Let me start this by saying I am both a patient and a RN at this hospital. People had been telling me that I need to read the reviews about the hospital and I decided to take a little gander... Extremely disheartening. It saddens me to see some of these reviews, for many reason from me understanding what people are saying and the truth behind it to some being of pure ignorance and complaining about stuff that doesnt even matter in a hospital setting. This isnt going to be a rant, I promise. I just saw that nursing administration responds and apparently read these things for their PR Image. When I was a patient the few times here I had relatively decent experiences considering Ive been admitted to many hospitals. Like reviews in the past have said, the staff is very hit or miss on the floor. My day nurse was amazing, my night nurse only came in to administer antibiotics, the assessments consisted of asking me at the start of her shift and she was gone for the night, but I do get it, I was probably her most stable patient and a ratio of 6:1 is standard, but at least I got relatively uninterrupted sleep. This is the reason I am giving it three stars. The day shift nurse so phenomenal. I think her name was Christy or Christina on 10N. Request this one!! :-D However, this part of the review is to kind of explain what we go thru on the other side of the spectrum. Hospitals have become a costumer/consumer industry with ratings and competition where we can pick and choose where we get our care. Ive been here for 3 years and I have seen the changes happen from good/decent to poor and below average. Ill tell you why I, personally, believe that is. Aventura Hospital, I believe, has 404 beds in it. When I started 3 years ago we saw approximately 35-40 thousand patients. Last year we saw over 75 thousand. Big change for the same amount of beds and staffing. I cant even honestly say the same staffing, less now than before. The hospital is always packed now, always. Always at capacity and we are always holding admitted patients in the ED rooms while the new "emergency" patients wait in the waiting room. Unfortunately its the only way to do it right now without magically popping out a new tower and more staff for said tower. The most of the staff currently employed here, I cant speak for everyone, but they are competent and intelligent and have an idea of what a sick person looks like vs a stable, non-urgent person. Heres where we run into a problem, overworked and unappreciated. Because this is for profit they just push push and push and if you dont perform you can be replaced. Lets think of a hospital as a restaurant, bare with me for a minute, if you waiter hates their job because they are constantly overworked and making poor tips because hes so overworked he cant keep up with all his tasks? The costumer satisfaction and outlook on that restaurant drops too. Same goes at this hospital, all the extremely good employees that were here have been pushed out because of being overworked and afraid of making a mistake that might cost a life. Where as all the travelers come in and do their contract and leave and the new employees dont survive very long either. Therefore, it reflects in the nurses attitudes and the way they treat people. Better employee satisfaction will lead to improved patient satisfaction. Take care of your employees so they can safely take care of your patients and improve you rating on Google. Build a new tower or come up with a better way to deal with influx. Try to improve retention rates. Maybe even listen to the employees opinions for a minute? I have been trying to get ahold of Ellen Fisher, HR supervisor, for MONTHS. I was told the only way to get her is when she comes in HR in the morning. So Aventura, your bond to loose a lot more good nurses and watch your rating plummet even more. It use to be a good Hosptial to me, but Im getting too exhausted and feel under appreciated for even staying here thru all of this madness.

Back in January of 2014 I was hospitalized due to severe abdominal pain. Doctors could not find out what the problem was & I had to stay in the hospital. I was in the room with another lady who yelled all night long, ate like an elephant and vomited several times. She used to get up in the middle of the night and take a 2 hour shower. I asked to be moved several times without success. I was sent home and 3 days later back in the hospital. This time I had a gallbladder surgery who took longer than expected. Drs. Jhor and Altshumer were amazing. I was in a private room where I was treated with decency. Three days later I was back in the hospital with the same pain. They hospitalized me on the 10th floor. WHAT A DISASTER. The nurse in charge never came despite my 100 calls. My Blood pressure was at one point 65 over 35 and I could not get up to go to the bathroom. I called and called and called. I was crying in pain and they showed up 1 hour later. The food (a piece of fish) was cold and RAW. It seemed that it had been prepared the day before. Vegetables were dry and disgusting. Rice was cold. I was supposed to go for an endoscopy but they had me without food until 5:15 pm just to advise me that it had to be done the following day because Dr. Solomon Lerer had other cases that were "emergencies". In the meantime I was dying with a migrane, pain in my liver, vomiting water and crying. Finally, the following day, although they had me without food again until 4:00 pm, Dr. Lerer performed the endoscopy. I woke up in my room with my mouth all peeled, my lips peeled, no skin and with blood around my mouth... I looked like a monster. Worst than anything is that when I touched myself I had no underwear and was all weat. I had peed in the bed. Although I had done 19 endoscopies in 30 years, this was the first time it had happened and nobody gave me a decent explanation. Where was my underwear. Im still waiting for an answer. In the meantime, the medical bill reached over 200K and I had a 40K copayment. I wrote a letter to Ms. Dianne Goldenberg (certified, express and with RRR) and am waiting for an answer until today. I have been hospitalized several times in different hospitals and different states in America, but, Aventura Hospital is without a doubt, the worst hospital you could ever find. Please be careful and dont be stupid like I was. Stand up for your rights. Until today I still have nightmares about my bad experience with the gastroenterologist. Only GOD knows what happened in that room. I was under anesthesia... I have no idea!

The last day of my week stay they finally got my blood pressure low, do suffer from very high blood pressure went to have a stress test on the 3rd. floor there was a new maid that day who looked me right in the face because my normal maid whom I talked to daily except for the first day told me she would be off tomorrow when she came in on a Sunday & I remarked about my goodness your here on a Sunday she chuckled & said Im off on Monday so omy to get the test she looked me in the face. The food was nasty had a great turkey sandwich, & Loved Loved the ice. And a couple times had a awesome salad. Cereals were stale and coffee mugs smelt like cockroaches My Pakistan Dr. Pronounced Shake was sweet & sexy Best of all I had a Beautiful view of our Beautiful Beach on my 10th. floor suit where they accommodated Family with pillows & blankets. If the food wouldve always been good & wasnt aloud to leave the floor or would be sent home couldve stayed lol.
