My wife and I woke up on the first morning of our New Year holiday visiting my wifes father in Japan, with a text message from our friend who was caring for our dog - the third member of our family was in critical condition at a veterinary clinic in Roseville, CA. He had been in perfect health when she picked him up from us two days earlier. Fortunately, he was at MarQueen Pet Emergency & Specialty Clinic, which is staffed by a large team of veterinary internal medicine specialists. Even though tests hadnt come back yet, by that morning Marqueen had assessed his condition and determined that he probably had a virulent and deadly infection of a bacterium called leptospirosis. Its also zoonotic, so it can infect humans, requiring MarQueen to observe a full isolation protocol on my dog - masks, gloves, gowns, etc. Despite the fact that our friend was taking great care of our dog, as she has for over 10 years with all our dogs, he was unfortunately taking prednisone for irritable bowel syndrome, and his immune systems strength was diminished. Coincidentally, the heavy rains in California in December 2016 had caused leptospirosis bacteria to be flushed up out of the soil on her ranch, and the spirochete had entered his body through the skin of his paws and were attacking his major organs. Our dear friend Parry would die within a matter of days if the raging infection couldnt be stopped, and we could do nothing except hope that this clinic we had never heard of was capable of miracles. Fortunately, MarQueen is, not only of medical expertise, but of kindness and caring and love. We began a long and nerve racking process of daily phone updates with the specialist technicians (Emily and Jessica - thank you!) doctors (Dr. Byerly. Dr. Lam, Dr. MacKinnon, Dr. Queen, Dr. Ulhaq, Dr. Williams) and management (Rick) at MarQueen, frequently twice per day even though we were 9 time zones away. They kept us informed, and they were always candid but caring toward both us and our dog Parry. When I returned to California, Dr. Queen continued calling me daily to update me. But after a few days Parrys recovery stalled. We had to face the truth that he would need to be put to sleep. My mother and father were both expected to pass away this year and I didnt know how I could also bear to lose my best buddy too. Dr. Queen called me on my Mobile phone the night before we were scheduled to put Parry to sleep. I broke down crying, and she spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me. She was kindness and caring personified. She offered to call me in the morning before they put Parry to sleep. And then, during the night, the staff at MarQueen made a last ditch effort monitoring him and tuning his infusions all night. The next morning Dr. Queen ordered another round of tests, and Parry had turned the corner. Dr. Queen called me with the good news. I drove up two days later and when I saw him he looked like a POW survivor - had lost 20% of his body weight and could barely walk. But the nurses carried him lovingly in their arms (despite his remaining weight of 45 pounds) and left him to sleep on the bed I had brought with me, and MarQueen gave me a dedicated room I where I could sit with him all day Sat. and Sun. We took him home a week later. Within a day, he ate something outside and started vomiting again. We thought it was a relapse, and took him to an emergency clinic in Palo Alto. The attending physician was a Fulbright Scholar, and he counseled that we should put Parry back on the heavy antibiotic that he had just finished, but Dr. Queen was calling us each day to check on his condition and she suggested that we wait a day or two. The Fulbright Scholar told me that Dr. Queen had more advanced degrees than he did, and he would follow her advice - and she was right again! Parry has now made a full recovery. Ironically, all symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome were gone when we got Parry home. Thank you to our friends at MarQueen!

WOW!!! And not in a good way. Took in my 10 yr old dog who was having difficulty breathing. Ran full lab, X ray and paid for the specialist (cardiologist) and cardiogram. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and they prescribed meds as treatment is very limited in advanced stages. Fast forward 1 month later...Refill of Lasix medication, which prevents the build up of fluid in the lungs, and is the only thing keeping my dog alive was denied because I could not bring him in for a check up 1 month after the original visit. They wanted to run more tests and I told them I did not have the money at the moment. They said we are sorry but we cannot refill the lasix prescription. To which I replied, "you do realize without the medication my dog will die." And I quote "Im sorry sir, the doctor who made the diagnosis no longer works here and the other doctors will not write a prescription without seeing your dog." WHAT? So you just sit back and let my dog die because the doctor I originally saw works somewhere else? How is this my problem? Where is the responsibility of your organization? "I understand sir, but Im just the receptionist and I have to follow the rules." MIND BLOWN!!! No morals, no ethics!! Argued, pleaded and begged and the answer was a hard NO for my dogs life saving medication. I requested all med records and there were 3 different doctors who saw my dog. They had full blood lab, x rays and cardiogram along with diagnosis and treatment. Any doctor in that building could have looked at the med records and written a prescription. They simply could not be bothered. Super sad that people and companies like this exist. In the process of dealing with Veterinary Board. There are plenty of great vets in the area, take your business somewhere else.

Dr. Queen and the entire staff went above and beyond for my family and especially our lab, Kingston as he went in for TPLO (tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy) surgery yesterday. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff and couldnt be happier with the overall experience during this very stressful time. Dr. Peter Walsh performed the surgery and before hand he took the time to meet with us and throughly explain the entire process of surgery as well as what we could expect for recovery time and care. He answered all of our questions and I felt like he truly cared. After the surgery Dr. Walsh called us personally to let us know how the anesthesia and surgery went, which was very comforting. When he arrived to pick up our sweet Kingston, the staff was so informative and sent us home with two different packets of information for surgery aftercare as well as the directions for the medications. I cant stress enough how genuinely kind and helpful each staff member we met was and how comforting it was that everyone really cared about taking care of our dog. The facility overall is gorgeous. It is in a great location and very easy to find (this was very important since we had to drive up from the Monterey area). It is by far the cleanest pet clinic I have ever been to. I am so thankful for Dr. Queens attentive care, Dr. Walshs orthopedic experience, and everyone elses kind and helpful demeanor. I would highly recommend MarQueen Animal Clinic and Pet Specialty to anyone who wants suburb care for their fur family. We cant thank you all enough for all of your help, genuine kindness and extensive knowledge.
