My primary veterinarian referred my beloved fur baby to BluePearl due to horrid gingivitis and possible mouth cancer. We schedule our initial visit and surgery to be the same day. During our consultation I immediately felt the deep love and passion this staff has for pets. Both the technician and the Dr. were patient with my cat and very loving. I never felt that they were rushing through the exam or missing anything important. Dr. Donnell was super informative about the types of mouth disease my cat could have. She pulled out her white board and marker and taught me about each one. She talked about the seriousness of possible cancer, but reassured me that Pekoe was in good hands. Her staff pulled estimates for the procedure and held off on certain ones until they felt it was absolutely necessary. I appreciated their honesty and efforts to keep the cost as low as possible. When I left, although very anxious about my baby, I felt completely comforted that Pekoe was with people who loved him as much as I did. The staff unfortunately (but thankfully) noticed that Pekoe had a heart murmur, and after additional tests, diagnosed him with heart disease. This was caught due to the thorough investigating they did prior to putting him under anesthesia for his dental work. They felt confident to move forward with the procedure and called me every step of the way throughout the day. The communication with this company alone is what blew me away. They called me about 6 times throughout Pekoes time there. Each time was with new discoveries and/or updates on his vitals during surgery and after. I never once felt out of the loop or scared for my cats well-being. When I went to pick up Pekoe that same day, Dr. Donnell took the time to go through every single item she found and even showed me xrays of each tooth she removed. She explained his newly found heart disease and what that meant for our future and helped me understand the good, the bad, and the ugly. Being that BluePearl has so many specialists available, even with all the unexpected news, we were able to go through this entire journey all in the same day. Although finding out he now has heart disease was not what I came in here expecting, I am hopeful for the future knowing that they will be with us every step of the way. Thank you Dr. Donnell, to you and your staff!

I have a cat who was very sick. We took him to several different vets trying to figure out why he had been unable to keep his food down and was losing weight at an alarming rate and were eventually referred to the Blue Pearl. After bringing him there for a diagnosis we were told that the pathologist had taken a look at the results and that "he has stomach cancer". They charged $1000+ and offered to put him to sleep. This came at a complete shock and we were unable to part at that very moment. At home we were still trying everything we could think of that might help and it was about this time that we took him off dry food and switched to a diet solely of boiled chicken breast. His appetite was relentless, as it had been, but now some of the meals he was able to keep down. We fed as much as he could realistically consume and he ate it all. Something miraculous began to take place and after some time he began to gain weight again, and then his energy and complexion. Still under the impression that he was doing this in spite of having cancer we call and email the Blue Pearl to get a copy of the results and have them explain why this recovery had taken place. Those calls and emails were never returned and several months later and with a completely happy and healthy, young cat, I see no possible way that he has or ever had stomach cancer. He has transitioned from boiled chicken to Wellness brand chicken pet food to a combination of that and Wellness brand dry food. The ValueCare vet who had initially treated him was probably right in her pre-referral suspicion that is was an infection that had begun to cause some blockage. Thank god Lou was strong-willed enough to heal without any medication or he wouldnt have made it. All of this makes me wonder about the diagnosis we received a couple of years prior to this incident regarding our lab which we took to the Blue Pearl and who was put down... Im taking time to write this because it is important that patients who cannot speak for themselves are given the care they deserve and hopefully someone out there will be helped by this information.

Having never heard of Blue Pearl I wish I would have gone with my gut instinct and stuck with my second opinion appointment with the UofM, but my vet had me so scared about the aggressive nature of my dogs condition I went ahead with their referral to be seen the same week. The visit with Dr. Schmidt she seemed caring and provided a variety of options for treatment, none of which were outside of the box. Basically here are your options, take your pick and then sign off on the estimate. Since the time of my initial appointment I have had nothing but problems getting a call back from the doctor herself and issues with staff returning my calls. When I have gone back for prescription refills, everyone is very nice but even having called in the prior day have had issues with the refills being ready to pick up, its like mass confusion. What I have noticed is everyone who goes into Blue Pearl leaves with a goodie bag of pills. I could go on and on about my experience with the refill process, but... If you do decide or are already a referral customer, do your research on the pill costs, they are much more expensive, at least the ones my pet is on, than from my normal vet, whom they have told me they are not able to transfer the prescription to them. Come on Blue Pearl, you are a referral only vet that my vet referred me to. Leaves the lasting feeling of a greedy money hungry company. My dog is my family, as dear as a child. I would never recommend this Vet to anyone. Just a side note they are not into any alternative treatment options, i.e. holistic or otherwise, as some of their bios describe. Very frustrated with this "cut and dry" approach to the care of my pet.

The doctors here are incredible jokes. We brought our cat, who has been my friend and companion since I started dating my now-wife over 10 years ago. He had not eaten in 4 or 5 days so we brought him in for an emergency visit. After spending $650 dollars on x-rays and blood work they had no answer for us besides spending $450 dollars on an ultrasound to see if that turned up anything. Thanks assholes! The doctor would not provide any real answers and never stood behind what she proposed. She talked way more than listened and gave me very few chances to ask follow up questions. Look I get it. Sometimes animals get sick and there is no rhyme or reason that medical science can uncover, but have some empathy instead of just trying to get us to spend thousands of dollars. We had a cat with bladder cancer and our normal vet had referred us to this vet to see if it was treatable - it was not, but we opted to provide him with pain medication for the interim as he was not too bad yet. Of course in a few weeks we had to euthanize him as the pain became too great. I held him as he left for the Rainbow Bridge. When the tech came to remove him, they almost dropped him. I hadnt really worried too much about it at the time, because they had also provided me with a paw print for him, but they later called and accused us of not paying the asinine $250 dollar fee for the euthanasia. After we told them we paid they said theyd check to see if that was true. The never called back to apologize. This place is an expensive joke with poor service. If youve got no other choice then do what you have to, but if you can avoid this place please do.
