I sought treatment at the Capital Sports Injury Center because I was suffering from knee pain and shoulder pain. I was interested in the physical therapy mentioned on the website, however, Dr. Carson Aune also happened to be a chiropractor. At my visit on May 4th 2012 he thought manipulations would help loosen up my hips and shoulder area so both shoulder and leg would be more receptive to the other soft tissue work/stretches/workouts I would do. I had never undergone a manipulation before and was never even X-Rayed. I was nervous about him performing so many manipulations at once and said so, yet after awhile he convinced me to do a small manipulation of my mid-back (thoracic vertebrae) so I could get a feel for what it was like and would be more comfortable and continue treatment. He laid me on my back with one leg up and arms crossed, and lifted me by my back until I heard the signature crackle and felt a hot fluid sensation run up and down my spine. He made it seem safe and I felt that I could trust him. My back felt funny the rest of the day and I was extremely tired and sluggish but didnt think anything of it. It didnt hit me until the next day (Saturday May 5th) while working that something was wrong. I was feeling excruciating pain radiating up and down my spine and into my legs. I was able to see my GP on May 6th who then prescribed me a series of NSAIDs and muscle relaxants for pain. Its been two weeks since the manipulation and while the pain has subsided, my back is still in terrible condition. This pain has consisted of shooting pains up and down my back and legs, the inability to sit, lie down, or sleep, and chronic pain, acheyness, weakness, and fatigue in general. It has prevented me from working and, most troubling of all, has jeopardized my ability to perform and complete future career requirements. Also troubling to me is the fact that I initially sought treatment for conditions in my shoulder and knee - nowhere near my back. I am frustrated in that both Drs Carson Aune and Steven Horwitz have not attempted to reach me after being notified of my injuries. Nor have they bothered to reply to my attempts of contacting them. I believe Dr. Carson to be negligent in: not X-Raying me before manipulating me, not warning me of the dangers of manipulation, manipulating my spine when I was seeking treatment for conditions in my extremities, and not properly following up with me and addressing his patients suffering. Your mileage may vary, however, I highly recommend that you stay away from this place and chiropractors in general UNLESS your GP refers you to one SPECIFICALLY. There are better physical therapists to be found in the capital metro area anyway. Additionally - do not ever undergo a manipulation if you are not comfortable with it no matter what they say contrary to change your mind.

This is so unsolicited but I felt compelled to write this testimonial. I was skeptical on my first visit to see Dr. Smith because I was feeling like there was no help for me since after 5 months of massage/water/land therapy, I was still hurting a lot. I was resigned to the fact that I might have to live like this going forward. We discussed my herniated disc operation, the pain in my lower back, hip, leg, foot and my physical therapy regimen. She wondered out loud why I went all the way to Beverly Hills, CA. for the operation and had the gall to ask me "what did they do?".(it was a good question but I will say that Dr. David Ditsworth did his job. You cant even tell I had an operation and he said it would take 5-6 months rehabilitation) Anyway, Dr. Smith listened intently and told me to get a x-ray before she would take me as a patient. We went over the x-ray and she put up a x-ray of a perfect body and a x-ray of my battered 68 year old body. (Im a jock...or at least I thought I was) I was stunned at the difference in the x-rays. She said, " Mr. Frazier, I can fix this, that and this (back, leg, foot). This is degenerative (right hip) but I can slow that down and get you out of your pain". She then said "you gave them 5 months...give me 5 weeks". Here it is a little over 5 weeks and I got rid of my handicapped sticker and my cane. Im walking without pain for significant distances and strengthening my core while working with Sedric Otuya and her faithful receptionist, Liz. Theyre good people. I said all that to say "thank you Dr. Smith". You were true to your word. I thank my good friend Robert Koontz (he holds the world record in the 100 yard dash for 70 year olds) for recommending you. Im a believer! Keep up the outstanding work.

Very grateful to Dr. Smith for introducing me to ART/Graston and relieving my carpal-tunnel related issues. My progress had stagnated under the care of an occupational therapist, and though I was glad to learn about how to change my environment, I was getting frustrated about my pain. Dr. Smith listened thoughtfully to my issues, explained how she was going to approach my treatment, and had my symptoms under control within 5 sessions. Liz and Susie at the front desk are wonderful as well and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this office to anybody.

I spend 8-10 hrs walking and running everyday training my horses for the Olympics and other international championships having a flat foot I suffered unbearable pain in my ankles, calf stiffness, back pain and foot pain including plantar fasciitis. After trying orthotics from all over the world I found the best solution with Ram orthotics. In just one week all my pains have disappeared and my training has improved as I can now train harder longer pain free.

In return for my investment of time, money, hope and trust, Dr. Horwitz aggravated my symptoms.
