagnoses or the slightest clue what was wrong. But still sent us home with medication, for what???? 2nd trip $560. His final trip cosseted us $875 for the same thing throwing up blood, skin irritation, not eating, and behavioral changes. Still no diagnosis, no explanation, sent us out the door with yet the same medication. So, finally after taking care of a sick dog for who knows how many days. I got on the internet and goggled all of his symptoms. Come to find out shih Tzu have a really high chance of having bad allergies. All of his symptoms match the website word for word. I was so relieved to find out his misery could be fixed with 2 pills a day and a slight change in his diet. I’m not bad mouthing this vet, they are very nice, great customer service, but very expensive. It almost seems like they are very money hungry and don’t really care about your pets health!

We are from Manteca, Ca. and the closest 24 hour vet hospital was in Stockton, Ca. whos Dr. was already busy in surgery and they said the only thing they can do for our Olde English Bulldog was to put her on an IV but if she needed immediate attention otherwise then we would need to take her to Elk Grove (45 minutes away) or (Sacramento, 60+ minutes) going to Elk Grove SO far when you are in an emergency and in a life or death situation but we needed help ASAP and didnt want to chance not having a Dr. available if need be. So we rushed as fast as we can at 4am from Manteca to Elk Grove and by the time we got to this hospital our sweet Maggie had passed away. The staff was VERY comforting and hospitable and explained what may have caused her death. Its unfortunate we dont have anything closer to our city for immediate care. Lindsey (receptionist) was an angel. She was compassionate, understanding, hospitable and loving. Losing a pet is such a shock and she held our hand through every phase that evening. I appreciate your staff for what they do. I cant thank you enough. We struggle with the loss of Maggie every day. Its awful. So we thank you for your compassion the most. We learned that Maggie had stomach twist that requires immediate attention and is the 2nd most common killer to cancer. Please learn about this so you can reduce the risks in your pets!!! Thank you again, VCA Animal Hospital!

We took our dog in to Bradshaw because he seemed to have lost some weight. We were right he had lost about 10lbs. The Vet said that Cancer could very well be to blame, so lets take some blood and see what we come up with. The blood work came back fine but the Vet said that is no sure answer and that there are other tests that can be run. I said that costs a lot, she said that your dog might only live a month or two if we do not catch it now, where as if we catch it early he could have over 6 months with the right meds. I said lets see if we just feed him more and see if that works, she said whatever, and made out a prescription. We came back a few months later because he hurt his leg trying to catch a frisbie. Saw the same Vet. She said that the dog looked good and that he got all his weight back plus another 2lbs. and that the prescription that she prescribed us must have worked. I said that I never picked it up I just fed him more. Good thing that I did not shell out all that money and put my dog through that. They seem to be all about money since they are under new ownership. They do not seem to to care about the animals or my finances.

When I brought my very sick Great Dane to Bradshaw with a suspicion that she was suffering from bloat (gastric torsion) the tech helped me get her into the building and then took her immediately for an xray. Just a few minutes later the vet showed me the xray and explained what needed to be done and what the risks were.My dog was in surgery within 20 minutes of my arrival. The clinic kept in good touch with me immediately after surgery and for the following day, until she came home. This is the highlight of many years of superb care given my pets at Bradshaw. In the past I had taken my animals to another clinic where I experienced misdiagnoses and outrageous cost. This has never been my experience at Bradshaw. The care here is always expert and compassionate and when I compare the prices to other clinics, I dont think Bradshaw is any more expensive than many other places. After reading so many negative reviews, I needed to put in my two cents worth. Perhaps people who have positive experiences arent the ones who take the time to write. I know it was Bradshaws ability to react quickly and efficiently in an emergency that saved my Danes life.
