Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with a life-threatening tumor on the inside of my spinal cord. With no other options, I underwent an extremely complex 8-hour surgery to remove portions of my vertebrae, cut open my spinal cord and remove the mass. I then required a second surgery to fuse 5 vertebrae in an effort to correct instability in my spine as a result of the first surgery. Even with intense physical and occupational therapy, I continued to experience severe chronic pain, loss of strength and loss of sensation. I tried nearly every alternative therapy I could find in an effort to find relief; however, I specifically avoided chiropractic care due to my fear of manipulating the spine in light of my fusion. When I exhausted all other therapies, I had nothing to lose and decided to investigate chiropractic treatment with Dr. Van Ness. After a thorough exam, Dr. Van Ness created a treatment plan specific to my condition and we began our work together. After 3 months, my chronic pain became manageable with little to no pharmaceutical intervention, I started gaining strength in my left arm and sensation throughout my body. Prior to these surgeries, I was an avid runner and competed in several marathons/triathlons. I was not sure I would be physically able to participate in these types of activities again. I am now able to endure difficult exercise programs and I am running again. A great big thank you to Dr. Van Ness and his team. I will forever be grateful.

Playing football has been a very important part of my life. Also, I have always trained rigorously in an effort to be able to excel on the playing field. As a 3 year starter at running back for Barrington High School varsity football team, and a 3 year starter at middle linebacker for the University of Toledo Rockets football team, I have sustained my share of "dings". One of the most important ways I have been able to consistently recover from these strains, bruises, muscle pulls, and joint stiffness has been through my many visits to Dr. Van Nesss Chiropractic and Rehabilitation Clinic in Barrington. I recently was tested by the National Football League for the upcoming 2016 NFL draft. Under Dr. Van Nesss guidance, I received multiple weekly treatments for several months from Dr. Van Ness and his staff. These treatments included chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, massage, and supervised flexibility exercises. The benefits of these treatments were directly reflected in my performance for my NFL Pro-day. My body weight increased 8 pounds to 231. My flexibility during the position drills had been greatly improved, and my strength increased as a result of all the various treatments I had been receiving at the Van Ness Clinic. I was able to tie this years record for the bench press test for all the candidates who were tested nationally - 225 pound bench press for 34 repetitions! Thanks Dr. Van Ness, to you and your staff! My seventeen year old daughter suffers with a complex autonomic nervous system disorder called "POTS" - Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. Symptoms include chronic daily headaches which were so severe that she was unable to function/attend school In addition, she has Joint Hypermobility Disorder and suffers with extreme back pain. We began to see Dr. VanNess when Katie was 14, and in a very acute state. He stabilitzed her autonomic nervous system so she was able to function at a basic level. Last Fall, our neurologist encouraged us to return to Dr. VanNess to assist with mitigating her chronic headaches. Through a combination of Botox treatment from the Neurologist, and 2Xs a week visits to Dr. VanNess, Katie has become remarkably better.. Last year, she was homebound and unable to attend school Since working with the neurolgist and Dr. VanNess, she is now able to attend school 4 out of 5 days per week. When she begins to suffer with pain in her neck and/or her back, she asks to see Dr. VanNess and she has immediate pain relief. We used another Chiropractor for approximately 4 months a couple of years ago, and had no success. There is no doubt that the chiropractic treatment by Dr. VanNess is exceptional

We have been to many chiropractic offices, and the doctors and treatment at Van Ness provides the most comprehensive and effective treatment we have received . In addition to the manipulations and the other treatments, staff tries to educate you on how to achieve and maintain better health through video tutorials and many educational brochures as well as one on one instruction with the doctors. We purchased a Groupon that introduced us to this chiropractic office and because of the flexible payment plans and the great care we have received, we will be continuing. My teenage son has had problems with posture and backaches as he is very active in soccer and lacrosse, and I feel he is well on his way to full healing with continued treatments. We also discovered that one of his legs was shorter than the other which was causing some of the posture problems and pain, so we are getting a custom-made shoe insert that will straighten that out. I would highly recommend the doctors here and Im very thankful we have discovered their care. My son is feeling better after a few treatments and looks forward to every visit.

Dr. VanNess has been my chiropractor for almost 15 years. After having lower back surgery due to a ruptured disk when I was 29 years old, I have since suffered from back and neck pain due to instability and degenerative disks. My most recent "bout" brought me back in early December. At that time I could hardly function. I had left side pain from my forehead down to my legs, including shoulders, hips and everything in between. I committed to going for treatment 3x a week for three weeks. Dr. VanNess told me he would have me feeling like a "new" person by the end of December. Well, he was right! After three weeks, I felt so much better and now have many more good days than bad. I am continuing with 3 adjustments a week, plus the therapeutic exercises every day to help me move beyond an acute stage of care. Dr. Parkin and the rest of the staff at VanNess Chiropractic are wonderful. Theyve helped me with my PT exercises, understanding my insurance coverage and have setup a plan to help me manage payments. I am grateful to each and every one of them!
