I went to have my cat euthanized die to a lifelong sickness/disease that was incurable, and she suffered so much. Missing patches of fur on her head and face, bloody scratches on her face, neck and head. She had long term treatment, but none of it worked. I took her to the shelter to have her euthanized for $20 but they refused to do it, so I took her to a veterinarian clinic where I paid $125 to have it done. Now the San Jose Shelter on Monterey road put me on their "Do not allow to adopt" from their shelter list. So now I cant adopt from their shelter all because the manager disagreed with my decision to put my cat to rest. she expected me to do life long treatment for my cat. Going in 3x a week, getting ears cleaned, shot in the head, every time , having temporary relief was not enjoyable for my cat. She was suffering still, and nothing helped. They even did a skin scraping and couldnt find out what exactly was wrong with her. She suffered for two years before I made the final decision to put her to rest and not let her suffer any further. Yea so this shelter staff here are pretty nice in general. The manager who dealt with me personally took my personal decision to put my cat down, personally and now she wont take me off the list of do not allow to adopt from us ever. for as long as I live I can never adopt a homeless animal from them. The thing is my cat was rescued by me, and I had assistance from a cat rescue in the beginning when she was first rescued. She would have been 3 years old today. Its just devastating to know how this manager runs this shelter. She is ignorant, and ridiculous in her decision making with everything. She takes everything personally. literally she thinks I am a horrible pet owner and I shouldnt own any pets. This lady should be fired from her job. To make such a decision just because she disagreed with my decision as a parent/pet owner to put my cat to rest and end her suffering. -------------- 1 yr ago my dog ended up at the shelter. I went to go pick up my dog immediatley. The lady at the front desk wanted to charge me reclaiming fees, but my dog was put in the front kennels up for adoption. The issue is that she had been there for 5 days only, and did not even put her in quarantine to allow up to the allowed 30 days for owner to come reclaim their pet. They spayed her with out notifying me which was dreadful. I did not want that to happen. None the less, I was glad she was okay. Of course I still went to go get her. The lady at the front desk wanted to charge me reclaiming fees and such. I said "My dog is in the front kennel up for adoption. You didnt even allow for me to reclaim her. Your having the sale -dog adoptions for $20 right now. " Her boss which was a different manager at that time forced this lady to run this as an adoption to me so I didnt have to pay unnecessary reclaiming fees. Yet even after her boss told her what to do, she began arguing because she wanted to charge me $400 in reclaim fees. Her boss got a angry and just said "Just do what I told you to do!" and reluctantly she did end up processing the paper work as a regular $20 adoption fee. The front desk lady just wanted to make a profit and not do that right thing for my sake and my dogs sake. My dog had such aggression issues with other dogs at that time. She attacked other dogs. Yet they put my dog in the front adoption kennel up for adoption without even allowing the 30 maximum time by law given for owners to come reclaim their pet(s). This is what upsets me the most out of everything. By law they are suppose to give 30 days for owner to come reclaim their dog or cat. This is what they did to me and my dog. What if my dog had been adopted to someone? There would have been nothing I could do about it. I might have sued the shelter because I have all her paper work from her veterinarian since day one when I rescued her at 3 months old. JUST THANK GOD I GOT MY GIRL BACK. I DNO WHAT THE F I WOULD HAVE DONE WITH OUT HER IN MY LIFE. This shelter is the worst in San Jose.

Friday, August 26th I learned this shelter was going to co-host an event with the Ringling Brothers Circus. Out of support for assisting in the Ringling brothers new behavior, I decided to attend. As is, my own cat has gone walkabout in the woods behind UCSC, and even though far away, it might be worth a shot to check the cages for my lost cat. The gal at the counter was despondent and I really had to be firm to get any information on how we could work together. Not forthcoming. Finally I learned there was something called a lost cat tour. I waited around for that. The gal taking me on the tour was kind and certainly helpful. However, there was violation after violation. She kept apologizing. You see the staff that normally would have done the cleaning had been reallocated to chaperone the fund raising event. There were feces everywhere and no litter boxes for the cats and kittens. The ammonia smell from the cat urine was so strong I could barely stand being in there for even a few seconds, let alone the time the cats and kittens were. There were small windows in some of the rooms but they remained closed. I did say something about this but the girl gave a bizarre response as though someone were gagging her mouth shut. Imagine the money that must have been raised for the admin of both of those organizations while the actual caretakers and the lovely though offended creatures had less than ample access to clean water, food and hygiene. Having visited many other much better shelters, I will certainly be writing a series of regulatory and Watchdog organizations to assist in the welfare practices at this shelter.

This place is dirty, charges ridiculous fees & has little or nothing to show for it. The front was littered with garbage bags, bins & newspapers. Once inside, they took us through the surrender area, which was a mishmash of items. Very disorganized, & run down. Cages are clearly old & rusty, and God only knows how well the animals are really treated here. We heard one of the volunteers that walked in telling a barking dog, "shut up dog!" then turn to say to us, "oh, I didnt know someone was here". This is just for starters. We get in to speak to the rep about our lost dog that was found, & are greeted by a cold calculating, Trinh, who proceeds to lie about their efforts to contact us. Their letter, dated one day after they got the animal was not postmarked for another 5 days. They also have all our contact info from our dogs collar tag & registration(with their organization), which they never did use to call us, until they dropped a letter in the mail 6 days later. Wow, what incompetence! In the end they got our dog and our money, because theyre more interested in getting their exhorbitant fees than in doing whats best for the animal and the community they "serve". Instead, they prey on the misfortune of owners whose clueless, innocent animals run off for whatever reason, and the people who also pay their fees to adopt them. This is what our hard earned tax dollars do for us?
